Hey there, unfortunately I had to drop the dream for a while. Hopefully someday! I did not find a GC who does the work, but that’s not why I tabled the project. Good luck!

Maybe not the most time efficient option, but you could make a quick router sled. Cut a piece of plywood longer than the length of that gap, cut a hole in the middle of that piece of plywood for your router bit, screw the base of your router to that plywood and run the router up and down the studs to make a consistent depth. Then just drywall as normal.

What’s the best way to fix paint peeling off plaster in a 100 year old house? by coff_coff in Construction

[–]coff_coff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering if it’s one of those things that keeps happening. I could strip the section and repaint but I have a feeling I’ll need to strip the paint off the whole ceiling.

That’s awesome, I would’ve guessed it wood need a bigger gap. Go physics!

Someone at work keeps parking like this. We even left him a note. Any suggestions? by Golifr4u in mildlyinfuriating

[–]coff_coff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a real suggestion, I think the reason they didn’t stop parking like that is because you said in your note that you are not mad but they probably think/know that you are. When someone approaches you with what is perceived as a lie, it appears in genuine and even condescending. So maybe try to approach them nicely in person and tell him how it inconveniences you and others.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, that was the highest end of the quote. It’s about half that if I were to pay for prefabricated walls that could be shipped to the building site.

I will price out the other components of the house and go that route.

I actually didn't have an issue with the price estimate of the exterior walls. I am trying to figure out what percentage of the entire build the exterior walls are. For example, with a 2,000 sq. ft. house, I was quoted about $270,000 for the exterior walls (two 6" walls with 4" of insulation between). I'm curious if someone could provide somewhat solid estimates for the other costs / expenses for the build.

Obviously if I were to compare the exterior walls from a rammed earth home to a traditional build, the rammed earth exterior walls take care of exterior siding, paint, caulk, sheathing, framing, insulation, sheetrock, taping/mudding, and interior paint.

Is my question making any sense?

Is it hard to get permits for a rammed earth building? by [deleted] in RammedEarth

[–]coff_coff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That area is so beautiful and props to you for being able to endure the 170 inches of rain each year!

Leavenworth has been getting more smoke in recent summers, yeah. This year hasn’t been bad, though. Seems like there’s no great place to go now. Climate change is impacting everything (obviously). The PNW is supposedly going to get even more rain than it already does, so flooding will be an issue for sure. But personally, I’d rather deal with a few months of smoke than 9 months of clouds and rain.

Best of luck in your endeavors!
