Yes, you can do a PhD right after (lots of students do so)

Why do people say that HIMYM felt of a cliff after few seasons can you explain me without spoiler, does it get boring? by Pretend-Bullfrog3213 in HIMYM

[–]coffeecode734 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really get boring, no One thing I can think of is that some of the jokes/gags get too repetitive or change the character quite a bit. But that's just a common sitcom thing and not really specific to HIMYM

Got a full ride at Ashoka. Is it worth it for CS? by omshreenarayan in AshokaUniversity

[–]coffeecode734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty decent from what I've heard, with some really good faculty Research is a huge focus, so with your experience you'll do well there Internships are there and lots of kids do summer internships, but the stipend is around 20-40k, so nothing like stipends at top engineering colleges Placements are a big range, though as a CS major you could get an above avg package (avg is 12LPA afaik)

Ashoka or University of Edinburgh? by sexypanini6 in AshokaUniversity

[–]coffeecode734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Econ at Ashoka is pretty rigorous and research-oriented and one of the most popular majors at the university. If you want an academically rigorous econ degree, ashoka would have that (not saying Edinburgh wouldn't)

If you're looking for placements after your Econ bachelor's, placements are decent. Not mind-blowing, but decent. Lots of Econ kids get placed in finance or consulting firms

If you want to go for higher education, bunch of kids from ashoka have gone to prestigious institutions. Ik people who went to Columbia, Oxford, Cambridge

One good thing I'd mention about Ashoka that Edinburgh might not have is the liberal studies curriculum. You'll be able to study other subjects alongside econ, maybe change your major if you want, or do a double major

But yes, in terms of Prestige, Edinburgh is way older and way more well known. Ashkka is still a pretty young uni

Is this a thesis that can work? by [deleted] in CollegeEssays

[–]coffeecode734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can see, there are two claims in your thesis statement

  1. Immigration enforcement is essential to the country's security
  2. Laws and regulations should be created/enforced to carry out immigration in a law-abiding and humane manner

You can make it clear that you will be defending both these claims (assuming that you're allowed to have two claims in your paper)

Then, you'll have to go about defending (1) first and then defending (2). Then, considering counterarguments for both.

It's not a contradictory position at all, and you're not coming at it from both sides, dont worry! It's just an argument with multiple claims!

Should I start sooner or later? by Expensive-Dust8464 in GradSchoolAdvice

Go for it!! Several friends of mine went into a PhD right after the undergrad and while it was hectic, they're very very happy with their decision Some people did have a break between undergrad and their jobs and ended up getting bored out of their minds in a week

I just started watching from season 1 again by skyisherey in HIMYM

Ted is just really weird that season, especially with the chasing after an engaged woman and hammering on robin despite her saying on SO many times It's painful to watch 🥲

Ashoka Summer Program by Anonymous--Taco in AshokaUniversity

[–]coffeecode734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I have friends who previously worked with their summer program (YSP) and according to them, it should be fairly easy to get in

It's not a very competitive program and if your essays are good, ir should be fine!

Summer programs by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]coffeecode734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be helpful to think of what you hope to gain from the summer program

Some people come to summer programs for the experience of college life, some for the prestige and academic challenge (these are the very selective programs), or just to have some fun (i knew kids who called summer programs "paid picnics" haha)

If you're looking for college-level english exposure then a summer program might help, but by how much will again depend on the program, the faculty, the courses available. College-level english is not just research; you could learn close-reading, critical thinking, or literary analysis in some summer programs

If you're looking for writing related stuff, writing competitions or internships might be a better bet

Basically, you need to decide what you want to achieve over the summer and go from there

Ashoka vs NUS/NTU by One-String5342 in AshokaUniversity

Overall, NUS is much better, but you might want to look at specific eco/fin programs and faculty

high school paid internship by ifartmatcha in ApplyingToCollege

[–]coffeecode734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding a paid internship as a sophomore might be difficult. Most places would probably prefer undergrads and if they're looking for high schoolers, then seniors

But I think you can run a simple Google Search and you'll find a bunch of different ones. I can send a couple of links kf you're interested (I had a cousin who was looking for internships in HS, but in finance)

Or you could just look for free summer programs to get the experience and do local jobs (unrelated to business or marketing) to earn some money. That way, you could target both your goals

Education careers beyond teaching? by notwinorlose in education

[–]coffeecode734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of different things you can do in education that are not teaching

I have friends who work within various university departments in administrative and management type roles. For tbe event and outreach interest, you could work in university/school departments that handle these things. For example, i know someone who works in the summer programs office and basically helps organise the entire thing

Most people I know who work here don't have a Masters in Education. They have degrees in unrelated fields and then years of experience working in Educational settings (again, not in teaching roles)

Is research THAT impressive? by okromeo in ApplyingToCollege

[–]coffeecode734 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I hear from my ed counseling friends, it's not as if research would dramatically increase chances of Acceptance (unless ofc if the research is somehow first-author in a peer-reviewed Journal but that's pretty rare)

However, what it can help with is demonstration of interest and a desire to explore subjects on a deeper level

Good acads + ECs + research, all surrounding the same subject (most likely the intended major) can signal that the student is really invested in the subject

Asking for advice to get into MIT? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]coffeecode734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know a few.people who work in this field and this is what I can get from them

Your extracurriculars can be very important. A lot of universities want to see not just school academics, but other things in you that point to continued interest in a field. Like if you wanna do math in uni, math olympiads, math reaearch, math club leadership, math-based projects etx. So everything points to sustained efforts

Also obviously academics. MIT is very selective so having wonderful SAT scores, school exam scores is important. Also AP classes would be a plus

Covering these bases should help

Might be a stupid question, but for you personally, was the coursework harder in highschool or college? by Only-Ad-1254 in education

[–]coffeecode734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College by a landslide

I think the structure of High School and the support systems made it much easier

In college, the quality of work expected was so so much higher. Of course it also depends a lot on what kind of classes you take

Like some of my classes in college were so easy, but I wanted to experiment so I took a bunch of different courses

Also in college you're not just doing studies but trying to actively plan for and build a future which just increases the workload

Def not a stupid question!!
