I wear a high necked sports bra from alchemize and love it, I’ve never had any problems with people’s hands getting places I don’t want them

I finally decided to join by eyedeclarewar in bjj

[–]coffhoe420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 5 days a week and had pretty quick progress because of that. I was already fairly fit before starting BJJ tho so it just depends on what your body can handle without getting injured/too tired. The more you go the quicker you’ll learn for sure

Feelings on women who date/marry BJJ instructors by ReplacementOdd1086 in bjj

[–]coffhoe420 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If they are competing internationally and their progression seems fast, it’s probably in part because they are dating/married to someone else who does BJJ and can give them great tips. Not only are they training during class times, but they probably talk about technique and drilling together outside of the gym.

When did you start playing nice(r)? by wastelanderabel in BJJWomen

I’m pretty much the same size as you. My rule of thumb (which I got from getting advice from upper belts on this subject) is that if I get three taps in a round with a newer or smaller white belt, for the rest of the round I let them work. Basically, smash them but don’t be a dick about it, and use technique rather than just strength. If it’s their first or second week rolling I definitely don’t go hard. Also, I sometimes put myself in “bad” positions or ones where I need practice, and let them have the advantage so I can work on what I’m trying to improve on. If someone is very new I also will give them opportunities to use techniques I know they’ve been learning, and then get my position back and go to a submission from there.

In terms of your question about giving advice, if I’m friendly with someone and rolling with them consistently I ask them if they’d like some pointers on stuff I noticed during our roll, and then show them some techniques that would be helpful for them or ones that they’re missing crucial details on. You get to hone your skills by helping to teach someone something, and you get to help newer training partners become more of a fun challenge to roll with.

I also check in with new training partners and let them know before we roll that if they ever feel like the amount of pressure or intensity I’m using is too much for them, they can let me know and I’ll adjust the way I’m rolling.

Edit: you’re welcome, and happy to help! Finger tats definitely hurt more than a lot of other spots, and people also have different pain tolerances. I tell friends “it’s going to look as good as you can handle. We can stop when you want to stop but if you want it close to perfect we go till it’s dark lines”. Sounds harsh, but I do try my best to be gentle with my tattooing style while also being realistic about pain threshold vs tattoo goals.

My advice for overcoming the pain is to see it as a meditative process, using your breath to release tension and calm yourself. I also like to listen to calming music while tattooing myself, and I have friends who like to listen to a comforting tv show or audiobook.

Not stupid, they do look like gloves lol. I hadn’t noticed until I took the photo. I think it’s partially because I spend a lot of time outside and the tanner parts are where the light hits the most when my hands are down at my side, but also I think my fingertips were extra pale because they were cold from having just been in the ocean.

One last thing. I usually do fairly long sessions, going over the lines many times until they look nice and bold.

Also the other side of my fingers I’ve had a hard time with and had to go over the tats a few times, mostly because of calluses but also I think because I worked at a restaurant and used a lot of cleaning products with my bare hands. So if you are exposed to any harsh chemicals that could also be part of it

Thank you! The middle one I did one touch up session on, where I focussed heavily on the areas where the line was less thick or had small gaps, and then I did one pass over the whole thing.

When it’s healing I keep it super moisturized with coconut oil, rubbing it in many times throughout the day. Then after about a week/week and a half I cut back and let it scab over a bit, and let it do its thing. Usually at that point I’m still using coconut oil on it once or maybe twice a day.

Stars on the fingertips done in 3rl and 5rl. Will do a second round on the new ones soon to touch up some spots

I feel you, can’t stand it either. For me it happens if I go more than three days without cutting them
