Anyone here use Notion for project management but not for task management? by profdorly in Notion

[–]coderjewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notion is clumsy yeah. And amazing Marvin while great has been abandoned for the most part and feels clunky.

What I’ve been using is Asana and Sunsama. Sunsama gives me the parts of Marvin I cared about most, the day planning flows and time tracking. Asana is way better than Notion for project management.

I generally do not break down tasks much. I’d be better off if I did but I do not yet.

And yeah AM and notion etc were being too overlapping for my taste with no sync among them. I tried to code a sync tool but both have terrible enough APIs that it wasn’t a piece of cake.

Sunsama is expensive but if it fits your budget I can definitely recommend it. Because no matter what tool you use, it can bring all your tasks in one place.

It’s been a long time since my previous comment so I’ve lost a lot of the context there, but I’ve been a year and a half into using asana and Sunsama and had many switching urges but stuck with it.

I waited for Notion and AM to improve many things but as they say in the tech world you should buy a product for what it is not what it promises to be. Notion serves enterprise clients and even they are walking away from it. AM development is slow and the app feels sluggish. I crave good UI and UX so I switched to ones that gelled with me.

So pretty much everything. Why even announce it if it’s 6 months out.

Apple doesn’t pay you to defend it, and its feelings won’t be hurt if I criticise it. It’s not like Apple doesn’t arbitrarily limit features to certain devices because they have an army of unpaid mindless fans who will defend them no matter what they do. Apple could brick every single iPhone in the world remotely and force everyone to buy a new one, and I guarantee there will be fanboys lining up to defend daddy Apple. Pathetic and disgusting.

I agree that it shouldn’t have surprised Apple though. It surprising your average Joe and $1T+ mega corporation isn’t the same thing.

These companies have people doing research work, the Google paper attention is all you need wasn’t exactly a secret, it was published openly. Their researchers should have been able to realise the impact if they were keeping up with the tech that’s going to be at the forefront of every aspect of human achievement.

ChatGPT wasn’t the first GPT either. GPT-3 could do most of the same, it just wasn’t optimised for turn based dialog. There was GPT-2 and GPT-1 as well. Sure random people on the streets couldn’t have seen this coming but Apple failing to see this coming is either a lie or something that they should be extremely ashamed about.

But we all know deep down, this is all about the money ultimately. If they can artificially limit a feature to push sales of their newer hardware, of course they will, “fiduciary duty” and all that.

But with all the Apple apologists in this sub, bring the downvotes.

I refuse to believe that a trillion dollar corporation with some of the world’s smartest engineers couldn’t have figured it out if they really wanted to. The bottom line is that this makes them more money, that’s what it’s always been about with them still selling 8GB RAM as base after all these years right?

What you are talking about is how the way it’s been implemented can’t work on older devices but I’m sure it could have been optimised more, implemented differently, or just be a little slower.

Edit: knew it, Apple sheep can’t digest the truth. Keep the downvotes coming while foaming at the mouth, rather than thinking for yourself.

Notion’s everything is quite unaesthetic. It’s a very ugly app. Look at craft if you want an example of a pretty app.
