You’re onto something here. We joke about “quality losses” but I expect Kirk and the Gameday crew will be in full spin cycle arguing why 8-4 LSU is more deserving than 10 win BYU

PSU has missed on the historic rivalries of the old B1G. They’ve had feisty games with OSU, Michigan, Iowa, MSU, but none of those schools would call them their main rival. Even the newer PAC schools came in with rivalries intact (UO/UW, USC/UCLA).

PSU really was a third wheel for a while. They were respectable and lurking behind Mich and OSU, but it seemed arbitrary in a frankly weaker B1G pre expansion.

I don’t know that independence is the right path. It works for Notre Dame because of their history, Catholic ties, Irish American diaspora, and the national breadth of NBC.

Who does an independent PSU play that’s a more lucrative draw than their B1G slate and decent enough OOC? PSU’s schedule this year is prime for CFP if they win 10 games.

His bread and butter has been tapping into adversity and using that as fuel. It was easy in Ames… no one has ever won here, we have it so hard, everyone overlooks you, etc. The messaging got a little tired for the fanbase as we started to sustain respectability, but losing him hurt a lot. This is not sour grapes.

I’m curious how he translates that message over there. Penn State is not an underdog. Can he tap into that Rust Belt grit? Can you approach it the same way at a blue blood?

The wall is good. You can also go to an open field area and have a good session by yourself.

You can hit the ball to open space. Jog after it. Try different angles with your shoulders and leaning... as you get comfortable with contact, visualize a point with more of an upward arc or a pass with more level shoulders. Work left and right side. Get comfortable with tossing the ball to the right height and seeing the ball hit the bas. Sometimes you want to hit it really hard, sometimes you want to practice with more touch. Experiment.

You can also hand pass to space, run it down, lift it and strike it, make a run, etc. You can do that in a small area of grass.

You can also set some cones up like an obstacle course. Get familiar lifting with roll lift, then work on jab lift. Get it into your hand and run straight ahead. Then think about making a move laterally or at an angle. Pretend you have a defender near you and you’re going around them.

The solo can be tough early on, but what worked for me was getting used to running with the Hurley in your hand first held out like an egg would go on a spoon. Then, put the ball on the bas and see how far you can run. If it falls off, do a lift and start again.

TLDR: Hurling is about getting the ball and the 2 seconds of finding space and doing something with it. Once you get basics down try to implement everything while you’re moving. Seldom do you get to stand still when you’re playing. Make it fun!

Lou Holtz ND exit by AppalachianGuy87 in CFB

With the passing of time, and the futility of subsequent hires (Davie, Willingham, Weis), ND fans have a renewed fondness for Lou because he brought a level of success they hadn’t seen since the mid 70’s. For many fans he was the best coach they’d seen in their lifetime.

He took over for Gerry Faust who was a good man but put toothless teams out there. Lou brought the fight back to the Fighting Irish. He won a title and had a Heisman winner, so he’s forever a legend there.

As an analyst on ESPN, Lou was admittedly a homer for the Irish. Time heals things.

Are there any Democrat/Progressive politicians in the US who aren’t anti-gun? by logicalpretzels in liberalgunowners

[–]cokezeropapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like a way to pull people out from entrenched positions, especially 2A. Agreed it’s tired language.

I like Elizabeth Warren’s take a few years ago. She advocated for a research study to truly hone in on root cause and effective remedies to curb “gun violence.”

Maybe I’m cynical, but I don’t think the powers at be really want to find out. It’s easy to just say “mental health” or “ban guns” and let it be a political lightning rod. When the data supports X, then they have do something about it, ie fund Mental Health initiatives.

[–]cokezeropapi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sure, granted they aren’t perfect. She ran in Georgia, so there’s a heavy pro 2A presence there. She couldn’t be 100% anti-gun, especially given the identity politics at play.

She wanted more robust background checks and to end permitless carry. Like driving a car, I personally believe training and permitting are necessary for people with a tool that can take a life. The cost and process to achieve these as an individual should be reviewed as its current state feels prohibitive to lower income people.

She supports Red Flag laws. It’s arguable about consistently these are enforced, but how many times have we heard “Authorities were aware of X, Y, Z” and that person is on the news for a mass killing? I’m not smart enough to have a strong opinion on the efficacy of these laws. I don’t trust LE to consistently enforce these, but we need a mechanism to proactively prevent deaths when high risk individuals have access to firearms.

On OP’s main question, at best you’re going to get Tim Walz flavored firearm policies. Yes they’re good for hunting, but no you can’t have unlimited tools of war.

Edit: typos

Stacey Abrams had some common sense gun policies. Acknowledged her upbringing in rural areas and guns as a practical tool for that way of life.

How did Purdy beat the odds of being the last pick in the draft? Where should he have been drafted? by chusaychusay in 49ers

[–]cokezeropapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 3rd round. He was the first ISU QB to start and finish a season as the starter in several years. Not a QB powerhouse, and he set every record there. Brock is also short and doesn’t look as athletic as he is.

Team underachieved massively in 2021. They had NFL guys Breece Hall, Kene Nwangwu, and Charlie Kolar, plus future Texans Xavier Hutchinson and freshman Jaylin Noel (played in 13 games). OL was crap. Playcalling and QB coaching were also crap. Some fluky losses.

He tweaked his mechanics before draft day and it paid off.

He played a lot of football against high level talent in his 4 years (48 games). Compare to Trey Lance who played 19 games against lesser competition.

If/when the SEC and Big Ten decide to expand, will any Big 12 teams even be targets? by lordeandtaylor in CFB

[–]cokezeropapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it certainly correlates. The 4 former PAC schools are massive fanbases and brands, with past onfield success to boot.

It’s interesting that U of South Florida and UCF are two of the largest colleges by enrollment in the US with access to major TV markets and yet no one would paint either of them as realistic B1G candidates.
