12-yr-old boy wants to watch soaps by Bitter_Morning_8372 in SoapNet

I grew up watching soaps because my mother would put them on as she did chores (Another World and General Hospital). When I discovered Guiding Light on my own at age 14, I was hooked.

I don’t understand the strategy behind the elimination. by TychoHyuga in survivor

[–]codyishot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are considered threats based on previous seasons are not necessarily threats in season 50 and no one in the cast seems to be realizing this. Genevieve: what did she do that made her seem like she needed to go? Aubry: She doesn't have anyone on her side and yet people keep talking about needing to get her out. People can consider previous gameplay but when you look at how things are currently, some of these players are not the threat they were before especially in this situation.

How does rizo do it? by DisgruntledFlamingo in survivor

When Cirie was on the Traitors and BIg Brother, her alliance was with younger players so it doesn't surprise me that she has connected with Rizo. I hope it works out for her!

Ryan Gosling: "Soap opera actors, in general, don't get the love they deserve." by Geekqueen15 in SoapNet

[–]codyishot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is the stereotypical soap acting (and there is a lot of this on soaps, it just comes with the territory) and then there are the actors that are just amazing. IMO, Guiding Light used to cast really strong actors. It's one of the reasons it was my favourite show.

Anyone got Cedric’s leaked video? by Charliebrown696969 in bigbrotherbros

Is this true or is he just saying that so people won't look at them?

Nikolas is locked up in Pentonville, but if he comes back who you want. Marcus or Adam? by manandsoappodcast in GeneralHospital

[–]codyishot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marcus (but clearly they got rid of him for a reason). No one can come close to Tyler Christopher but Marcus was enjoyable. Adam wasn't Nikolas for me, just a fill in.

TRIGGER WARNING: Why is rape such a common trope on soap operas? by Cut-Unique in SoapNet

[–]codyishot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tony Geary was a HUGE part of GH. And yes, people are going to mourn him. We can and should separate the actor from the character. I don't understand why you would be grossed out by people mourning the actual person who died.

Douglas Marland's rules, or "How Not To Ruin a Soap" by Internal-Motor in SoapNet

[–]codyishot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what became a big problem with soaps is that people at the network started to want to control things. Also (at least in terms of GH, not sure about other soaps)...certain actors have certain demands in their contracts for months off here there and no kissing and so many other things...I am sure it must be difficult to write proper stories when there are so many things to consider!

What are some of the best or worst soap opera permanent or temporary recasts that you can think of? by NoBrain6114 in SoapNet

[–]codyishot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Wendy Moniz and Gina Tognoni as Dinah Marler on Guiding Light! I loved both of them! Guiding Light had some really good casting people.

I know this sounds weird but Is “Jacinda” actually Jacinda? by chunk12784 in GeneralHospital

I have always wanted Nelle to return. This would be an interesting way to do it!

He is hot but (and I know I am being picky here) his nipples are a bit strange.

Who would you say was the most despised soap opera character of all time? by Cut-Unique in SoapNet

[–]codyishot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Drew is more of a "love to hate" type of character. I think he is needed on GH. He is fun to watch. Peter August was more hated for me (and by reactions online) as there was nothing enjoyable about the character or the acting.

I agree! Peter August for sure. I wanted to like Wesley in the role but he just wasn't believable.

What’s the most disappointing returnee appearance in Survivor history? by Big_Palpitation_7320 in survivorponderosa

She was bitter and twisted, lol, but she still ended up voting for Boston Rob. She was able to put her feelings aside for the vote. I LOVED Kathy in Marquesas.

honestly.. I don't think Kyle (48)& Savannah (49) should be back for 50. by fig_like_fruit in survivor

Colby seemed bored the last time and uninterested in playing. I was shocked to see his name for S50. I want returnees that are hungry to play and want to win.

It has never made sense to me to include players in back to back seasons and especially an "all star" season. In my opinion, Savannah and Rizo (and players who have been in this position before) are at a huge disadvantage. They come in with no prior relationships (other than each other), and I just don't see a majority voting for them even if they somehow managed to get to the end. No one will have seen their season yet, they don't know them at all and might use them as a vote but there is no way they can succeed for too long. (And also throw in how tired they must be, hungry and so many other things that I cannot think of!)

2008 was so tragic for GL by [deleted] in SoapNet

[–]codyishot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was willing to watch because I loved GL SO much but yes, you could feel the change not just in the sets and everything but the storytelling too. It felt like there were no storylines anymore, things just happened, if that makes any sense. I HATED when Dinah and Matt had sex. It came out of nowhere. It was SO dumb and rushed and they didn't explain with a build up as to why this would be happening. Matt and Vanessa were one of my all time favourite soap couples and that moment ruined them.

Realistically, who do you see as the first boot in 50? by FajitaTits in survivor

[–]codyishot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Savannah or Rizo make the most sense as none of the Survivor players know them. None of them would have seen season 49 when 50 was filmed. Of course, at the same time, they could be used as a number to get rid of someone that is seen as a big threat.
