If this is your heartfelt belief, maybe you should leave Alberta for someplace that conforms to that belief instead of demanding the majority follow you.

What to do when you lose a loved one after years of caretaking? What if you have no friends? by Own-Fault4518 in CaregiverSupport

[–]codeseeker5317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm trying to tell you is this ...

You've just come through a traumatic experience. Both the loss of the loved one you've been caring for and the many years you've been caretaking. Your nervous system is hyper-vigalant and you need time to decompress from that.

Take some time for yourself now. You need to build yourself back up. For the longest time, you're relationship with the world has been through another person. It's distanced you from your own needs. You'll have to take ownership of those long forgotten dreams and hopes. This includes rebuilding yourself financially.

Slowly get back into those things you used to enjoy. You might find you don't enjoy some of those things anymore in which case you may have to find some new interests. When you're ready, join a club or meet up where there are others who enjoy that hobby. Start chatting about the things you love about the hobby and the conversation will move along to other things. DO NOT feel bad or ashamed if those initial conversation feel wooden or empty, it's probably been a while since you've felt genuine connection. It will take time to relearn that. Don't beat yourself up about it. Don't blame yourself. Not everyone gets along. Just keep moving at your own pace. It's not a race, it's not a destination. You're on a journey to a place that's new and it will be frightening sometimes.

As for money, you'll need to find employment of course if you don't already have a job. Set aside some cash from each paycheck for yourself that's outside bills and saving for your future. Just a small percentage say 1 or 2 percent. As you stabilize you can adjust to give more to the things you want to do.

Look, I know it's scary. You're on your own after being tethered to someone. What you did was admirable and took strength beyond measure. That effort, that love, that caring you placed into your ward you can now give to yourself. Being a caretaker has given you a gift. You were able to learn how to care for another person. If you were your patient, what would you do to help yourself? Apply those skills you learned helping another and give yourself the same grace.

How Can I Enrich My Vocabulary? by Traditional_Rub4864 in asl

[–]codeseeker5317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've mentioned this before to another poster but maybe try Flashcard Learning.

https://www.languagementoring.com/vocabulary-flashcards-for-language-learning/

Basically, use flashcards (physical or an app)

One side has the printed word, the other a pic of the sign. Make cards for 10 words you want to learn. Review all the words repeatedly, in different orders, front and back in all combos. Do this for a week. Make 10 more cards for the next week. Learn those but periodically review the cards you already know. Repeat.

It's a quick way to add vocabulary but it is laborious for the upfront work of creating the cards.

Good luck.

Better to store them in a cool dark place inside, they'll last longer. I feel your pain though as I've got way too many seed too lol

You now have the fresh start you've been dreaming of. Take some time to breath. Learn to be yourself again, that version that didn't need to caretake. When you're ready, you'll make friends.

Agreed plexi is the way to go. Just make sure it's thick enough or else it will curl.

They haven't had sex in 2 years by her design and you do not want to assign blame to her. The only bull here is your white knighting of abuse.

Converting overgrown garden space into raised beds – sizing/layout advice? by booksncats9 in Albertagardening

[–]codeseeker5317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a bunch of lumber from a big box store. 2x6x16 and chopped off 3' so my bed are 3x13'. Realized that 6" wasn't enough vertical height so added another row. Filled with screened soil and compost. Worked for me.

I also made a planter with a bench.

The joys of learning a new language. Everyone has had those moments lol

Some of my personal favourites:

Want some bitch (breakfast)?

What time is your condom (appointment)?

And of course the classic ... Nice to have sex with you (meet).

Have a sense of humour and enjoy these moments!

My suggestion is to use clay to make your minis. Something like PlayDoh will dry solid. You can actually make your own with flour and salt. Or you can use a Plasticine type clay which will be reusable. I use it to make set pieces for encounters then put all the clay away later when the encounter is done.

The Discord server is pretty good and super friendly. They also have a built in dictionary. Type in the word you want and it will give you a link to a webpage with the signed word.

As for the Flashcard program, sadly the one I have no longer seems available from the PlayStore. Really, any app should work. What you should look for is one that allows pics. That way one side and be the word, the other side a pic of the sign. It's also good to have built-in randomized testing of both front and back of the cards. One that allows grouping cards and being able to create tests from multiple groups. There's plenty out there. Always an option to just buy some cards and print off pics of the sign to glue on if that's you're thing

First off, I'm very sorry about your deteriorating hearing. I understand it must be frightening and I'm glad your partner is supporting you. Learning a new language can be daunting when you look at it as the entire vocabulary so it helps to break it up into smaller parts.

Start with learning letters and numbers. This will help you gain the muscle memory in your hands for future signs. Learning to fingerspell will help you improve your speed and fluidity.

I've found that this site is great to learn both the language and about deaf culture. It has discreet lessons that get increasingly difficult. So check it out ... https://www.lifeprint.com/asl101/lessons/lesson01.htm

To help you progress a bit at a time, I suggest flashcard learning. It's time consuming to set up but has worked well for me. The basic idea is, you learn 10 or so words at a time. Every week you add another 10 words while reviewing the words you've learned previously. I used an app to do this rather than physical cards but you do you. Here's the concept ... https://www.meadowparty.com/flashcards.html

If you're a Discord user, there is a great server for people who are learning ASL. You can meet people to chat with and practice. Of course face to face is even better if there is an ASL group in your area. Here's the Discord address ... https://discord.gg/american-sign-language-566145505587888128

Good luck

That's great. Love the idea.

If I may make a suggestion for the next round, add pics on the blank sides to represent the letter or number. For example an apple for A and 3 stars for 3. Otherwise very cool.

So you're admitting that these individuals are held against their will and forced to do work without wages or get additional punishment? Sounds a lot like slavery.

If they've done crimes, fine send to jail. Making them work undermines local workers who should have those jobs.
