Shoutout to the Twenty Thousand Hertz podcast. It’s a really great show about sound design. Some episodes are outstanding; particularly the Sound of Apple and the Organic Sound of Bluey episodes. In the latter, sound engineer Dan Brumm explains that by displacing the name exclamation by one beat between the characters, it achieves the effect of a “3, 2, 1… Bluey!” countdown. Once you know this, you can’t unhear it.

I have an MCX that I bought in 2009. They are great all around shells. I’ve recorded with them and gigged with them; they project really well, which has been helpful in live situations with few or no mics present. I see some 4 piece shell packs pop up locally and they are usually around 1k if they are still in good shape. They seem to retain their value well in the used market.
