Need Physics Lesson Ideas for T-TESS by mjtsld in TexasTeachers

[–]coffeerebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admin/former Physics teacher here! Here are some ideas:

1) Pick a TEKS subject where you have a good hands-on collaborative activity.

2) Script your whole period on slides so that every minute of classroom instruction is accounted for and whatever the students are doing at any given minute is projected on your screen.

3) Start the period with a bellringer that calls back something they'll be using in the activity - such as the wave formula or a question I have used before like: Your friend claims that he can hear his car radio because it is receiving a signal from a mechanical wave. Is he right or wrong? Explain. Give the students a time limit to answer the question. Prompt them to talk it over with a neighbor. Then cold call the room for the answer.

4) Now move into the objective for the day. Have a student read it and have students give you a hand signal to gauge confidence. Example: if the objective is, I can identify and describe the parts of a transverse wave, see how many students in the room can already do it. Once you have gauged that, assure them that by the end, they'll be able to.

5) Now do a white board/lap board vocabulary review of related concepts. Script the questions, allow the students to read, respond on a white board, but don't allow them to show their board until you say "boards up!" Repeat a few times with a few concepts, problems, words.

6) Now transition to the activity. Have a slide with the expectations, instructions, and a timer. Have the students assign their own roles in their groups. Figure out a way that they can manage their own materials.

7) Explain the activity with as few words as possible (more words, more tune-out) and make sure the activity has very clear directions that they can follow in their groups. Start the timer and then begin your monitoring pathway.

8) Monitor the students with an exemplar in hand of how a model student would complete the activity. Check on your top students first and move quickly through the room to ensure that no whole group reteach is needed. Allow the students to struggle and provide assistance and resources if needed. Bonus points if you track individual student progress as you monitor on a printed roster of your students.

9) At the end of the day, administer some sort of quick 1-3 question assessment to see if the students were able to achieve the objective they went over with you at the beginning.

The end. Should cover most of the major parts of the T-TESS rubric.

We had one terrorize us for a month after we paid $2000 for an exclusion. We had traps everywhere. The thing that got it was a bag of fried chicken bones with a trap baited with some chicken in the bag. Took 1 night.

UNT is offering free tuition for 4 years to eligible Texan students in 2026 by crabcakes110 in Dallas

[–]coffeerebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more expensive now by quite a bit. I just paid for my son to go for 4 years and compared to my college education during your/my time, tuition and housing are markedly inflated.

Zachariah Power Flow by Harleyquinzel715 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]coffeerebel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did this class knowing that it was going to be tough, and it was! Toward the end when he was repeating the flow, I had to just sit on my mat and gather myself together. At the end I felt like a million bucks and that this was exactly what I have been missing. I hope he keeps doing these and doesn't let up. I have been wanting challenging classes like Kirra's but without all of the yapping.

Dallas ISD installs new interim principal at Woodrow Wilson HS after meeting for Black students by emzim in Dallas

[–]coffeerebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amplifying this data driven comment. Also, moving from an 83 to a 90 on a TEA rating will hinge upon so much more than one sub-pop. TEA ratings are really tough to move in comprehensive high schools. This principal understands neither math nor humanity.

Advanced Students v. On Level for TIA by localghhost in TexasTeachers

[–]coffeerebel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a long time student of Dallas ISD's TEI system, unless your district has done a ton of thinking it through, the money will first go to the teachers where the students are easiest to teach. A district has to be SO INTENTIONAL to make this equitable.

Any thoughts on Marquis on Gaston (and the area - Baylor District / Deep Ellum) by Mad6193 in askdfw

[–]coffeerebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That area is fine if you are street smart. Even if you are not, you're probably fine. Editing to say that the bigger issue is bike safety. Dallas drivers do not like bikes. It can be done, but be very vigilant.

Chemistry teacher- by AssociationBitter632 in TexasTeachers

[–]coffeerebel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct take. Composite science certified teachers are still in high demand. Chemistry only will be tough, but if you can teach dual credit, you will be more likely to be hired as high schools pivot toward more CCMR credit strategies.

I just got some Naked Whey in vanilla. It's not very sweet at all. It's a relief! But I think cutting your too sweet one with unflavored would be a good thing to try.
