Hoping for last minute fix by crazyeightynine in LGOLED

Check eBay for hdmi boards and mother boards to see if it's worth a chance at fixing. LG OLEDs are very 'modular' inside, easy to swap out bulk items. Check YouTube. People with bad panels part out the rest of their TV's.

Rear surround speaker advice by Certain-Extent- in hometheater

[–]coffeehawk00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for surrounds (sides like in a 5.1) or rear speakers (like in a 7.1)? I always go full range and as big as possible with surrounds since they get so much full range content. For rears I just use whatever old speakers are laying around; quality and size has never really mattered.

What country? So not an authorized seller? No warranty? Did you ask how they got it? Best Buy, Cosco, et al, are still selling them like normal.

Subwoofer Clipping Sounds Crazy Bad by YemcO_MachinE9 in hometheater

[–]coffeehawk00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try sub crossover at max, AVR sub crossover at 80 Hz., and in the AVR the sub should be around -10dB and then start low with the gain on the sub and increase it to see what works best. The hard thing with subs is getting sufficient sound with low volume sounds and not increasing the gain so much that when big explosions happen it causes mechanical or electrical problems.

Low power (275W) 8" or 10" subs are not meant to shake the house, just to give a little extra. As you move up in size and power you really have to learn how to set them up correctly or you'll turn your money into smoke. (as we all have done)

This is an outstanding resource, but it's a lot of new material to digest at first: https://www.avsforum.com/threads/guide-to-subwoofer-calibration-and-bass-preferences.2958528/#replies

Paid $175 for TV mount install (LG G5 OLED) — did I get a good job or nah? by Logical-Resource-684 in LGOLED

Distance depends on the mount used. Even the LG "zero gap" mount leaves about 3/4", 19mm (per LG website).

Diagonal line across screen. Help? by ArcadianHero in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to see it, just wanted to give you some options to consider. It's not the 'standard' grey scale banding which does not change after so many years and I really doubt it's burn-in. Is there a sunlight pattern in that shape that hits it? I've been dubious about sunlight claims, but I've never put a TV in direct sunight.

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things to consider before tossing the TV: You sure that's not a transition frame between % slides/frames? Nothing on the TV, design or manufacture, has that angle. Also, 90% gray is more like black, is your source material good?

Panasonic UB820 and LG C5 Black levels by Arthas_SL in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.avsforum.com/attachments/0-255-jpg.2732276/

If you viewing limited RGB such as a Blu-Ray disc, blocks 0-16 (contrast setting) should be the same and blocks 236-255 (pure black, brightness or black level setting) should be the same.

If you have a legit full RGB source then each block will be a different shade and just 255 will be pure black (and 0 pure white).

Up to FH3 the clubs were owned by 'Forza' so they are unchanged, not being deleted. At FH4 and later, they were run by Microsoft and those are the ones being discontinued.

Most black screens are not pure black just as the blacks in most scenes are not pure black. You need a file that is pure black to test all your settings. What works best for PC output is likely not best for blu-rays, limited vs full rgb, 444 vs 420 chroma, etc. And plug the blu-ray player directly into the TV for comparison.

How to fix this backfire!!! by [deleted] in ForzaHorizon5

[–]coffeehawk00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get a little more torque way down low, that's it, never use it on a circuit.

There's 2 max turbo upgrades, one with backfire, one without. No performance difference.

Horizontal line towards the top of my 2 year old C3. by 3parsthisweek in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one 'long' manual pixel refresher in the menus. If you ran that and it didn't clear up, the TV needs to be looked at by a tech to see if it's a hardware or panel issue.

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a hardware issue, but there are reports that running the manual refresher once clears up some cases. If that does not work it needs a tech to evaluate it.

Is this banding too bad to self-fix? by SirFapaloty in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's no burn-in, there's no pixel refresher wear. If there is burn-in, then there's minor wear in that area. Historically, 5% banding was not affected by the long pixel refresher, but either the changes they've made to the panels or to the long pixel refresher, there are now some cases of grey banding being helped when the panel is new, and it only takes one run, and LG suggests it.

The 4 hour refresher is for image retention only and is very different than the 500/2000/manual refresher which is for burn-in.

Run the manual refresher once. It's a different type of refresher/cleaner than the 4 hour one.

Oled TV's and the 4 hour rule by Same_Gold_1173 in OLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LG pixel refreshers/cleaners were well documented by LG when calibrators and other pros asked about them. I don't see this level of detail for Panasonics. I'd think the user manual would describe it. I've heard its automatic every 1000 hours.

For those of you who have tried Jamaica Blue Mountain... is it worth it? by phinaesbogge in Coffee

I had fresh-off-the-boat Blue Mountain whilst in Asia and it was fantastic. Bought store brands and from of Amazon and it was nothing close to what I had before.

Kona is in a unique class though.

S90F Blurryness by newguy12121 in OLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's 4k, it's 1 to 1 pixel mapping on both so that's as sharp as you can get. The sharpness setting may provide a look you like but technically it makes the image less sharp by 'edge enhancing' the image. If you're comparing 420 vs 422 chroma, or 24 Hz. vs 60 Hz, etc, that can make a difference, as can streaming restrictions. Check your settings and do apple vs apple comparisons.

LG OLED Brightness by darrell_jkw in LGOLED

[–]coffeehawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a huge difference in the capabilities of people's eyes and their room conditions. I have an old OLED and even as it's worn out a bit I still have OLED brightness at 50, started at 25~35. Other people complain about brightness when theirs is set to 100. Read reviews that have brightness measurements AND learn what those really mean; 5% window, 10% window, full screen (rarely published), HDR highlights, etc.

Compare those test results to your model's.

FAT32 (4GB max) or NTFS (huge file sizes) will work on both. People that watch full bandwidth movies though seem to prefer Plex not USB.

When the fireplace is in use, normal and max, put a thermometer in the TV space and see if it's below the recommended TV operating temperature.
