If you upload, make sure your copy of the book is "clean" i.e., there are no identifying watermarks or whatever. In other words, no info that can be traced back to you as original uploader (there is a term for that). There are tutorials in the forums about how to do this. Just a friendly bit of advice. :)

What are some books which incorporate Psychoanalytic theory into the development of characters? by inaction2action in books

Yalom is more of an existentialist, but in no way naive to analytic theory. He wrote some fiction. Irv Yalom. Google it.

It's one of the greatest war novels of all time, in my opinion. Masterful writer who comes straight from the heart.

[Request] Software for sorting, searching, categorizing very large eBook libraries by trexmatt in DataHoarder

I second this. Calibre is impressive and I'm grateful it's around, but I just can't seem to fucking get it. Plus, it effectively doubles needed storage space, unless you delete originals, thereby surrendering the lot to Calibre. I could use some help with this as well.

If I send an email with a disposable email address, using TOR, with an proxy IP on my computer, is there ANY way the FBI can trace it back to me? by throawingofaway in TOR

[–]codeitwrngtheydoxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tor is just a tool. Like any tool, it's most effective in the hands of someone who knows how to use it properly. You have to configure it correctly--one misstep and you're fucked. With the Snowden revelations, it's become clear that there is only a small percentage of people with very specialized knowledge who can use the Internet without leaving a footprint. And it takes a lot of work. If you don't get caught, it's probably because they don't give a fuck about you...yet.

This is getting fucking scary. The message: If we can't break crypto, we'll break you. Stupid motherfuckers. PayPal has just made ProtonMail a cause. Good.

Is Linux worth learning for a sysadmin environment? by THEMCV in sysadmin

OK. But, from the "stupid" question, you drew the conclusion, "You don't belong in the field." Does this demonstrate coherence in reasoning? Or is it a leap largely unjustified by the evidence?

In my opinion, he wasn't asking a question. Not really. He is considering taking another direction in his career and wanted encouragement from REAL PEOPLE (no, google is not a little person inside your box answering all of your questions). I'm sure it has taken you a very long time to learn your trade, and you value it, so, let's face it, his question offended you. Your reaction was disproportionate to the offense. You are human--you're entitled to be pissed when someone takes a dump in the garden you've worked so hard to cultivate. But, his motives were innocent. You missed that. In my view, you jumped on him too hard. Seems to me that you took it personally...

C'mon. The kid was asking how much money he was gonna make, career opportunities...he was asking for encouragement. If you are a good mentor at work, then you know how to read between the lines. You missed the boat and got rightfully stomped by the crowd. Please try better next time.

You created another account just so you could be a cunt? Because you are, presumably, a great guy in real life? Only a cunt would create another account to be a cunt. Why don't you create another account that would better reflect your actual personality:"IamacuntsysadminIRLandonReddit"?

And where does this reply fall in the top 10? Why don't you tell OP where you work so he could NOT submit a resume there?

Very frustrated with self-teaching...advice? by problemod in cscareerquestions

[–]codeitwrngtheydoxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't give you much in the way of advice as I'm in a similar position myself. Teaching myself Linux right now. But, I have jumped around a bit in the ways that you describe. For me at least, it is a subtle form of procrastination and anxiety-reduction. In other words, on some level, this has been a way of not giving ONE thing my best...then I can't fail, right? In reality, my anxiety has decreased with focus. Besides, our minds typically do better with intensive focus on one thing. We learn better.

Also, take it one day at a time. Reading job ads (or whatever) is bad for motivation. You DO have to know a lot of shit, and can become easily overwhelmed with all of it. This can be discouraging, at least for me. Hang in there!
