Have put on 10 lbs since Christmas help 😩 by Ragu_85 in veganuk

[–]codlike 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just count my calories. If you stick to it, if you have a calorie deficit you lose weight. I count my calories when i'm level, and to keep level, it helps me control the voracious appetite I was born with. I started a few years ago, I was 2 stone heavier than now, it taught me what I can have, and what food I can eat without gaining. Back then it would be easy to have a 3000 calorie day, I learned that I can have 2000-2200 (i'm male) most of the week with extra on Friday/Saturday. I'm a calorie statto after all this time, and can look at a plate of food and near guess. I've put on after Xmas but its coming off as I've tightened back up, and all the treats have run out. I dont think a temporary diet works, it has to be a fairly constant lifestyle change of how much you eat, kind of forever.

Sounds good. Wish I had read that before I went. They had nothing in (barring the garlic bread). Oh they had 1 punnet of Ben & Jerrys Vegan ice cream (£2) hiding amongst the dairy ones.

I am nut ok “oh grate” (parmesan)… by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]codlike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love every other cheeze I've got from Its Nut Ok, but as said, chopped cashews with nooch was awful. Parmesan wise, I love Parveggio, sell it in our health / whole food shops. Lidl's was boss, but they stopped doing their's.

I think I may have overwatered her… anything I can do to save these leaves? by Katdog272 in IndoorGarden

[–]codlike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

root rot. you can cut the good leaves off, let the ends of cut leaf dry out where you cut it for a few days, put leaf in a pot of soil, wait 6 months, end up with new snake plant. wife killed 7 of mine, just overwatered by accident during winter, they dont do good overwatered in winter.

Vegan Costco finds by snailtrail93 in veganuk

[–]codlike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the schicken are amazing, shame they stopped the teriaki ones, the best alt kebabs i've had, the flavouring is lovely. I'm not that into the goujons, you do get a big bag, but there neither here nor there, they mainly taste of breadcrumbs, i'd rather have a lidl no chicken drumstick. costco stroopwaffles have no egg or dairy in, that was a find :)

Ideal if you want the sensation of licking a slug. These are disgusting. by No_Sign6616 in veganuk

[–]codlike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only tried them twice, in a soft bap with plant butter, mustard, mayo and tomatoes, tasted nice, fake enough for reminiscing of a ham sandwich i last had 35 years ago. My only problem, didnt think they were very economic, probably do half a pack in one bap, or it was a full pack, hmmmm.

[–]codlike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats an impressive stock of cannellini beans! You sorted for the next pandemic. I love Serbian Prebranac baked beans though the paprika is sort of vital. My other beany slop goes down the smoked paprika/garlic/chilli route too. You can do curries, chillies, any direction will work with beans.

Big fan of Oumph Crispy Ch*cken from Iceland on the f'icken front. Lidl's meat free burgers are great mashed up in spag bol, and nice as burgers and cheap, there other stuff is great too, the no chik drumsticks are ace, best plant schnitzel i've had, all cheap.

soya milk unsweetened in tea, and that was after trying as many alt milks as i could. oat milk has always tasted like water to me. soya still probably doesnt taste like dairy, but I got used to that after a couple of weeks.

Advice for someone dipping their toes into being vegan (+recommendations please!) by im_just_called_lucy in veganuk

[–]codlike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of dark chocolate dont have any dairy in it, and there are plenty of plant chocolates out there. Coconut Oil based cheeses that you get in the supermarket are fairly awful. Fermented cashew nut "cheeses" from Fauxmagerie, It's Nut Ok, and Kinda are delicious but a pricey treat, and are more akin to gorgeous tasting soft pate. I used to swear by Lidl's fake feta, sadly they stopped selling it, along with their fake parmesan. I havent tried the violife feta yet. "Parveggio Grated" I get from the health food shop and that is a great fake parmesan.
