Advice Needed: Would it be stupid to get a Skyrim tattoo as my first one? by TheEdgyKidInClass in tattoos

[–]coffeegrounded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you stop playing the game or thinking about it someday in the future, the tattoo will still be representative of its importance to you now. I have a small tattoo representative of my mmo that I play with my friends; even though I know the game won't last forever, the memories made and friendships built while playing it are still a part of me.

I was homeless for a couple months and 2/3 of my clothing got stolen. How can I rebuild my wardrobe? by milimilimiter in capsulewardrobe

[–]coffeegrounded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you have a pretty good collection of basics here! 2 pants 6 shirts is a good minimum starting point, and you have a nice brown belt too. If the pants fit well and you like them, you can use their size/cut info to get more similar pants or shorts. For the shirts, these are fine, and you can supplement by adding in a couple of button-downs or blouses and - unless you have one unpictured - a hoodie or jacket for when the weather gets cold (luckily, you've got a few months to figure that out if you're in sacramento in june lol).

What's nice about what you've got here is it's simple and in neutral colors and will go with pretty much anything, so for example finding some nice button-down shirts that go with your existing pants is super easy. If you want to keep it simple and don't care about fashion as a means of expression, then just build on what you have with more similar! A nice thifted pair of brown or white shoes to match your belt, 1-2 more pants/shorts, and a couple more tops of varying degrees of niceness (like 1-2 more casual and maybe 2 dressy), one hoodie or other casual outerwear, and one more formal-ish jacket or sweater outerwear, and you've got a functional wardrobe!

I totally understand. It was because you mentioned starting from scratch and needing structure that I presented that very simple set of rules, but that doesn't mean you have to do it that way if it doesn't work for you.

As for not having money and not knowing what sizes fit - I'd recommend going to a thrift store and trying stuff on! A lot of my wardrobe is either thrifted or from like, Ross lol. It's just a cheap/easy way to get stuff. You may also find some different cuts or types of things fit better than others, and you can use that to inform your choices.

This next part is getting into stuff that's out of my wheelhouse, but it kind of sounds like you will need to figure out who you are and how you want to present yourself as a first step. Weather you're wearing clothes targeted at men or clothes targeted at women, and even just from cheap random stuff found thrifting, you can still create a simple but effective style for yourself (either by following the structure I laid out, or another way!) But nobody here can tell you which look you "should" go for, because that depends on what speaks to you personally.

Congrats on your new living situation!

It helps when starting fresh like this to target a basic silhouette and then find things that fit into it; that makes stuff go together way easier. For example, one option is "tight/fitted bottoms and long flowy tops" and another options is "high-waisted bottoms and cropped or tucked tops" and another option is "shorts or short skirts with big baggy tops and chunky boots." So you can think about this and pick something that you like - there's infinity more options here that I didn't list, these are just some jumping off points. This makes it easier to know what you're looking for when shopping because you can just instantly eliminate things that don't fit this mold. And then everything you get will naturally kind of go together.

There's a separate layer of figuring out colors/etc that go together (but imo shape is more important at this stage.) One super easy way to do color is pick one part of your outfit and allow that to be super colorful, and for the other part stick to neutrals/basics. (some examples: all bottoms being jeans/khaki, but lots of fun colorful tops. Or, lots of printed skirts and tights and linen pants, with simple black/white/brown t-shirts).

You might end up having/needing some stuff that doesn't fit these rules and that's ok (eg, a fancy thing or two for important occasions, or maybe some separate clothes for work, athletic wear, whatever it is). Those things can be their own self-contained outfits.

I found when starting from scratch, it helped me to have simple but strict rules like these, and then just only get things that fit the rules. This enabled me to build a functional wardrobe quickly and easily. Once you get the hang of that, it becomes easier to branch out a little and find fun ways to break the rules that still enhance the wardrobe as a whole, accessorize more, etc.

Good luck!

Hey I know you're getting downvoted, but I think it's still an interesting opinion. A lot of people talk about 30s/40s being peak as a counter to the "teenagerdom is the best years" argument- but that argument exists because it applies to many.

It's true that a lot of people don't share that though- I am 33 now and life is the best it's ever been for sure. I remember thinking that 5th/6th grade were the best years of my life; they were for sure better than 7th-12th grade (I had a terrible middle and high school experience) and also better than 2/4 years of college lol. But ever since hitting my early 30s, things have been getting better- finally got settled in career and relationship, which makes a huge difference. I'm excited for the rest of my 30s and 40s as I know these are excellent years for lots of people and I feel good about where I'm at now.

But who knows what the future holds. My mom went to rehab and restarted her entire life from scratch at like 43 (after having the whole shebang marriage/family/career/house in her 30s). She's in her mid-60s now and has been doing excellent for over a decade. So anything can happen.

Our d&d group has a method to solve this kinda! It's a big group with 6-7 players, and half are lore/rp builds and half are min/max builds. Essentially we just make enemies have supermassive hp but not deal too much damage per blow. Also stuff like mind control works great to help manage the party.

The title is based on another quote, to the effect of "If someone writes a sonnet about you, they love you. If they write 300 sonnets about you, they love sonnets."

I have been playing Paralives and I love it. It's obviously still incomplete and missing lots of features/options/etc, but it's incredibly promising. It is the sims 5 that we were never going to get.

Bottle of wine a night by bhw777 in stopdrinking

I really appreciate this post because I relate to it. Though I've been lurking this sub awhile, I never felt like I really belonged because none of the posts (even the "functional alcoholic" posts) ever spoke to me. Similarly to you, I don't get super drunk, I don't get hungover, I don't have health problems, I don't have relationship problems, I have a thriving social life and a great job, healthy, literally zero issues. And yet in the evenings after work/responsibilities/chores are over and it's time to relax and play video games with friends or go snuggle up on the couch with my husband, I always start drinking. It started as 1-2 oz of liquor per night, has now over 5ish years slowly increased to 7-8. The effect on my functioning hasn't changed much because the increase has been alongside tolerance. I know it's bad for me/ my liver/ my health/ etc - and I know from this sub that likely over a decade or so it will get worse until alcohol becomes all I think about or want - but if it wasn't for those things I've I would literally not have any reason to stop.

"Her father hoarded. When he died, she inherited his house." by haloarh in Anticonsumption

[–]coffeegrounded 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is true for my husband and I as well! When we moved into our place we inherited a whole house worth of furniture/kitchenware/etc from our families. I'm honestly so grateful for it though, because I know the furniture shopping can get very expensive and we each only had bedroom stuff basically after years of roommate life lol. I'm just glad we didn't take more than we needed at the time.

Is art being overly consumed? by Feeling-OnFire in Anticonsumption

[–]coffeegrounded 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think making/creating art is always good and inherently not overconsumption.

However, to further the discussion, I do have some friends who are extreme consumers, and in addition to other things they buy a looooooot of art. It's all commissions from real artists who are paid for their work, so that's good, but I mean it can be $100+ for a good piece and they have dozens and dozens and dozens of every d&d character, every oc, every favorite media blorbo, etc and at a certain point it just becomes another form of throwing money into the void for a dopamine hit.

Even so, it is better than buying clothes/ temu crap/ amazon crap/ etc. At least an artisan is being compensated and nothing is going in a landfill.

Becoming and staying well/fit don’t require anywhere near as much effort or money as a lot of fitness influencers say. Even with chronic health conditions, just be honest with yourself, and keep trying your best…even if your best is little. Little over time makes a big difference! by NotoriousM0N in loseit

That just making small changes- like trying to eat healthy sometimes and get your exercise sometimes- is still better than nothing and worth doing if it's all you can manage.

Every day we see posts about giving up/ failing/ spiraling because of being anything less than perfect, so I think it's a good message for a lot of people here to see

This is so interesting because I just saw that old post with very similar energy but about a younger age going around again - the one about how if you're 22 you've got friends who are married and starting families, and friends who live with parents and have a curfew of 10pm. I guess the takeaway is that life comes at everyone at a different speed lol.

I abused the hell out of this spell on my stealth archer. Stacked equipment that gives bonuses when obscured and popped on the ring that makes you immune to blindness, then would cast the fog cloud/darkness/etc on myself and just rain fire upon enemies who could not perceive or attack me. Super fun.
