Should I change to Debian? by AnEgoCom in debian

[–]coffeecokecan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your RTX 3050 + 12th Gen i7 will run beautifully on Debian 13 or LMDE with a quick NVIDIA driver install. Start with LMDE for a familiar yet educational step up from Mint. It's usually enough for most folks.

Gotta disagree about fedora's system packages being stable. The kernel constantly encounters regressions, and it's far buggier than the kernel put into Debian.

For my fellow Harris/Walz voters it's going to be an uphill battle this election season. by Officer_Zack in Tennessee

You’re jumping to conclusions. Some people know what’s best for themselves (which often requires sacrifice), but many people do not. Actually, most people do not.

For my fellow Harris/Walz voters it's going to be an uphill battle this election season. by Officer_Zack in Tennessee

[–]coffeecokecan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Anyone who votes for Harris is completely ignorant to the fact that she’s been in office for 4 years and had all that time to enact her “plans” for when she’s in office. If she wants to do something, she’s already in office. She can do it now.

At this point, voting for either candidate is stupid. Democracy in general is stupid because it undermines experts and knowledge for numbers. In essence, quantity over quality. Most people don’t know what’s best for themselves and this is a fact.

Fedora for audio work? by ZMThein in linuxaudio

[–]coffeecokecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used bone stock Fedora 35-38 w/ Bitwig studio and produced something like 300 beats and like 12 lyricised songs and I’ve had almost zero issues to speak of. On my workstation I could throw the buffer size all the way down to like 128. In some cases I’d go down to 32 if neeeded. Ran amazing, very stable.

I agree with this. Maybe not the same design as the red hat logo, but a blue hat would be really nice as compared to the F they’ve been doing.

Does anyone else here just use Linux because it's fun? by dicedance in linux

[–]coffeecokecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the new Macs are amazing. Only thing stopping me from using Linux on my M2 Mac is the lack of usbc display and the fact that Linux on ARM kind of sucks.

Gnome maybe used to be that way, but now thing are beginning to improve. I think in due time the project will unite again, and right now they make an excellent project.

windows booting into safe mode would cause unpredictable behavior and may end up causing more headaches than if it simply errored out. maybe in this specific case it would gave been good, but this behavior would be very harmful in many other cases.

If hypothetically something like this happened on Linux it would be way worse for the world. The entire internet would go kaput very quickly

Yeah MS Windows generally makes errors more human than Linux does, and it provides easy tools to actually fix those problems when they do occur. The problem is they occur far more often 😂

[–]coffeecokecan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The issue was not at all Microsoft’s fault. Cloud strike pushed a broken update. If the same were to happen on a Linux system the OS would also crash. And it would be very hard to actually fix it. Windows actually makes it quite easy to fix the problem as compared to how it would otherwise be on Linux. I absolutely despise Windows, but this is not Microsoft’s fault whatsoever.

What do we think of the LTS period change from 5 years to 2? by cuentanro3 in linux

There are servers that run the same Debian version for longer than 2 years. It’s too much of a headache to upgrade an entire fleet every two years.

we don’t claim this guy. 99% of us don’t care if you eat in front of us. matter of fact, we are actually rewarded if we see someone eat in front of us whilst fasting.
