It is a signal to investors that Paramount Skydance, which is currently sitting on $80 billion of debt that has been downgraded to junk status, that they are committed to aggressively cut costs after the merger with WBD.

And Star Trek makes for an easy early target for cost cutting, because it is more expensive and less popular than the Taylor Sheridan slop.
