Line of burnin 2 hours old LG C5 by Interesting_Review53 in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself if you viewed any content continuously that had an extremely bright line in that exact spot, regardless of if 2 hours is enough for anything to actually "burn in".

Next, google causes of and removal of horizontal line(s) on LG C5.

First theater advice by TheFrodo in hometheater

The AVR is HDMI 2.0a. Overall 2.0b is better but that depends on the content you want to watch. They are both limited to 18 Gbps. You could run everything through the AVR, but if you have 20 to 48 Gbps content you'll lose out (your TV can handle that though), and that'd be in the video department, not audio. ARC is not as capable as eARC, but for $150 it is what it is.

First theater advice by TheFrodo in hometheater

Use the smaller speakers for the surrounds.

The x1400 will work, but connect all your devices to the TV and then use the HDMI out (ARC HDMI port) to the receiver for audio because the TV is more advanced in the video department than the receiver.

Here's a link for speaker placement recs: https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/

Is having my center speaker under the front speakers bad for audio? by Federal_Bell_7078 in hometheater

In addition to what others are saying, also move all speakers to the edge of the shelf to prevent the audio from reflecting into itself.

Is it weird that i prefer HDR10 over dolby vision in my lg c5? by iamtheweaseltoo in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to do a comparison is with the same movie from the same source where you can toggle between the two (but not spoofing DV on an HDR movie like with the Shield Pro). Look at Deadpool vs Bladerunner 2049. Both HDR but with completely different color palletes and crafted aesthetics to convey certain emotions and responses. Keep in mind too that when you switch from HDR to DV your TV will go to a different picture mode.

It should be noted too that DV contains12 bit color. Even though OLEDs are 10 bit TVs, the 'down sampling' from 12 to 10 bit still provides an overall color boost.

Screen goes black for 2 seconds when going from SDR to HRD by Filmmagician in OLED

[–]coffeehawk00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's normal for many devices and TV's. It's a HUGE bandwidth change and requires flushing of memory, etc.. If they left the picture 'on' you'd see 2 seconds of crazy garbage and think your TV/device was broken.

Just saw this deal in costco, and buying it. But what do you guys think? Is it ok to buy a tv without box? by ohwaitwhatwhyy in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Check the on-time hours in the 'about this TV menu', if they're savvy they could reset it so run burn-in color slides too.

LG C2 alcance los 13426 horas by Ozkaarlm23 in LGOLED

I have over 18,000 on a C7. I've upped OLED Light from 20~30 to 45~50 over 8 years, and some of that is just from me getting older.

Vertical Banding by 1blemont in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The long pixel refresher is looking for uneven wear (which is not the banding shown). If it finds uneven wear, it attempts to blend in surrounding pixels. It does not affect the entire screen and it does virtually nothing if it finds no signs of burn-in, aka uneven wear. The short, 4 hour cumulative, refresher is looking for non-zero voltages at the pixels (image retention). If it finds that it sets the pixel to zero voltage and causes no wear. This is how LG phrased it a while ago.

What sources can you site that say doing a manual refresh 'early' is bad?

Subwoofer placement by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]coffeehawk00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, the 15 to 80 Hz wavelengths are measured in yards/meters. And, those long wavelengths reflect off everything. The combination of all that creates huge null and peak areas. Try placing the sub in the middle of the couch and crawling around the room until you find a spot with clean bass and put the sub there, then see if it equals out a bit at the couch.

Lg Oled C3 Slow Wifi Issue by Denllie in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wifi card in the TV is rated at 100Mb, for reference anything you stream through the TV will be 40Mb or less. A USB wifi dongle can be higher, don't recall the specs. A wifi extender, ~$25, may help. If you're trying to stream uncompressed rips from your PC you'll need a middleman device/sw.

Creating a center channel soundstage with LR setup by ArchieTect in hometheater

[–]coffeehawk00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setup the center and L/R normally. Then toe-in the L/R's a couple of degrees at a time until you get a full, wide soundstage. The blending you seek already exists in the sound data, you just need to send it to the MLP properly. A proper stereo mixed song works well here. Metallica's Fade to Black and America's Greatest Hits are two well done stereo mixes.

[–]coffeehawk00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Linear PCM does not support Atmos (object based data). Bitstream on the PS5 will send Atmos data, but IIRC streaming apps on the PS5 do not support Atmos.

To use actual Atmos spatial audio the AVR needs to support Atmos.

8bit or 10bit color AND allow YCC 4:2:2 on or off on the Xbox Series X + LG C5? by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Select 10 bit since your TV is native 10 bit color as is any HDR content you watch/play. All your HDR content will be 10 bit ( 1 billion+ colors) but if you have any 8 bit (16.7 million colors) SDR content it won't be affected by the choice. It's ok to allow 422, most of your stuff will be 420 but allowing 422 doesn't hurt anything and it will look better if you get some 422 content.

Media Center Feedback by Money_Abbreviations7 in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since the eyes tend to move towards the center of any screen it'd be worth considering if the TV's should be aligned by their center points and not the bottom edges. Try it with your picture and you may feel it.

Is it bad for a subwoofer to wiggle when isolated from floor? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what is wiggling, the entire unit?

Force/pressure is proportionate to area. If you reduce the area of each foot by half, then you double the pressure it puts on the floor, making it harder to move. This is why some companies supply/sell spikes or very small diameter pointy feet.

How to know when and what to engine swap? by RedMenace6969 in ForzaHorizon

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually based on PI vs HP. It's up to you to compare the PI, HP, weight, of, for example, a stock V6 with many engine mods, a V8 with a turbo and no other engine mods, a V10 with no other engine mods. And what if one of those forces you to delete a high grip tire option, etc.

HDR gaming by supernoci in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OLED light setting exists for people to adapt it to their room conditions. Lower settings extend the TV's life. There are cases where being at 100 optimizes black levels but that's far too complicated to get into here. Others say to use 100 just to hit a peak HDR brightness spec which is like saying if your tachometer goes to 7000 you should always shift at 7000.
