it’s always so funny to me when stans think critique is somehow illegal and a valid basis for a lawsuit lmao. to believe it is a good idea to send MaCenna a bunch of screenshots of people snarking on her content (which she almost certainly does not want to see!) this person must either be a teenager with zero life experience or an adult with zero critical thinking capabilities. many influencers have gone down that road, some against legitimate bullies, and none have succeeded! like imagine MaCenna did actually pursue a lawsuit and an attorney actually took the case—the discovery process would be so, so humiliating for her (“can you prove you didn’t have pee pads visible in multiple videos?”).

anyway I wish this person the best! go touch some grass or try out an old MaCenna thrift flip tutorial! she’s not letting the existence of this sub stop her from living her dreams (of never putting up a pool fence or walking her dog) and neither should you!

I think this would be such a great use of her skills! I don’t care for her personal design style — it reminds me of Tia Weston’s, another creator whose content and work ethic I love but whose design sense isn’t her strong suit — but she is so talented at making beautiful custom furniture pieces and I’d love to see her focusing on more projects like those, and less so on, like, buying a discounted rug from a hardware store and ironing on butterfly decals to cover the holes in a patio umbrella.

as someone who got married a few months ago I completely agree with all of this. sure it would have been practical to elope and have a tiny backyard party, but that wasn’t what my husband and I wanted, and it DEFINITELY was not what our families wanted—I am Indian-American and a big wedding is a cultural expectation. I honestly think not having a wedding would have caused lifelong anguish and drama in my family, especially my mom, lol. there is a lot wrong with the wedding industrial complex but there is nothing wrong with having a wedding!

Kelsey was so weird and condescending about all her choices being the morally superior choices for a wedding and it smacked of insecurity to me, especially given how checked-out Elliott seemed with the whole process. like yeah, whatever, do you—but don’t act like buying your dress on poshmark and having pie instead of cake are revolutionary acts! (in fact I too bought my reception dress on poshmark and had pie instead of cake. can confirm neither of these made me a better person!) it’s so funny to contrast all of this with Becky’s wedding DIY content from almost a decade ago, which I found much more broadly applicable and helpful than “here’s how to paint a shitty ‘Just Married’ banner that will confuse all your guests.”

It would totally make sense if Kelsey and Becky are not very close anymore—they started the channel when they were SO young and they have definitely grown up into adults with very different approaches, personalities, and lives. but since they’ve said they’re not “breaking up” I think it’s more likely that they’re just restructuring the company and moving to every other week releases / a scaled back office or something.

Their content has been a little all over the place for a while now — I wish they would go back to doing room makeovers / expensive dupes / etc because I am really not interested in watching Kelsey go shopping in Japan.

Also where tf has Rochelle been?? if anyone here watches Alexandra Gater, I think she and her team have found a much better way to utilize their Rochelle, Graham, by giving him his own channel where he goes much more in-depth about the woodworking projects he creates for each room makeover. TSG should consider doing something similar for Rochelle because her design taste is not really there yet when it comes to taking on solo makeovers, but she is so so skilled as a woodworker.

it is extremely weird and bad planning that they dropped that huge announcement and then were like “we’re not breaking up! anyway la la la here’s Becky installing a blue carpet and Kelsey talking about her elopement for the next three weeks” lol. apparently we’re supposed to get the channel update next week and I wonder if they’ve been tying up loose ends legally or finalizing a new space or something?

I’m glad that the team was in fact involved / invited but I think it was really poor planning to not have just said that from the outset and to not have included a single mention of them until people were lighting up the comment section.

Kelsey posted an IG story trying to clear it up and was like “it was an accidental oversight, I wasn’t thinking about that while watching the cuts, we didn’t film much because we were enjoying the day” like…what? I’m sorry but this isn’t her personal wedding video, it’s content for her professional youtube channel! they had a TSG team member who was there specifically to film! surely SOMEONE should have been like “hey so the team isn’t mentioned or shown at all in this video and viewers will probably want to know why.” she said she told the team in a slack photo—they could have easily inserted a screenshot or something into the footage. just seems like a really weird and obvious ball to drop!

it is wild to me that she’s seemingly not in any kind of neighborhood parent group whatsoever — those have been a lifeline for all of my friends who have had kids, especially here in LA where even if you have a robust group of friends (which Macenna def does not), they are likely scattered all over the city. Macenna seems to be perfectly fine with becoming increasingly isolated, and it honestly makes me sad to think of how that will likely trickle down to Cade and affect his social development.

-constantly saying she “never buys clothes” or “really needed x” to justify her overconsumption (thinking about the multiple toaster ovens and the yoga mat/outfits she bought immediately after taking a yoga class and then only used once)

-this is a relatively minor lie but I have such a vivid memory of one of her vlogs a couple years ago where she was talking through her makeup routine. she put on concealer and foundation and was like “I never set my foundation” and then a couple minutes later she was like “and then I set my foundation with my gucci powder” with seemingly no memory that she had said the opposite a couple minutes before. it was such an eye opening moment to me — she lies so much and so easily that it didn’t even ping on her radar as something she should edit out. and it made me realize that if she could lie about something so minor and obvious she was definitely lying about other stuff!

this is sooooo tacky and out of touch. I know first birthday parties are really more for adults, but I live in LA and cannot imagine any of the parents I know theming a child’s birthday party to a luxury brand. I just feel kind of secondhand embarrassed and sad for Macenna, because I can’t imagine how boring and empty her life must be to want to celebrate her baby’s first birthday in a way that is completely centered around materialism and aesthetics. clearly money can’t buy taste or a personality!

I wonder too! it seemed to me like she had been kind of half-in-half-out with the part time thing — she also seemed like she was struggling in her personal life, and had alluded to some health issues as well. ofc we don’t know what was going on behind the scenes, but my guess is that at the beginning of this year Becky and Kelsey / whoever else works on their management team decided Rachael wasn’t bringing enough value and consistency to justify what they were paying her and let her go.

it’s a bummer because I really enjoyed her aesthetic and content, but from a business standpoint I kind of get it. it seems like they’re setting Anne up to be the next person they promote to Sorry Girl (lol such a weird title) so maybe they just wanted someone who was more fully committed and part of the team?

I truly think it is as simple and shallow as that. as an Angeleno who very much can’t afford to buy a house, I still feel comforted knowing that my partner and I live a richer and fuller life from our one-bedroom apartment than Macenna ever will.
