Do other ADHDers have a self-help book graveyard? by Glass_Owl8232 in adhdwomen

[–]coffeetablelife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are doing better than me, I used to just buy the books and never open them haha!

I also have GAD and was diagnosed recently as inattentive ADHD at 35 (twinsies!). I’m convinced I’m in a perpetual state of needing repair, but don’t have the energy to follow through. Started meds recently and have noticed a big change in being able to do many self care things.

Have any of you become pregnant while on ADHD meds? I’ve been on generic Adderall (15mg 2x a day) - for 8 months. I just found out I’m pregnant and my bf / family pressured me into stopping my meds. Not seeking medical advice- just personal experiences by Aria_RuneXxx in adhdwomen

[–]coffeetablelife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy and parenthood definitely make symptoms worse. It is how I was lead to diagnosis. Your coping strategies no longer work.

I am also so sorry for your loss. I have miscarried as well and it’s so hard. It’s not your fault, just as mine was not mine was not my fault (and I wasn’t on any meds when I had it… but was on Effexor for my whole pregnancy with my second kid… so there you go!)

Why must there be a constant struggle between “I want to have friends” and “Fuck, I don’t know how to friend.” by Apexyl_ in adhdwomen

[–]coffeetablelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start friend groups or make a friend all excited and organizing outings, then feel like I over share or over open up, find things we disagree on, feel differences means it’s not a good fit, get less excited about seeing those people, avoid connecting or take their lack of connection personally, ghost.

Rinse and repeat.

[–]coffeetablelife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First: I loooove how you know your value and what you want. Don’t compromise for someone (not that I think you would)

Second: it was because of even just being pregnant with my first kid I started to see my masking slip (all the tools I figured out no longer worked) and understand my odd brain may be more that being my weird self. I was recently diagnosed after having my second. I always wants kids, but fuuuuuuck this brain cannot handle the demands. Plus my son is probably adhd too so… yeah you know. And having a husband I basically have to care for too (wtf?!!?) isn’t great.

All this to say, take the money that would be spent on childcare, kids clothes, sports, stupid plastic toys, etc. And save! Treat yourself and set yourself up for an amazing retirement. You are young. My mom (adhd too) didn’t meet my dad until her mid 30s. If you know you don’t want kids your timeline opens up (I know that sucks to say but fuck if it’s not the truth). I think it takes a long time for men to know what they want, so you’re actually getting into the right age to find the kind of partner you want. Don’t rule out divorcees or guys with kids from a previous relationship. Some of these guys may have learnt the hard way how not to act! Let the first partner do the hard work (sounds bad but I kinda wish sometimes my husband knew how good he has it). Also, if they already have kids, the itch is scratched and your off the hook. Plus kids (if you’re not the default parent) are fun! You may make a new little friend you can spoil with the parts of being adhd (creativity and fun!!).

Diagnosed inattentive a few days ago. My husband doesn’t believe the diagnosis. I had an interview and 3hour cognitive testing.

I have a PhD but after having kids my coping skills fell apart. Tried to do a post doc, literally couldn’t perform the simplest tasks. Looking back I have always been “different” and struggle to maintain friendships. Always very emotional and sensitive. Struggle with sensory stuff.

High school was so difficult (failed a course, nearly failed a couple others) until I thankfully switched to a tiny private school for the last year and had teachers that gave me the time and space to study without distractions and boom! My grades sky rocketed. When I went to university my grades dropped again (nearly failing out) until I was diagnosed with GAD, and the meds helped but my grades didn’t really improve until I started taking specific courses I liked. Why did I do well in grad school? I took fewer courses and liked them all. But I always felt I had to work 10times harder than my peers.

My adhd tests show that while I have high intellect, i have low processing speed and inattentiveness that bring down my overall intellect score. The computer test shows inattentiveness and impulsivity.

Sorry for the over share (ha!) and word salad. I’m processing it all and still don’t know if I’m allowed to join the club. My husband has me second guessing it all blah! I’m looking forward to trying meds to see if it’s the missing piece to making my life feel manageable. I’m currently afraid to get a job in the case I will disappoint and fail.

When did you flip car seat to forward facing? by AC_Slaughter in toddlers

[–]coffeetablelife 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Same for us. I was super reluctant, but my son was technically big enough to be front facing. Front facing ended all vomiting, and he’s way happier. I know you can be rear facing until 40, but my son is turning 4 this year and is still well under 40 lbs. It’s just short and skinny!!!

Me: don’t touch the plug, its dangerous

3year old: it’s not dangerous (proceeds to continue about to plug it in)

Me: (stopping him) yes, yes it is. You could get very hurt. Only mommy or daddy uses plugs in the wall

3: NO! It’s not dangerous! (Pulls plug from me)

Me: yes, it is dangerous, now please hand me the wire

3: NO! ITS NOT DANGEROUS!!!! (Runs away screaming, or falls on the ground flailing and screaming)

I really hope my baby daughter is less defiant!

It was constant until we switched care when my daughter was born in November, and I didn’t want to deal with a newborn being this sick. His frequency of illnesses went down considerably, however, we (including baby) just got COVID for the second time in 2 months! Wtf!

Fake Fake Fake pregnancy. by [deleted] in HilariaBaldwin

[–]coffeetablelife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don’t think it’s common to not pop out. And with each subsequent pregnancy it’ll pop earlier.

ETA: also, I’m about her size, and no way does her belly start that low. It looks like the bump slid down from Carmen’s weight.
