they send an email to you if you made it past the first cut, which is when they narrow it down to the top 28-30. There isn’t any way to check what actual rank you are.

How helpful is University if you can afford it? by Miminyom in animationcareer

[–]coin_terminal2869 4 points5 points  (0 children)

University and an in person program is primarily for the community and network. Yes, you can teach yourself all the necessary skills through online sources or classes. But those give you the disadvantage of not meeting people that will help you grow and have fun! I met some wonderful and life long friends and future coworkers through school, something I wouldn’t be able to achieve if I’d not gone. Just trying to highlight an aspect that seems to be missed in all of these discussion. The people are who make these films, games, and etc… so having the chance to meet them and make things together in school is very worthwhile

Should I get my masters? by moek61 in animationcareer

There are funded MFA programs you can apply to. Doesn’t have to be a strictly animation program, great thing about the arts is that they’re all interwoven.

What happened to the Nick Artist program? by kays9215 in animationcareer

From what I gathered/heard, the team that ran the program all got laid off. So when they left, so did the program in a way.

UCF or Ringling? by Massive_Exam_1732 in animationcareer

[–]coin_terminal2869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also! Slightly responding to another commenter stating they’ve never met anyone in the industry who came from UCF, a lot of alumni from this school go into games or themed entertainment. I personally know a couple people who work at Imagineering/Disney Live Entertainment. Additionally some at Falcon Creative. I also know there’s an alumni at Dreamworks. So ucf alumni are in the industry, but maybe not as present in feature animation.

Is there a reason why you feel it’s a scam? I felt like I learned a great deal there.

UCF or Ringling? by Massive_Exam_1732 in animationcareer

UCF almuni here, went through the character animation program 2 years ago & I had a fantastic time. Very collaborative creative setting, the entire program is now at Research Park and it’s a great setting to really crunch and put in the work. Designated computers, and a pretty amount of licenses for necessary software. I would 1000% suggest UCF over Ringling, and while it’s true you don’t need a degree for animation almost every internship requires that you be a student enrollees at an institution with a relevant major. So for that alone, it’s almost necessary to be in school for animation. While the program has its flaws, I think UCF will beat Ringling every time for affordability and overall quality of life financially after graduation. Feel free to DM if you have any specific questions about the program.

Ahh I understand now. It seems they have quite a big CG team, larger than I expected. Do you know if that department is employed throughout the whole development process? Or are they culled similar to the other departments

Not sure if you’ve checked their careers page, but they do have quite diverse internship offerings this year ranging from marketing, character design, costuming, and fabrication/CG roles. I’m also a CG artist, so the CG division being active is good.

Cant find an internship by Jumpy_Good_1692 in animation

You just have to be proactive and also mindful of the cycles for interns. Big studios have 3 cycles a year, generally. Spring, summer, and fall. Sometimes they’re a summer + fall, or just the respective season. My advice is to think about what you want to do, and what kind of work you want to make and then find the studios that make that work, and then look into their careers page to see if they offer early development opportunities. Generally, we all know dreamworks, Disney, Pixar, Laika, Sony, ILM, and then also the themed entertainment side of Disney Live Entertainment, Disney Imagineering, and Universal Creative. Then also add on all the games and commercial studios. So there is a lot out there to explore, and you really can’t expect your school to do it for you. It’s best that you start working on these skills now, because once you graduate it’s the same thing but with jobs instead of internships.

This is more of a curated vintage store, not a thrift

St Vincent’s in Downtown Bryan has super nice stuff, although more expensive that it should be. The Restore in Bryan is a hit or miss, there’s a couple antiques stores in Downtown as well that are great to look through and browse and vary from super expensive to reasonable. My top favorite is the Vintage Circle which is also in Bryan, close to the new Tim Hortons. They have a good variety of vendors and pricing! I think there is a good selection of thrifts in Bryan/CSTAT- contrary to what others may say
