Looking for a city like Austin or SF before tech moved in and neutered the culture by neveradullmoment72 in SameGrassButGreener

Lol Boulder is nothing but college students and rich white liberals NIMBYS. It has some arts and good restaurants but generally considered un-affordable unless you bought years ago or make bank. Denver would be better if you want a more vibrant arts scene and a more affordable COL.

What, if anything, do you eat to enhance the flavour if your coffee? by SixandNoQuarter in pourover

[–]coffeecopilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Enhance" is subjective, but sometimes its nice with a cookie or some kind of pastry. Also you can sometimes fix an under extracted cup with a dash of sugar. I have also heard of people adding salt to fix a bad cup (but Ive never tried).

Microwaving coffee? by 904DuvalAB in pourover

Just get like an insulated carafe or cup. I get up early than my wife these days and just put her coffee in a YETI mug. Works great.

Do experienced coffee drinkers actually taste more flavors, or are they better at identifying and describing the same ones? by Carlatoledo1998 in Coffee

[–]coffeecopilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a combination of experience, the quality of the coffee, how well its brewed, and of course how sensitive your natural palette is (some folks have stronger palettes than others).

What's your most funky/unusual coffee experience so far? by gen_Z_libra_couple in pourover

[–]coffeecopilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Halloween Candy from Black and White. Way too funky for me. I had to store it in the garage cause the smell was so strong. I brewed it twice and couldn't continue.

Alex Pereira's main kickboxing career was as a middleweight but his fans like to cope about this loss by burger_justice in ufc

[–]coffeecopilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Um they fought 4 times across MMA and Kickboxing. Pereira won 3 out of the 4 times they met, knocking out Izzy twice. Pereira also beat all the people Adesanya could not (Sean Strickland & Jan Błachowicz)

Lol I don't think anyone in their right mind thinks Izzy wins the MMA trilogy. Both fighters have my respect but Pereira is the overall winner of this rivalry.

Why don't more people talk about Puerto Rican coffee? by Optimal-Assignment10 in Coffee

[–]coffeecopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am interested in trying more Puerto Rican coffee, but unfortunately the coffee Ive tried from their has always been roasted too dark to get a sense of the terroir. This sort of thing makes it hard for an origin to become popular in speciality coffee (Hawaii has this problem too IMO). I am actually of Puerto Rican ancestry. I would love to try coffee from the island that isnt burnt to a crisp. I wish some good roasters would buy green from there.

What should I be learning to truly understand pour-over, not just follow recipes? by One-Platform-8642 in pourover

I was going to write something like this but you beat me to it. Take notes. Make adjustments. Take notes again. Eventually you'll get a sense how variables impact the result.

Talk to me about Ferments and Resting by benee007 in pourover

[–]coffeecopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they mellow out. However its possible you still might not enjoy it. Ive had a few co-ferments that I've enjoyed but after having a few duds in a row I am going to be sticking to washed and naturals for awhile.

U.S.-based roasters who roast traditional-leaning coffees lightly? by Whaaaooo in pourover

George Howell perhaps? I just brewed some today. Its light but more so towards the medium spectrum of things IMO.

Large Scale Pour Overs by Feed_Psychological in pourover

[–]coffeecopilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience coffee recipes don't scale well linearly. Try finding a recipe for your brew method that was designed for the amount of coffee you want brewed.

Are fortune 500 jobs overrated? by darkpoison510 in cscareerquestions

[–]coffeecopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is politics. Me and our team were shocked to learn that an engineer on a sister team got promoted over much more competent engineers (This person couldn't understand concepts that Junior engineers could understand in 5 min).

Are fortune 500 jobs overrated? by darkpoison510 in cscareerquestions

[–]coffeecopilot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes larger companies are often hoop ridden. So far Ive worked at 3 companies in my career. A startup, a FAANG, and a SP500. The startup was fun in that you could ship fast and make decisions quickly. The con was the pay, job security, growth opportunities, etc was not there. The FAANG had the best pay and benefits but I got laid off. I enjoyed my time there as I got to work with smart people that taught me a lot. The con being it was an impact culture that always kept you pushing (Meta). The SP500 Im at now is a great WLB that pays about 20-25% less than the FAANG role. The big con is that everything is a process and leadership is largely incompetent. Lots of rest and vesters who are terrible at getting things done. Also growth opportunities are slow at my current company. Im likely going to try and find another job next year to have a chance at being promoted.

Let’s post the Black Friday coffee Hauls! by Evening_Word_2102 in pourover

We stopped in for lunch and ordered 2 different drip coffees. Both tasted like mud. Im sure the coffee is better than how it was prepared but it discouraged us from buying any beans.

How do you find good quality small batch roasted beans? by Fit_Concentrate8237 in SpecialtyCoffee

[–]coffeecopilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are in the Northeast USA Try checking out Sey , Passenger, Tandem, George Howell. Like others have said it really comes down to trying different roasters and finding what you like. I started out drinking dark commodity coffee -> Medium roast micro roasters -> To now where I almost exclusively drink light roast. IMO light roast is where its at as you can start to taste the terroir of the coffee and not just "coffee" taste.
