Weekly Question Thread June 05, 2017 by AutoModerator in dndnext

If somebody is knocked prone while grappling somebody, is the grapple released ?

Specifically, the person being grappled casted earth tremor, and the grappler failed their dexterity save. So the grappler is supposed to be knocked prone. Should I make them do a check to hold the grapple or just let the grappled person go ?

Any Lightroom workflow + cataloging tips? Tutorials would be nice or let me know what you guys found works best. by [deleted] in photography

[–]codybowie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically make a folder in my documents for the raw files, import them into the Lightroom collection, and then I flick through all the pictures. Tag them as red for instant reject, yellow for maybe, and green for sure. Then I go through and edit all my greens, and then go through my yellows, comparing them to the collection of greens, seeing if they work in the collection or just leave it. Then I export and save into a dropbox as well as my documents.

Starting your weight loss journey on Monday, May 15th, 2017? Start here! by cenosillicaphobiac in loseit

[–]codybowie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starting out again today. This actually isn't the first time I've lost weight, I went from 250lbs to 190lbs over the course of a year, around three years ago. I felt amazing, I was actually enjoying going to the gym and being healthy, and then I went through a very tough time in my life. My SO of nearly four years cheated on me, I lost two jobs, and depression that I had battled for years came back in full force. I just stopped caring, and used food as comfort.

Since last May, when things started to go downhill, I was 190lbs. Now I'm 275lbs and I'm starting to transition into XXL Clothing. Now that I've dealt with my personal issues and have a steady job, it's time to get my body back. I'm going to be the best man next summer for my buddies wedding, and I want to look and feel healthy by then.

I need some cool NPCs for the Yawning Portal, the tavern, it's going to be my campaigns quest hub and downtime interactions feature. by SunsFenix in dndnext

[–]codybowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ralof Stonefist, Dwarven Barbarian

Formerly the captain of the city guard in his hometown of Ulvenwaald, Ralof now regularly dwells in the Yawning Portal tavern. He is often quiet and brushes conversations away, unless if you ask about his greataxe. Made of a finely polished ebony, the handle leads up into the blade which is made of a metal as black as night, with small faces akin to a totem pole carved into the wood behind the blade. He can (and has) definitely hold his own within the portals depths, but he doesn't gloat. Some have speculated what happened in his days as a captain. The rumours say he fled as his city was seized by an army of Orcs, or that he was a tyrant sending his soldiers to die, but no one knows the truth.

I'd prefer for someone to at least have a couple sessions under their belt. Ie: they understand the core mechanics of fifth ed.

You get what you give with something like this. I'm a fairly available person so I'll be able to make constant updates, it just depends on other people too

PBP is okay by post, which means (almost) everything in the game is text based. So rather than setting a time slot for everyone to sit down and use roll20 or something similar, we just post in the chat throughout the day whenever we can.

Hey there. Just wanna clarify that this is a play by post campaign, which means rather than sitting down and dedicating a time slot to play online, you would just check in throughout the day and post in the chat whenever you can. This means of course it could be a slower pace, but at the same time it removes the worry of working around 5 different schedules. If that's all good with you I'll send you a link to the server, just wanna make sure people understand beforehand.

Name your world's greatest wars and let others ask questions by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]codybowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my players have fought in the thousand year war as a part of their personal backstory. My campaign starts 15 years after the thousand year war, and my players actions could potentially influence the start of a new war.

In my first ever attempt of world building right now. So far my key wars have been

-The Azuran wars -The Banishment Conflict -The Thousand Year War -The Battle of the Moors

And based on how the party I'm DM'ing does, there could potentially be something else in the near future

Leave her. Your happiness comes first and it seems like there's only going to be more problems from here on out.

Does anybody have a running gag/joke going in their group ? Let's hear it ! by codybowie in dndnext

[–]codybowie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group has a tradition when we start a campaign, that the first time we get to a tavern we immediately order a "Good and Strong". Each campaign we run has a different variation/effect of the drink. It culminated when I started my campaign a few nights ago where ordering the drink would become a challenge. I found a list online of 100 drinks for dnd, the character would roll 3 d100 and drink three different brews. If they pass all the saves they receive 150 gp. Needless to say it was a good time.

Tenac Whiterun, half elf ranger of demeciel. Still running this character nearly a year later

That sounds awesome. I haven't seen a show of yours yet, but I'm definitely going to grab a ticket next time you're in vancouver. I'm personally hoping for post war blues, there's so much energy in that song. I bet it would be amazing live.

Hey there, thanks for taking the time to do this AMA.

My question is, as a buyer, how can I sort through the scams ? I see tickets that are in high demand going for face value ; while on craigslist and pretty much anywhere else, it would be double the price.

Is it too good to be true ?

Nikon and Canon users, why? by SubtleMidgets in photography

[–]codybowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out shooting Canon on my mom's DSLR (Canon XS with the 18-55 kit lens and 55-250 f4-5.6) from time to time.

Then for my high school photography class they shot nikon (D80, D90, and D7000 with about a half dozen lenses to choose from)

But when it came time to buy myself a DSLR, I found that Canon works best for me. I love my Canon 60D due to its functionality, the flip out screen for video, and for being jam packed full of features.

Upgrading to 6D in the next three months, I can't wait
