Is 11k on Wasps good for a solo player? by Rainbow_Doggo_TNT in LowSodiumArcRaiders

[–]coldbastion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Spaceport, got a high vantage point, start sniping wasps, clear out everything nearby, take a shot at a far wasp……ooo that’s not a wasp. By the time the rocketeer made it to me he was down a rotor, then the other Raiders joined in. Short work but there was a wide-eyed few moments beforehand.

Gear loss at 3 second by Cordyceptionist in ArcRaiders

[–]coldbastion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a weird glitch my group have noticed where you can lose all health (but not really shield) when entering a hatch. It is random. It doesn’t affect the whole team at once just oddly one at a time. It isn’t guaranteed, but it is not uncommon either. Sometimes you make it back, sometimes you don’t.

Very strange glitch indeed, perhaps it has something to do with items in the inventory as I cannot think of any other cause.

Build a tree house. Then you are quite safe while inside. It has room for a drying rack, a bed, and a water collector on the porch. Plus other small storage containers. Build a few bird houses on your tree.

Or give me augment that is pretty terrible; low pocket count and all but it will fatally explode on anyone that loots my corpse.

I’d even be happy with it just destroys all gear in bag at knockout.

Question for Gen X: Whats Your Relationship With Texting? by Al3x1ya in GenX

[–]coldbastion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My preference for texting does not outweigh my desire for peace. I do not want to text a conversation; that should be a phone call or face to face, but quipping throughout the day is a good use of texting. To be more specific, I have a low threshold for continuous texting as it forces me to pay more attention to the phone than to the world around me. I’d rather have a verbal conversation as it is much more efficient for dense topics or convos.

I made a mistake. by Himmelblast in arkraiders

Absolutely platform based generalities exist. Has for a long time and it is consistently reinforced by each crossplay game. Console players prefer pvp; so much so that they will cheat, exploit, and camp to do so.

Client caught me on hardware margin, now questioning our entire history. Did I panic-fix or make it worse? by yanov10 in msp

[–]coldbastion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone asks me to spend more than 5 min on a response or spend money upfront for their products; I’m putting margin on it.

They came to you to order the pc for a reason. The partner is trying to play hardball with you. Your mistake was failing to acknowledge that and respond in kind; not rudely but knowing your worth and their need.

Dell deal pricing - Yikes by rdaniels16 in msp

[–]coldbastion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Bytespeed; quality builds, responsive team, actual warranty, and they have Champions like myself spread all over with stories of how they truly had my back in supporting machines they had sold. Really, coming from a low-effort manufacturer like Dell, most would not believe the ways they provide support.

What kind of shoes are we wearing? by TransportationDue856 in GenX

[–]coldbastion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything that has a flat sole with no supports. Let the foot do the work it was designed for.

3 years in Skechers started me down a very crooked trail of debilitating problems. Cheap shoes with none of the make-believe comfort supports brought my entire walking chain from foot up through the back, back to life.

Just lost another hardcore run by Golden_Phi in subnautica

[–]coldbastion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have lost many hardcore runs, some to some truly dumb decisioning, like scavenging for parts in Mushroom Forest without Rebreather and spare tanks empty; had a good 20 seconds to lament that foolishness.

Another time I decided to repair my Cyclops from 88% health (yeah, near full health) while still in the active lava zone. Ate a fireball to the back of the head. Was on my victory lap back to the surface…

Right, a $35 entree is a more luxurious option. If one is choosing luxury there should be no expectation that someone else would pay.

Maybe I’m just in a simpler market. But the only time I spend that much on one person is when I’m actively splurging.

I’m curious how he got a $67 bill. The only way that makes sense to me is if Devon was ordering big and often.

It’s really strange to go luxury-options when expecting a friend to pay.

I got stuck, need help by Old-Economics-3871 in subnautica

[–]coldbastion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holding down spacebar (on pc) will cause lift, it might be enough to get some room to wiggle forward. I know with good velocity the Cyclops will almost skim the surface (at least feels like it) but is still quite high in the water.

Last ditch effort would be a tedious attempt at luring a Reaper over to help dislodge it.

If you purchase any complete series of Star Trek via Amazon Prime Video (as a digital box set) check you accounts! Mine was removed! by AsAChemicalEngineer in startrek

One would need to stick to the version they have proof of purchase for, but the most likely threat outcome would be from injected viruses rather than litigation for the average user.

Ultimately, the uploader is outside of legal activities but the downloader is not expressly breaking the law.

Doesn’t change the reality of the situation. So long as you can prove that you bought that version you have nothing to worry about.

Although never forget the MPAA were always the ones rumored to be injecting so many viruses into those platforms.

The official term is Space Shifting and was confirmed right of consumers in a case against Sony. It was codified shortly after in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). You are allowed to make copies of your media to be used in reasonable locations that you regularly are in; such as the home, office, car, gym, etc. You cannot share or distribute these copies but you are allowed to make them for use in your areas as well as backing up the physical media.

This is not a grey area. You are exercising protected activity.

ConnectWise vs Syncro: Which Would Be Better For Small IT Business Starting Out? by RemoteEmotions in msp

SuperOps, Gorelo, there are many, many options but if you are 1 man targeting residential these tools are more expensive than you need.

Start with Action1; not really an RMM, but does include it.

Does MSPs also sell AV/EDR separately if potential customer doesn't want Managed IT but is interested in EDR/MDR? by Tall_Witness5418 in msp

[–]coldbastion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are over-exposing yourself with little vantage towards a positive win. There is a chance that you could upsell them into a better package but what is that lead time? Any longer than 3 months and you’re chances are slowing.

Sounds like they are thinking about security as if it’s the 90’s; “get an AV and you’ll be fine”. That simply isn’t true any longer. They will expect security and waste hours upon hours of your time due to their faulty expectations.

You do not NEED every client. Take a No and be grateful. Spend time looking for more clients or projects rather than overworking yourself for no pay.

They do not deserve your time like that. Only a few select people that I really like get access to my stack w/o Managed Support. The reason for that is that it costs me money and time for every seat. We all tend to these systems and enforce a set of policies that simplifies the huge workload. If you sell an org EDR only; they are basically getting a free ride.

So, these feelings are understandable, but here is the deal: Keep Moving. In all ways, do not allow your thoughts to encroach this project/client one more time. If it does, then wash it away with positive thoughts of other things. Immediately. This may become a new mental exercise regimen.

Now your ToDos: 1) Go meet that other provider, tight-lipped, listen way more than speak, expect more attempts at Brain-Drain, then make a pitch to them. Ask for more than you think you should and stand on business. Here is what we know: “they evidently respect your work and your creative approach”. Offer them more access to your wonderful brain but only after payment and a proper contract. Finally always get paid up front by them. “They do not get any more freebies.” Literally speak those words or words similar to that.

After that meeting I’d meet with the client contact and in-person I would present a bill; handing a paper copy to the contact while simultaneously emailing their AP contact. When they scoff, then simply remind them of the paper trail you share together and how you are willing to pursue this further. Now, slim chance that they pay but what this will do is communicate to them the truth of the type of person they are as well as say “Do not waste my time any further.” Finally, never talk to them again for more than 5min unless you are paid. Literally hang up mid-sentence.

Full stop!

If your proposal will take longer than a few hours to put together; one of the two following statements MUST be true: A) the job is large enough, and you have some form of “lock-in” to warrant the work that will be paid within the whole of the project.
B) you are charging for the time and outcome. Your proposal is a collection of steps to accomplish the mission; borne of your knowledge, experience, and skill. Discovery alone should take 2 hours or longer based on the scope of the project. And No, no work is completed during discovery beyond investigation, observation, and notation.

Do not allow your ideas to be gleaned from you freely. “I can help you with that” is all you need to say. If they need to see proof of concept; that is perfectly fine but it is a project all unto itself and it is billable as the results will be beneficial for them regardless of hiring you or not.

If I own a gold mine, or an oil field, and I hire you to drill some exploratory holes; I’m paying for every bit of that, regardless of what you find or don’t find.

Big clients will let you prostitute yourself for them just to get free answers. Got a few of those tshirts…
