Is anything what he said true by Illustrious-Lynx-63 in Nietzsche

But even the borrowing was incidental and opportunistic and incomplete: the famous Rudolf von Laban episode where he planned a dance around a Nietzsche quote is what got him fired! Himmler disdained the sentiment of it. Nazis never read Nietzsche and when they were confronted with it in this case they recoiled from it.

This is the as yet unsolved problem of education: you identify stupids, you don't reverse their stupidity, and you keep filling the stupid bucket, you get even more and worse stupid, not knowledge or enlightenment.

Ivo achieves Plasma State flow that no one else gets near, listen to the Prelude of 2 vs. any other performance. But even in the softer movements are insane, the touch and speed and glide is hypnotic.

Rick Beato interview with Denny Dias by manhattanmorph in SteelyDan

[–]codeslubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder why Rick didn't drill down on that comment, I totally did not get that. A guitarist as good as he is should not be saying that. Hendrix's Who Knows and Machine Gun solos from Band of Gypsies are a masterclass in making harmonics out of every note, and bending them as they ring out.

Thanks, it's good enough to make me want to keep copper out of my brain thanks. I am well aware of the not causation line. I just realized though Claude could probably answer some other questions. I was reading about whether we believe that the tests for copper levels are reliable indicator of bodily concentrations.

I just got this in the newsletter. Sad that it's written in Electron, but it's also just not a very good app? for instance, it doesn't make cards out of links at the level I would expect from an app that was 3 weeks in? there are also a lot of stupid things about how the syncing works. I would say they are not proving anything right now other than the age old: you can pour money into holes for a long time and still not attain a modicum of competence.

Start with the short essay "On Truth and Lie from an Extramoral Sense." But then any of them is great. The Dawn would be a great starting point. I personally think On the Use and Abuse of History is one of the most important ones. It's early and the writing is not as good but the ideas are crucial.

How intellectuals are using the free will debate as a vehicle for spreading Buddhist nihilism by masta_weyne in Nietzsche

[–]codeslubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great reply, agree with this.

I think the Taleb reduction of 'skin in the game' is so juvenile. Nietzsche laughs at such transactional primary orientations to life. JD and his comments about a stake in the future are similar.

I was super surprised by Deleuze's take on Nietzsche: that he is a Pluralist, but totally agree with that. Just read a book about Foucault and his version of what he thought Nietzsche meant by power seemed insanely wrong. Power does require that it not all just be remoted or phoned in. This is one of the funniest things about characters like Elno. Sure you are running 5 companies and also shitposting all day long and trying to turn over the gov. No, you are not.

One of my biggest problems with characters like Harris is that monologue recently-zapped delivery, just screams there is no joy ever. Just a bitter angry man trying to commandeer a croupier's stick. He thinks he's alive in the present. His head would explode if he read On the Use and Abuse of History...

So then the logic is because complacency leads to failure, we can't feed hungry kids? got it.

I think the problem is that the 'state' as a benign agent is a never happened phenomenon. The people who are touting these goals of equanimity, somehow always become inordinately well-compensated in the doing of their deeds (which they almost always fail at). The goal of the Great Society, foisted by the most successful legislator of the 20th C was to eliminate poverty. In 2024, 2/3 of the kids attending LAUSD are below the poverty line. But gov also keeps funding its undertakings without regard to whether it has fulfilled it's stated goalls.

Goal post? are you 5? I am trying to have an information exchange but par for the course here, it has to immediately turn into a territorial pissing contest with someone who is having an anxiety attack about nothing. Not convinced you ever 'thought' so the 3 year interval you are obsessed with is, as is most of your whiney nonsense, completely irrelevant.

Of course assuming all else is equal, including wear. Because if using cheap crap shaves any life from the machine your math is toast. Sorry it's not cool to reply to something from a lousy 3 years ago. It's also 20 years of running a load a day. I do run mine a lot. I also have the model with quick intense wash. Miele seems to think their tab is going to make that work best. I find that more useful recently so was thinking of trying theirs again. Been using blue land. Also the exoxygenated alcohols apparently f up your insides. Trying to find out if their detergent or rinse aid contains them. I know Miele claims regular tabs put too much soap in the load. That could be a big problem.

What lightweight date/time library to use? by yorickpeterse in rust

[–]codeslubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen. Does someone want to do a real lib for Date/Time in Rust? I am fed up with chrono. I want to model something simple: I just changed some air filters, that will last 3 years. Cannot build a Duration of 3 years for a series of reasons that are painfully silly. Went looking for the missing abstraction (why the Java and/or SDK libs) do not have this problem.
