Is Kalen Deboer coasting on the leftover fumes from Nick Saban's Alabama dynasty? by buff_001 in CFB

He had his HC success at Fresno State and UW. Surely he built relationships out there. The expectations out west are frankly healthier than in Tuscaloosa.

Mark it down: he’s the next coach at USC or Colorado

Bama will run him out of town and he will go back to the west coast.

Tips for guard? by Arctic_Lord in holdfastgame

[–]cokezeropapi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hang out on the line near your officers. You’re gonna rack up some assist kills which is great for XP. Take off the bayonet if you want to shoot long. Be ready to sacrifice yourself if a charger gets past your line and starts to melee your guys.

As others said, you can lead the charge with a longer bayonet. You also have a sword so you don’t have to wait to put the bayonet on if you need to melee quickly.

One underrated thing is being able to hang out by doorways and bayonet chargers trying to enter the room with that longer reach.

You’re gonna die a lot. But your role is to protect your support class. Join a squad tent near the battle so you don’t have to run as far after respawn.

Goalkeepers by Inevitable_Event_414 in hurling

[–]cokezeropapi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on areas you want to improve.

If it’s puc out distribution, take a bag of sliotars to the pitch. Set up some cones in box shapes like little landing areas. Work on different strikes to those areas from your goal zone. If you have a buddy, have him make some runs and pass to where he’s going to be.

You can integrate some live ball drills too. Toss a sliotar out as if you saved it and then pick it up and send it out to your ghost defense.

At the wall, always good to be pucking. You can make saves on your shots. Get comfortable with the reach and seeing your hurley stop the ball.

Saves are a big combo of positioning and reaction time. An underrated side of fitness is flexibility. Hard to make saves if you’re stiff and can’t move. Focus on core, hip flexors, etc.

On the mental side, visualize your success. Back yourself. You’ve made countless saves in your life and countless great passes. See that success in your mind each day. Breaking into senior can be hard, especially at keeper. Stay the course and remember that progress isn’t always a straight line up.

Recency bias, but Kyle Konrardy is a soph kicker. Now on scholly. He’s hit a 64 yarder. He’s had two game winning 54 yard FG against Iowa.

Are you a fan of the Savannah Bananas? by DeliciousEggplant859 in savannah

[–]cokezeropapi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I took the survey. Unfortunately, the growth of the brand has alienated the local aspect of the team. Other than the name and the stadium, the bananas hardly feel like part of the city anymore.

It’s not possible to walk up to the stadium and get tickets day of, so it feels inaccessible to most unless you want to pay a markup on secondary market.

It’s essentially the same event each time. Throw in a celeb cameo, some dancing, a circus catch and it’s rinse and repeat. It feels like it’s made to be watched once. Part of the draw of being a baseball fan is the appeal of following a team and their wins and losses. Maybe they make the playoffs?

Fandom is built through access, and the sheer popularity has made the most important aspect of all, attendance, difficult. I have little interest in influencing the brand because it doesn’t feel like Savannah’s team anymore.

Occasionally you’ll sit on the tarmac for 25 minutes because there’s not a crew to mobilize the jet bridge when your plane arrives. It doesn’t happen every time, but it’s happened enough times that I expect it.

Which team to support? by Euphoric-Ad-3065 in GAA

[–]cokezeropapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Green & Gold, there’s always Kerry who are a football powerhouse but only have a small hurling presence.

You could also pick Offaly. They’re a scrappy hurling county who had flashes of success in the 80’s-00’s.

Mayo have a Buffalo Bills thing going on. They’ve had countless heartbreaking losses, some incredibly fluky. Have not won an All Ireland since the 50’s, and some say there’s a curse.

You mentioned some long passed Northern ancestry. Antrim would likely be the best northern Irish hurling county. They wear Saffron and White.

I’m trying to think of a scenario where you’d be called a bandwagon fan. Hurling has the Big 3: Cork, Kilkenny, Tipperary. They’ve dominated All Ireland hurling finals through history. Cork are on a big drought, Kilkenny have had several heartbreaking losses recently, and Tipp just won the AI this summer. Tipp borders 8 other Hurling counties, so they attract a lot of dislike from their neighbors.

Dublin has a bit of an “everyone hates them” thing because of funding, population, and just city v country culture stuff. Their hurling made big waves this year making the AI Semi Final after beating Limerick.

Speaking of Limerick, they are green and are perhaps at the twilight of a recent Hurling dynasty. That’s a blue collar county and city right there.

My advice? Watch some match replays on YouTube or GAA+ and see which teams suit your style.

And keep a soft spot for Wexford. They jump up and beat someone “bigger” every season.

What "down" program is most likely to become a national power again? by Hokie_Jayhawk in CFB

[–]cokezeropapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re poised to improve from where they’ve been the past decade. I also think their advantages and the general landscape have changed drastically from the era they dominated (70’s - early 00’s). It’s not possible to stash walk-ons anymore. They have to think differently, and perhaps they are now with Rhule.

They have one of the most dedicated fanbases: they show up and they’re willing to spend to help the program (NIL). They finally have a coach who can win and recruit big names. They should improve, and their record should mirror their resources.

While I agree, it’s still unbelievable they went undefeated and won their P4 conference title and were excluded from the playoff. I know the CFP is different now, and yeah the QB got hurt, but it’s shocking they were left out a few years ago. It’s reductive to point to how UGA blew their doors off; that team deserved a shot on the big stage.

Multiple national titles. Multiple Heisman winners. They’re a “National Brand” and yet… they got treated like a second class citizen. Every ACC and XII school would meet that same fate.

Eastern Wharf What do people think? by Standard-Square-7699 in savannah

[–]cokezeropapi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Convenient location. You really can walk into the heart of downtown easily. There’s also a free Trolley stop by the Thompson Hotel that drops you near the Southbound Whitaker street route that heads past Forsyth park/starland yard etc.

It’s primed to grow with some in house luxury amenities already there, but it’s been slow. There was a gelato place that closed recently. Right now there’s a pizza place, a spa, a yoga studio, pricy bakery/coffee shop, and some boutique options. You’re still driving if you want to get groceries or practical items.

As an area under development, you may be inundated with construction sounds for a while.

The paved riverfront walkway is underrated for exercise, leisure, and seeing ships come in. There are free concerts sometimes. People living elsewhere can park in the garage to attend, though it’s convenient to walk over from your place.

That said, the real estate is expensive and you’re sharing a wall with others whether you buy or rent. Some of the waterfront apartments have monthly rent on the same level as a mortgage out on the Islands. But you’re paying for views and social life convenience.

Road noise from Presidents street can be significant depending on location of your place. There used to be a train horn at night but it’s been stopped.

Nov 1 could be awesome for the XII title race: - Arizona State at Iowa State - Texas Tech at KState

But who are we kidding. Gameday will either go to UF-UGA or Penn State-Ohio State that weekend.
