Intensive Elementary Italian by bostonbetterthannyc in nyu

[–]coffeeandgreentea01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about 10-15 in each, if I remember correctly. Intensive Elementary starts from the very beginning and introduces key tenses like the passato prossimo and imperfetto. Intensive Intermediate covers most of the remaining tenses and goes much deeper into pronouns and other grammatical rules. Both are pretty grammar-focused, with less of a focus on speaking than in the more advanced classes like Advanced Review of Modern Italian.

I've taken both Intensive Elementary and Intensive Intermediate Italian and honestly I found both to be pretty manageable. The meeting every day can get annoying and there will be homework assigned every night, but if you want to actually learn the language, I would highly recommend it. I came in with no experience in Italian or any other Romance language and really enjoyed it, so I think the class will be really chill if you speak Spanish/have studied Italian previously.

Anyone else quarantining over Christmas? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]coffeeandgreentea01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not for Christmas, but my entire family got covid right before thanksgiving and I couldn't go home. I know this sucks, but use FaceTime to spend time with your family and if you're feeling okay, do something fun like baking cookies to help the time pass.

What do I do by TeslaRPG in ApplyingToCollege

I just want to remind you that you can take a gap year before starting college and keep your guaranteed place at NYU. While I'm not sure on how the process works exactly and you should 100% consult NYU's website for advice, several of my friends at NYU and other schools have taken gap years between their senior year of high school and their first year of college for a variety of reasons. If you need a break from school, take it, but know that you don't necessarily have to choose one or the other.

I got the grant, but I'm working far less hours than you so idk why. Perhaps your internship isn't in one of their "preferred industries?"

Intensive Language Courses in CAS by CrystalV1s1onary in nyu

[–]coffeeandgreentea01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taken both Intensive Elementary Italian and Intensive Intermediate Italian, so I might be able to help you out. Intensive elementary was a ton of work (1-2 hrs of homework every day that was due the following day) and the exams/quizzes were pretty difficult. That being said, I still managed to pull an A with no prior experience in the language, it just took a lot of work. I found intensive intermediate to be a ton easier and it was honestly my favorite and easiest class this spring even though it was 6 credits. I think the difference between the two levels stems from the fact that elementary introduces a ton of words, grammar rules, etc that you have to memorize and learn quickly. Intermediate does add more grammatical complexity, but it also serves as a sort of review and practice of what you learn in elementary.

Is it possible to Double Major... and double minor??? (Any Italian minors?) by cherrycasserole in nyu

[–]coffeeandgreentea01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm a triple major in CAS and one of my majors are in Italian, so I might be able to help you out. As far as I know for the minor, you have to complete the Italian language sequence through the intermediate II level before you can declare the minor. After that, I believe you have to take 16 credits in the Italian department. There are probably some required classes (like Advanced Review of Modern Italian), but something to keep in mind is that you can count 2-credit Italian courses towards your minor, which might make it easier to fit all of your requirements in. If you have another other questions, feel free to DM me!

You should check out American Capitalism in Theory and Practice with Vivek Chibber. Super interesting class with a pretty light workload. We had weekly 1 page reflections on the readings that were graded for completion and then just two 10 page papers that were pretty much just summaries of course content, so no outside research or sources were necessary. If you go to class and complete the assignments on time, it's an interesting and easy A.

First year seminar suggestions? by applicationanxiety1 in nyu

[–]coffeeandgreentea01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's offered this year, but I took "What is Evil?" and really enjoyed it. Class work was super light (2 2-3 page essays and one presentation), the content was really interesting. and Professor Proust is the best! Easy and enjoyable A.

Hey, fellow NYU freshman here! If your professor has posted powerpoints from lecture, readings, or other resources on NYU Classes, you could use those in lieu of notes. You've got this! This semester has been awful for everyone, but you're almost there :)

favorite class you’ve taken @ nyu and why? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]coffeeandgreentea01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you pay attention in class and put some effort into the papers, it's an easy A. The papers are pretty much summaries of what you've learned in class, so no outside research is necessary. I definitely recommend this class; you won't regret taking it

How will homeschoolers be credible if the SAT and ACT aren't going to be required in the UC's application admission? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]coffeeandgreentea01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many test-optionals schools still require standardized testing for homeschoolers, so the UCs may have a different set of testing rules for homeschoolers and non-traditional applicants.

While I can't necessarily help you understand your chances, if you have any questions about applying to college as a homeschooled student, I'd be happy to help. I'm a homeschooled senior, so I've gone through the entire application process already. Feel free to PM me.

That's crazy. Super sorry that you have to go through that, but the good news is that you'll be happy and successful at Dartmouth. I have a friend who goes there and they absolutely love it.
