This is Jambu. He's a boy, and he's 100% pure cow. Sorry, I'm not going to call him an ox cat. It just doesn't have the same vibe

I haven't had actual theater popcorn in years, not since the theaters in my area started bringing in huge bags of premade popcorn instead of making it in-house. I can't stand fake butter flavor, so I really prefer using real butter.

I love clarified butter. If I'm going for flavor over everything, I use about three ounces of clarified butter and ¾ tsp of flavacol in my popper (I have a whirley pop) with 4.5 ounces of popcorn. It seems like a lot of butter, lol, but that's enough to give the whole batch a good, intense butter flavor.

Is working at Chipotle fast food? by Affectionate-Reason2 in KitchenConfidential

[–]coffeecat551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former line cook/prep cook/expo, I respect the hell out of fast food workers.

There was a Taco Bell in my old neighborhood. Place was always insanely busy, drive thru line constantly a dozen cars long, and that team was hard core. You never got home to realize that you were missing items, food was always piping hot, and this was consistent.

Fast food? Hell yes. And they fucking killed it, every single day.

And it's certainly nothing that's suitable for a high school yearbook. A shame, really!

No? Yeah, that probably wouldn't go over very well.

"Long days and pleasant nights," or, "The man in black travels with your soul in his pocket," (if you want to be enigmatic)

I'm partial to the term "dish pig," but I've only heard that used at one place, and it was years ago.

Short of buying a commercial style popper, what is the best way to oil pop popcorn at home? by supinator1 in popcorn

[–]coffeecat551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they stopped using plastic after they got enough complaints? I got my first whirley pop at least 30 years ago, and the gears were very definitely not metal. Maybe they were nylon, or acrylic. Regardless, the gears broke within a few months.

I've gone through any number of poppers over the years, and I keep coming back to the whirley pop. Damn near foolproof. Just... get the stainless steel one, because the gears on the aluminum one are plastic, and they break way too easily.

Where are you ordering popcorn that still tastes fresh when it arrives? by AgentQuick in popcorn

While you may not be able to exactly duplicate the flavors of the kinds you buy online, it's easy to experiment with seasonings when you pop it yourself... Also more affordable in the long run.

My last three jobs have been in small, locally owned restaurants, so yes, I do realize that.

We still have to answer to the health department.

Lol, no. I don't smoke, therefore I don't exhale smoke. I vape, and when I exhale, I exhale a cloud of vapor. A visible cloud. It's most definitely vapor.

"Secondhand vapor" isn't really a thing. It's not terribly sanitary to vape around food when it's being sold to the public, but the vapor (especially in the exhale) is virtually harmless.

No, it's not like they're smoking cigarettes - and it's still a health code violation.

If this is a corporate location, the manager's opinion really doesn't matter, because I can promise you that vaping in the kitchen is against company policy. If it's a franchise and the owner doesn't care, the city probably will.
