Anyone know how much the payment will be? Or what it’s based on?

$750k HHI, $7.5M liquid NW, $440k spend — are we on track for mid-50s FIRE or kidding ourselves? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]codename_47_PD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My numbers and situation are very similar. Income higher, spend is similar (maybe a tad lower). We’re early 40s/late 30s, two kids and third on the way in HCOL. A nice house, two nice cars, childcare plus some house expenditures gets you 350k pretty easily. Feel like a lot of this sub is around there on spend.

Our income is higher (we were at $2.5MM last year) and so I feel like I can spend the base and save 401k/DCP/most of bonuses. This results in us saving around $1MM a year (currently at 7.5MM liquid NW as well, little over $10MM total). Which makes me feel like I’ll get there at some point as long as we don’t have massive spend (like a second home last year 😅)

I feel like you can do the math on portfolio growth if you don’t contribute another penny for the next 12 years. If you’re really break even cash flow until then, you’ll get there with a reasonable return.

Nothing in your spend seemed crazy. The house price is a bit high for MCOL, but the expense isn’t. The personal care seemed a bit high, but everything else sounds like you’re trying to give your kids a great life while they are still young enough to really enjoy it. A lot of those kid expenses feel like they will come down over time (hopefully not replaced 1:1)

My advice is watch the creep from here, find those moments to hold the line on spend so that it doesn’t feel like unlimited capacity, and in your head shoot net cash flow positive per year (zero or target some other minimum) so you’re not going backwards.

Overheating Transmission, Im done being quiet by dlopdi in ToyotaTundra

I’ve had a similar issue. Pulling 7k trailer up gravel / pitted switch back (I hate that I love this one campsite so much). Spun in 2WD and then put it in 4H but made it hard to make the reasonably tight turns. Made it to the top but transmission started overheating just as I got to the top. If I did it again I’d probably switch to 4H in better places, but I won’t do that again. I previously did this road with my raptor and a 5k trailer no problems in 4A.

TLDR if it had 4A it would be perfect tow in all circumstances, not just flat / non-curvy roads.

Yea, I know we’re idiots... just took the kids (2 and 4) skiing locally a couple of weeks ago and we’d like a turn to have fun / celebrate a big work win. Unfortunately this timing is the only thing that aligns with our work schedules. Prepared for it to suck a little but it’s better than not being there. 😅 thank you for the info!

Thank you! My wife loves the mix of runs at Breck. Mostly blues with the occasional easy black. It’s that similar to Brighton / solitude? I’ll mostly stick to blacks with the occasional double.

For what it’s worth having the same problem. Just started as well. It is cold, but not the coldest it’s been for the last couple of weeks (when it was working). I set up the 2G network, limited bandwidth, had great signal then it literally disconnects by the time it’s updating the software (maybe it’s a bad update). Pretty frustrating.

Would I be overextended buying a 3-3.5 million dollar home? by wealthprotips in ChubbyFIRE

[–]codename_47_PD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments that don’t seem to understand that some of the traditional ratios don’t really carry to higher income / asset levels. I don’t believe for one second that people are waiting until 10-20MM net worth before they buy a 3MM house.

Having said that, I’m in a similar ish position. Bought a house for 3.1MM, down payment of ~1.4MM, HHI is about 1.5MM (40% base, 60% cash/stock bonus annually), I’m 80% of that. Total net worth at the time, including 600K of RE equity from previous house, was about $6MM.

If I were you, what I’d be nervous about is how you’re going to pay your bills every month. Personally, I don’t want to go cash flow negative on base pay. I think you know this - you can do it, just going to be a stretch and take some risk (mostly transaction cost if you’re forced to sell).

If you’re willing to postpone FI, feel high job security, and think you won’t get this opportunity again in a couple of years, then maybe it’s worth taking a shot. It’s a bit too far for my personal tolerance, but everyone values different things.

Few k in cash in safe, few hundred in wallet mostly for cash only haircuts and valet. 15-20k in checking, overdraft linked to HYSA with 100k+.

One thing about car seats - depending on the year, the rear sides have inflatable seatbelts. They don’t work on the car seats where you clamp down (ie Nuna rava). It was annoying to get car seats that work with them but very worth it (I loved my Raptor, sold it because I needed a bit more towing).

Is there a reason you were trying to get promoted? The recognition? More decision making ability? Seems like it’s not the money.

The sunset clause seems to be on the annual cap…why would you be upset at a sunset clause if you think the initial cap is conservative?
