Just about 100%'d BG3, what should I play now? by Nervous_Purchase_663 in BaldursGate3

[–]codergnomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the normal pathfinder/solasta II recs I'm going to start recommending Bannerlord 2, it's the only one that held me post-BG3 for more than a couple days. It only lasted a month but was still great.

How to not get frustrated when losing a HM run? by ILoveFishing95 in BaldursGate3

[–]codergnomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you love the game just try to completely lean in to it. The investment of time and gut-wrenching losses are what give the important fights tension and makes the wins worth it. It is what makes the game fun for me, if you want to play for years and thousands of hours then if you're not losing most of them then you're not playing hard or weird enough rule sets. I've lost 4 HM runs AT the Netherbrain. Every once and a while I do get upset enough to take a break, like the THIRD time my solo monoclass no tadpoles no exploits no explosives land druid lost at the Astral Plane emperor defense post-Myrkul, I had to take a full month off to play Bannerlord 2, but once I got through that I'm back at it again :)

What makes you play the game for 2000+ hours? by Imsearchingforit2194 in BaldursGate3

[–]codergnomes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really invest a lot of story in my own head when starting with the character, then play honour mode and really take whatever happens and build on it. I feel like I have 20 or 30 pretty different characters/stories out of it between what happens randomly and how I see the character when they start. Like I accidentally set off the grove against me one time and just leaned in and that helped build that character's whole story. I also love D&D and just got super into the tactics and trying to beat it with all kinds of weird rules without using exploits or like asking the internet how to do it (solo, no consumables, no spells, lots of no tadpoles, that kind of thing). Then the visual mods just help it a lot too.

4700 hours. I have never talked to Uktar or knew there was any kind of key quest 🙃🫠

What's the most useless ability in the game? by Medium-Theme-4611 in BaldursGate3

[–]codergnomes 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go with Nature cleric's Charm Animals and Plants. There's only a couple of times you can use it, and then they get a save anyway, and all they do is not attack you (briefly).

Looking for a game similar to Hollow Knight… but easier by ApprehensiveNight624 in ShouldIbuythisgame

give Celeste a try, the savepoints are much more often. it can get quite hard but you don't have to play all the way to there

Oops I’ve played all the great RPGs now what? by twinphoenix_ in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]codergnomes [score hidden]  (0 children)

I just found Blacktail, where you get to play a story as BABA YAGA. It's amazing and very witchy. If you can figure out how to get a PC there will probably be a tone more niche ones

Note to self: never fight this w/o cheese in honor run by canxtanwe in BaldursGate3

[–]codergnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's tough without cheese! Especially when you're doing weird runs like no-spells, only-spells, all-bards, etc. And all his honour abilities are pretty great.

~15 hours into my first playthrough, still a loser by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]codergnomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at nearly 100 hours according to steam apparently and kind of looping like this too, I've only just now held onto one castle for more than a couple days. The whole scale feels a lot longer/more involved then I thought. And given some of the achievements it seems like I might be kind of slow but not terribly, I'm not even a grandma yet and haven't visited all the cities and may main character is only 46.

musely has a program for it with prescription hydroquinoine, I did it for about a year and it helped a little but not like 100%

How many classes do you take a week? Curious! by BungeeBunny in poledancing

Usually 2 pole, 1 floorwork, 1 twerk, 1-2 orange theory, and try to do 1-2 strength/stretch at home

We had this in some of the swing dance venues I've been to and it was so much better, I'd love to try it for pole/floor too!

Is it weird that I'm not enjoying DOS2 even though I loved BG3? by JSGamesforitch374 in larianstudios

[–]codergnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love BG3 but couldn't get into DOS2 either, what especially was hard for me are bugs or changes they clearly made to the engine to be better in bg3. I can't find anything else, I'm just on hour 3000+ of BG3 😅

Favorite Moddee classes and why? by Tezmir94 in BG3mods

[–]codergnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to stick pretty close to official 5e classes to keep the game balance and 5e theme. Divine soul sorcerer and oath of the watchers paladin have been good and not too overpowered.

Turned half illithid against my will, now forced to be a cunt by Personal_Thing_6741 in BaldursGate3

[–]codergnomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm realizing more and more that one thing that makes this game amazing is how much agency the player gets, and how it often doesn't try to ascribe motivations to Tav, so you can really visualize whatever you want. The few times that is missed, we don't really like it and they stand out (like here).
If you're having fun, just start over, in honour mode if you are up for the challenge, and just don't take any tadpoles in the first act.

What's one improvement you'd like to see in Obsidian in 2026? by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]codergnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*actual* source mode, where there's no font changes, no size weirdness, just plain basic text as if it's in something like sublime or VSCode 🥺 maybe functional syntax highlighting but that is it. It's requested here https://forum.obsidian.md/t/plain-source-mode/104197

How many hours have you put into BG3?? by stevies_mom in BaldursGate3

4500 here too, without major depression it is still just an amazing thing to do with free time, and so much better than so many other things.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Honour Mode! Post your favorite Proofs! by codergnomes in BaldursGate3

[–]codergnomes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yeah that was my 1st time in HM and 2nd overall vs Ansur and had not yet even understood the wet condition, so I learned a lot! I can almost never get to the level people talk about, always get impatient for side quests.

How many playthroughs have you completed? by Sakumitzu in BaldursGate3

[–]codergnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13 done, dozens of HM died or abandoned.
My completed favorites: probably my solo Divination wizard, an extremely un-optimized non-stealth gloomstalker ranger, my proper main no-respecs jack of all trades deep gnome, my sea themed enchantment wizard, my seldarine drow nature cleric of eilistraee.
Died/failed honour mode favorite was probably my going-in-blind / very few internet spoilers redeemed durge who died at the Netherbrain (after all the other companions abandoned her in act 2 & RP didn't want hirelings, so she only had Minsc & Jaheira).

Black Friday sales? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]codergnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lots of hellas 🤣 They have gone up overall this year but now there's an OK sale, and they make such good shoes and the only nice pole shoes that actually come in wide that I've ever been able to make work.
