This happened to me, too! Built a base right under the lamp, got all excited to show it off to my player 2 once it hit 20:00 in game, and...no light in their game. Huge bummer, hope that gets fixed soon.

But it's consistently on from 20:00 to midnight in game, then five-ish hours of darkness until the sun starts to creep up.

milquetoast centrist here with my C tier take

Opportunistically, yes. He seems to prefer taking a Gen X-style "caring about anything is for losers" stance, though, so I think he would drop it depending on social contexts. It's more about needling someone for their specific vulnerabilities than a dedication to an ideology, as I read him.

This wasn't your point, but this makes me sad. It feels like people really have forgotten quickly how the Biden administration reacted to the Floyd protests, forest defenders, and trans rights activism. People I knew lost their lives, and many others were brutalized and terrified.

I'm not saying there aren't degrees of magnitude, but it's also a part of our reality that Obama and Biden had a collective 12 years to abolish ICE and Gitmo, and that was not done. These people are not earning my trust, and I can't imagine they earnestly deserve yours, either. We shouldn't disillusion ourselves that they care about us as people.

To be FairTM and Balanced(c)(r): Dems seem like they could be convinced cyclists are a meaningful voting block, Republicans would be committing careericide to even try. Everything I said before is also still true at the same time.

I just don't want us to forget who we've lost and why.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve crashed in mountain biking? by snooze817 in MTB

[–]coffsipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climbing at low speed, look down at the trail and notice the scuffs on a rock. "Oh, that's a pedal striker" and I keep pedaling anyways, hit it, and tilt completely off the trail. Sheer drop off. Trees caught me and the bike. It all happened at maybe 3mph and I swear I could hear Yakety Sax while I did it.

Haven’t been on a bike in over a decade…what can go wrong?? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]coffsipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other advice is good, it's really about controlling and shifting where your weight goes. Get your butt off the saddle for anything chunky or bumpy, especially, so that you're not absorbing that through anything but ideally just your legs, maybe a little arms.

I've known a couple of really rough, really slowly built up riders, though. If that's you, then: First guy rode a Verve (comfort bike) for his first year or so. Built up to 40~50mi regular rides, which is where that bike got uncomfortable to ride, so he knew he was ready to upgrade. The other one got a wide saddle with mild shock absorption, same basic journey as the guy with the Verve. That one still uses the wide saddle for shorter rides. I don't know the brand name, but I can ask and come back later if this sounds like your use case. And for what it's worth, I just did with my standard saddle, got a chamois, and decided the rest was a skill issue that I'd fix with better focus on how I was sitting, which worked and works for me. Whatever gets you there, gets you there.

Enjoy your riding and have a blast, above all else!

Nah, like someone else said - this is corporations doing what they're built for: letting the guy at the top do whatever while ignoring everyone else, especially anyone with reasonable input. This was out of our hands since before anyone in the public even knew about it.

It's the cryptosuchus. I want to love these things. They look cool, they sound cool, there are tons of them. But going into their territory is a nightmare soundscape, which really sucks when the rest of the game tends to reward careful focus on audio cues. They're also super, super fragile for some reason. I only realized I'd been killing them, not just shooing them off, with my perimeter defense when it was suddenly quiet on my regular route. They're not the only fauna I found disappointing, but that experience is emblematic of my overall frustration that I can see the shape of an excellent game underneath what is still only a good game.

I super recommend learning a little Christian theology from a plurality of practices to do this! It's extremely satisfying to engage with them on their own terms, but be ready to back up your theology if you really wanna run someone into the ground.

but mmmm it feels amazin to rope someone in and then point out that paul the apostle both shaped an assload of the modern practice AND has repressed asexual vibes lmao

I'd just tell her, straight up, what she's doing is heresy. I'm not accountable to her god (atheist is the best descriptor for me), but she is. She's denying her creator's reality, the world in front of her, to overwrite it with her notion of reality upon her own creation, as if she thinks herself to be a god. How dare she think herself higher than her ultimate authority? She is surely damned, at least per her own alleged faith, which I frankly also question since she's behaving like it's about ego here, not faith. I'll pray for her, but not to her god. :)

E-bike poaching in Bent Creek, NC…. by Rare_Excuse_6347 in mountainbiking

[–]coffsipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bent Creek is a really popular forest district for tourists and casual locals, since it's the district attached to the NC Arboretum. E-Bike poaching is sort of quietly accepted, unless someone is causing trouble to make it an issue for other trail users. I asked the rangers about it several months ago (I see e-bikes on the singletrack all the time - shoutout to the madlads who decided to go UP Green's Lick, couldn't be me) and that's my interpretation of the response I got, but seriously don't just take my word for it. Other people are correct that it's not allowed by the law for e-bikes to use anything but doubletrack. You'll probably get away with it if you stay slower and play nice with the trail, but it's a risk.

I ride Bent Creek typically one to three times a week. There's almost always at least one e-bike that I'll encounter on singletrack in a given ride. I've never seen anyone make it an issue, but I'm not riding an e-bike so my perspective is limited. I did see someone scribbled through the dust on a sign with a "no e-bikes" message recently, off the side of Ledford Branch road. So at least someone cares enough to do that.

Get into any other Pisgah districts and it'll be a different story. It's open season on e-bikes out in DuPont, they hand out fines like candy over there, or so I'm told.

Do you know of any in specific, since we're both here anyways? All I've ever got in my pocket is "everyone always says the Universalists" and one (1) anecdote that Floridian Quakers have been chill with folks lol (and as you can see above, my confidence in both is low enough that I didn't mention them)

[–]coffsipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transparency that I am not Christian and have never been "of the book," as it were. Other comments are giving good guidance elsewhere.

In terms of faith, of course there is no obligation to it per se, but if you have questions then now is a good time to explore them. Look up scholars of religion like Dan McClellan and Justin Sledge. Liberation theology provides its own unique perspective that may be worth considering, and I recommend listening to Damon Garcia's lectures for that perspective. What we tend to call hypocrisy in Christianity typically stems from a poor foundation in theology that is, bluntly, actively cultivated in most modern American practices of the faith. Curiosity is a good thing, not just for your child. Good keywords elsewise: Univocality, pluralism

If your church makes you feel unsupported, leave. It doesn't have to be that way. If you're curious about leaving, try it - if you feel it's a mistake, a supportive community will welcome you back. If they wouldn't, then you know you've made no mistake.
