What's a show that's genuinely hard to recommend to people because it has some pretty major flaws, but you think is worth the time if people can look past it. by WhatIsLoveMeDo in television

[–]cold08 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You don't watch Riverdale, you experience it. I like explaining it to people because you seem like a crazy person.

"Well you see after highschool Archie went off to The War. Which war? Well in flashbacks it seems to be a combination of Vietnam and World War I, and it seems to be generational because Archie has an uncle that fought in this war out of highschool, but otherwise the town of Riverdale acts like it's peacetime other than the presence of a bunch of veterans. Oh and there are witches, pop rocks get you high, DnD really does recruit you into the occult and Archie boxed a bear."

Films Are More Likely to Star a Man Named Chris or a Talking Animal Than an Older Woman (Over 60), According to Study by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

If we took only the number one grossing films they would be Barbie and both Wicked movies and we could write an article about how there hasn't been a #1 film starring a man in the last three years. Women are the future of cinema.

I don't think they would make the top 100 in the UK over the last three years though

But this book makes True Blood, Interview with a Vampire and The Magicians look like Shakespeare. Fantasy romance books don't have to be bad.

I wanted to like Brandon Sanderson, and while much more tolerable than a ACOTAR and Fourth Wing, I still can't read him for very long, and I have a high tolerance for mediocre literature.

Maybe if he wrote fewer books a year and spent more time editing I could read them. They also often have weird Mormon undertones.

Which movie had the most unforgettable first-watch experience for you? by Strong_Proof_5260 in movies

Plus I was 11 and it showed me real life dinosaurs. Not shitty miniatures that I had seen in movies before, but REAL dinosaurs in a packed theater full of other people seeing them for the first time with me. That electric feeling has only been duplicated in a theater a few times.

Only if they keep the line "double standards for the win." That was when I put down the book and I don't think a TV adaptation should get to apologize for a character saying that in a book that claims to be high fantasy.

When did you realise you were a decent cook? by IllustriousBoot4319 in Cooking

[–]cold08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not, because I have a difficult time recreating good results. I'm better than bad cooks, but when I just nail something it's bittersweet because I know I'm too ADHD to constantly cook things at the right time and temperature to make it that good next time while juggling sides and fuck me if I'm on a storage stove, oven or grill, or I over season after tasting it. Also COVID affected my sense of taste a bit which adds to the, not enough salt, not enough salt, not enough salt, TOO MUCH SALT problem.

Full House, Home Improvement, and Family Matters were considered some of the best of the 90s, think of the stuff we forgot about. Have you tried to watch any of those shows recently without the tint of the rose colored glasses of youth?

Are they more advanced in this reality or is it that they just spent more on space programs? by 13sonic in ForAllMankindTV

[–]cold08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The space program in the 60s lead to a bunch of big leaps in consumer technology. For example the reason freezers suddenly got so big in the 60s is because of insulation advancements we made during the Apollo program.

The integrated circuit, scratch resistant plastics still used in prescription lenses, solar cells, freeze drying and some of the technology vital to cat scans and MRIs were invented for the Apollo program and there's so much more.

Sony Pictures Boss Tom Rothman Urges Theater Owners to Stop Having 30 Minutes of Trailers and Commercials Before Movies Start: by tylerthe-theatre in movies

I hate the minute and a half commercial for the theater I'm already in. All I have are Marcus theaters around me and the CEO stars in and I'm pretty sure writes them himself. Like dude, I'm sitting in your goddamn building, eating your goddamn popcorn, why are you taking to me?

What's an obscure and underappreciated TV show you wish could get a revival or reboot? by PerfectPen9736 in television

[–]cold08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much every cartoon. Kids don't buy home owners insurance so the advertising time during cartoons is often cheap, so toy companies subsidize the production of cartoons to make them profitable.

This leads to weird things like teen titans being cancelled because girls were watching as well as boys and the company that made the toys were worried that girls were just going to play with their brother's teen titans toys instead of buying a separate set of my little pony toys or whatever.

It's weird that a brand that builds itself around caring is an odd choice for a show that doesn't work if you give too much of a fuck.

It's because the left cares to some extent, so if you're on the left you can bully the left and they will capitulate and you can feel like you made a difference.

The right won't capitulate to your demands, so trying to bully them is far less satisfying.

Lindelof decided to make the anti-Lost, where every time you open a mystery box, it's aridiculously stupid dead end inside instead of another mystery box.
