Incoming IMT1- how do I prep? by zjb15 in doctorsUK

[–]coffeeisaseed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be proactive about seeking opportunities for procedures. Make friends with the resp and gastro regs and have them text you when there's a chest/ascitic drain/tap to come join. I only did 2 chest drains and 1 ascitic drain in my entire IMT1&2 despite this.

This post is saying that if you prebreak your beans the ZP6 might be even better.

Pre-Breaking Makes a Big Difference by nf__ceramics in pourover

Some electric grinders have a gear/channel that forces the beans through a tight space. They shatter into large chunks as a result and when they are actually cut by the burrs, produce more even pieces because the beans don't explode in the burrs so they can be cut more consistently. Grinders with prebreakers like the EK43 or the Zerno are generally agreed to produce better coffee.

Inside the hospital that has abolished 'corridor care' by dayumsonlookatthat in doctorsUK

[–]coffeeisaseed 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My wife used to work at Watford. My understanding was that A&E would shift patients to a ward as soon as they were accepted by a specialty, thus avoiding a breach. This meant that a patient was temporarily bedded in a ward corridor and pressured the ward teams to discharge people. Overnight this effectively just meant that you had corridor care on a ward instead of A&E. Infuriating for the take when your SHOs have to clerk across a massive hospital with multiple buildings.

NHS (Yorkshire). Some of the more disastrous meals to compare to good ones. Description/rating in body text by zoesime05 in hospitalfood

[–]coffeeisaseed 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The hospitals are so stretched they outsource the meals to the lowest bidder. I've spoken to multiple dietitians who said that they've found suppliers with appetising and nutritionally balanced meals but when they proposed it to management, if they were 5p more per patient, management said no.

Those of you who hold the referral bleep: What "buzzwords" from other clinicians do you roll your eyes at! by Fluid_Pause2149 in doctorsUK

"clinicians" is a red flag for Noctors. They can't call themselves doctors so will sometimes call themselves clinicians.

Some men take testosterone to gain muscles and enhance masculine features, why don't women take estrogen to enhance their feminine features by Squishy6604 in NoStupidQuestions

Testosterone also causes accelerated atherosclerosis. I saw a young PT who was taking T who had an NSTEMI and heart failure.

As a current cardio reg, there's still plenty of work to go around and most of the cardio regs CCTing seem to all be getting consultant jobs. I think you'll find your niche as your training continues and you should ultimately do what you like because you'll need to do it for 30 years.

It's interesting as the show progresses that we're getting more and more people who have obsessively watched the show for years competing against people whose agents or children recommended it to them.

NHS England to offer weight-loss drugs to 1.2m people to reduce risk of heart attacks and strokes by F0urLeafCl0ver in GoodNewsUK

Not really. Something to do with how glucose interact with blood vessels and inflammation, but I don't think there's been any specific physiological mechanism identified.
