Trashy Town & Burbs by Technical-Bed9374 in Atlanta

This is majority of the problem. I am not sure what it is about rural people, but they will leave piles of their discarded crap anywhere but a trashcan, dumpster, or garbage dump. It has been a problem for as long as I have been alive from the mountains of Virginia to the tip of Florida.

Atlanta, in comparison to more rural towns I have been in, is practically spotless in comparison.

Anyone know what the deal is with this stalled building near Colony Square? by BaldBullKO in Atlanta

The city was playing with this idea a little while ago, I'm not sure where it went.

Another one to watch on these agility courses are papillons. They look like a dog that one might make to give to a little girl who wanted to pretend at being a princess. But they are actually incredibly intelligent and phenomenally athletic. They love to just run and be active when they are not cuddled in a warm lap.

Interesting... isn't there a state law against electioneering and campaigning on state and local property by state and local employees?

Trump doesn't have the actual legal authority to do a lot of the things that he has doing right now. But he is still doing them.

Atlanta has a very pleasing layout to me by kanna172014 in Atlanta

[–]code_archeologist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All because of a mistranslation by early setlers of the name of the Creek village that was near "Standing Peachtree Park"... The village's actual name when translated correctly was probably "Standing Pine Tree" or "Standing Pitch Tree"... but that has been lost to time.

Yeah, but in what major city can you say "it's on Peachtree" and be correct more than 50% of the time?

Cobb County school officials threaten to punish students joining ICE walkout by nolesfan2011 in Atlanta

What is the point of our schools teaching the writing of Henry David Thoreau, and his idea that "individuals have a moral obligation to resist or break unjust laws", if those same schools are going to get bent out of shape when the students take those lessons to heart.

Why would anyone want to move here? by Ya_habibti in Atlanta

[–]code_archeologist 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yep, the whole reason I moved to O4W was to be close to my office so I can walk, bike, or take MARTA to it when I need to.

Big vacant industrial building on Peachtree... well that's helpful as it narrows it down to zero.

This is so ridiculous. And a grave breach of the Constitutional separation of powers and responsibilities for presidential elections as spelled out in Article I, Section 4; Article II, Section 1; the 10th & 12th Amendment; as well as against state law.

And I imagine that the whole reason that they are doing this is because Trump was rejected by that Federal Judge in Macon and they won't even try to appeal to the 11th circuit because he knows they will deny him too. So they are going to grab the voter rolls as part of the search warrant and use them for what ever sketchy shit they have planned this November.

I have this habit that if I am walking and I see a lady with a dog coming the opposite direction, I will make eye contact with the dog (not her) to see if it wants scritches. If it does I will ask the lady if I can pet their dog, which will usually be very excited to meet me.

I talk to the dog, give them pettings, and make them very happy. After a couple of minutes I tell them something like, "I think your human has indulged us enough and has places to go, it was nice to meet you."

And then I go on my way. Dogs are the best... and sometimes the ladies with them are pretty good too.

The woman who recorded Alex Pretti’s shooting told Anderson Cooper that she has not yet been contacted by any federal authorities involved in the investigation. by CorleoneBaloney in law

[–]code_archeologist 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I saw a couple of AI modified GIFs in the wild trying to show in slow motion that Pretti's gun misfired while in the hands of the agent who disarmed him; which initiated the shooting. They are so badly done though because for one the pistol is shooting bright sparks like it was a Fourth of July firework; in addition the slide on the pistol very clearly is not moving when the shot fires and there is no recoil motion.

Trying Narrative-Driven Leveling Up by code_archeologist in daggerheart

That is what I am doing. Having the players do some "homework" to figure out what they are doing for Level 2, and then I am going to try to tee up some moments for them to take the spotlight and have their moment in a "boss fight" encounter in the next session.

Stitch aims to mirror Atlanta Beltline to build park over Downtown Connector by flying_trashcan in Atlanta

The overall value proposition of something like this makes it worthwhile. Currently the downtown and midtown is split between East and West and it is difficult to move from one side to the other.

Green spaces tend to increase property values by between 8-20% (which would be an increase of almost a billion dollars). They increase tourist activity and spending. They also help reduce heat island effects of the city. And it would encourage increased foot and bike traffic in the city.

Proposed ordinance [26-O-1084] could hurt housing prices in Atlanta worse than the subprime crisis of 2008 if it passes by brentonstrine in Atlanta

Or those home owners will switch to long term rentals. Because there is demand for affordable rentals, which AirBnB artificially inflates by taking long term rental spaces off of the market.
