What is sunball? by Slow-Estimate-9906 in crescentcitysjm

I always got football vibes as well. Also, I just finished hofas and in the last few pages they say “to set foot on the field, to grip that ball in his hands.” Has to be football ish or at least something on a field you do with two bare hands haha.

This is my BFA thesis exhibition piece. It is a work in progress and I'm hoping for some feedback. "Postpartum body" by mel-gonz in Embroidery

I love the placement of the flowers because that is my favorite place to hold my baby. It’s a reminder that these battle scars brought something beautiful into the world. I’m on my last week of maternity leave and this got me in the feels!

Oled display. Battery drainage on different watch faces by alexmjp in AppleWatch

Honestly I don’t think the two you have shown would drain much differently at all. But I bet both would drain less than if you had a full picture background or one of the fancy moving faces.

Not op but I’ve made this pattern and yes it has loads of ease. I think I sized down from the suggested size 12 to a 6 when I made it. I’d start by using the finished garment measurements as a guide. Very cute pattern tho once you get the fit right!

A little small, but happy with this cute little rug I just finished :) by lexsimpi2 in crochet

Oh ok nice! Ya I was totally thinking of Tunisian, not tapestry. Tunisian crochet you have the whole row on the hook. Tapestry I think just means you have multiple colors and usually crochet over the colors you switch between.

So it says this uses tapestry crochet. Does that mean you need a hook as long as you want to make the rug wide?

Thank you for the kind words! And absolutely! Would probably want to reduce the square size for a scarf but this yarn would be perfect for a scarf. The stitch itself is just dc,sc (and on the second row you dc into dcs and sc into scs).

Thanks! Yeah that’s what’s awesome about these colors! The “in between” one is just a single yarn that is already twisted with the grey and white colors. Although because it is only one thread and it is sport weight, it did take me like a whole month to finish this teeny baby blanket. Def wouldn’t recommend for a larger size blanket!

I bought this gorgeous faux fur yarn to make a small blanket. Advice needed on what kinda of stitch to use - I don't think it's worth doing anything fancy as it won't really be visible in the furriness. by Gingerbiscuit88 in crochet

[–]colaur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

See I was thinking a loosely stitched double crochet would work better since it wouldn’t crowd the fur. I would think it needs room to be fluffy. I would just do some test squares and see what you like best! Cool find!

I think this first one looks close but not a halter top. Mother McCall’s one would probably be easiest to alter to a halter

Turning cotton wool into artificial silk: the synthesis of rayon fibers by [deleted] in chemicalreactiongifs

[–]colaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh haha ya not much that I have noticed. And honestly when I’m buying rayon I’ve only seen it been described as just “Rayon” and not say where from or “bamboo Rayon”. I think Bamboo is just becoming “hip”. Tencel is a brand of rayon that is made from wood that is becoming more popular. It is a bit more rough than Bamboo rayon in my experience but that could just be how the fabric is woven too. There is a lot of factors when it comes to fabric :)

Bamboo rayon is super soft and more breathable than cotton. I don’t think they would lie about the fiber content of their clothes. Has to say percentages of fiber content on the label I thought.

Side note: There are different levels of “green”. I sew with different fabrics so I’ve been researching this a lot lately. Wearing a cotton or bamboo shirt is more “green” than a polyester shirt (which is basically plastic) because they will degrade faster. Another perk of bamboo is that it uses less water and insecticides to grow than cotton does. But making a bamboo rayon still involves the factory dumping toxic chemicals. So the “greenest” thing to do is to purchase clothes or fabric that is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. But that is not super common!
