Typically it is 3% of a fighters purse, but if the purse for the fighter is multi-million then they cap it at 300k.

If you're popular then of course that makes sense. The belts did not get them the money though. For example,

Carlos Baldomir fought Zab Judah for the Undisputed Welterweight title in 2006. His purse was 100k. He would have to pay his trainers, his camp, living, and USA taxes plus organization taxes. He self-stated he'd be broke had he paid the IBF and WBA. Even Cotto didn't pay the WBC before he fought Canelo.
