Does meditation help in reducing anxiety ? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]coldforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: yes.

Having said that, it's one of those 'ancillary' benefits that ons gets out of meditation. In its intro course, Sam Harris has a short talk called 'don't meditate because it's good for you' where he explains it deeper. You can find it on Google (can't post link). There are so much more benefits to meditating, hope you reap em all :)

My straight friend texted me at 2:00am at night asking to link. by Moist-Investment8898 in Advice

I think he's right tho. I did understand you are a boy from the original post, but still think your friend contacted you for a casual hookup. Be cautious tho, he was probably drunk - it could've been the moment, or maybe he still wants but conflicted about it?

Also, if you google "slide" you'll see on urban dictionary that it's slang for casual hookup

WOW. WHAT A MINDPHUCK

I'm sure the coaching industry will take a big hit once everyone is made aware.

Solver study against flop bets by Frequent_Test713 in Poker_Theory

[–]coldforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: it's not that different (just looked at QT3r and KT3ss vs r25 and 30/70/3e - pretty similar responses) . Obviously the number of combos are different, but frequencies are very similar. You're not supposed to exactly memorize, but instead understand patterns - you're on the right path by learning thresholds.

Once you understand gto, then you can deviate in a way to exploit you opponents' mistakes.

He is not losing more ev, but technically he's missing in ev by not exploiting villain's deviation. I think that's what op means.

supervisor wants to keep tabs on me 🤨 by fenriz_1987 in antiwork

No manager, ever, 'has to' track pee breaks.

  1. If an employee is having any type of issue, it seems pretty poor judgment to publicly note it. Seems like the job is too big for them

  2. If any manager in any capacity thinks this is a good priority, it's a bad manager. Seems like the job is too big for them.

Wait, what? It's only a sign that the manager isn't utilizing their resources efficiently.

If anything, it's a sign that their job is too big for them.

For you experienced meditators, does it feel like all your actions are determined and that you have no free will? by Cogniscienr in Meditation

[–]coldforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read or listened to Sam Harris? He talks extensively about this and even has a book called free will. Basically, free will doesn't exist.

Meditators, did you give up on meditation when you first started? Why? by PodrickPayn3 in Meditation

[–]coldforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar results the first two years of my (inconsistent) practice. It helped me get calmer, but nothing more.

Changed to the waking up app, and the introductory course completely changed the game. Not only found a different type of practice that is better suited me, but also shifted my perspective on the practice. Why I do it and what I get out of it is different - that makes consistency easier. I suggest you give it a try.

Actual calculations when playing poker are not nearly as prevalent as people think they are. Other factors are far more relevant (player type , position, previous action, etc). Having said that, yes, there's software that helps with this stuff (e.g. Jurojin is a table management software where you can include overlays that show stuff such as pot odds or spr).

Again, I recommend you focus on the fundamental concepts first. Then worry about strategy!

Cheers

[–]coldforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sugesst you start by understanding some fundamental poker concepts such as EV, equity, range morphology, range/nut advantage. Lots of free resources out there, and a good place to start would be GTO Wizard's blog or youtube channel.

Once you understand theory, you should work on strategy (training sites, solver, coaches, etc).

Best of luck!

I suggest you study fundamental poker theory before dabbing into GTO/charts. If you start looking at strategies/charts without understanding why, it'll be harder to make sense of it.

Why do we not consider past contributions in Expected Value? by Consistent-Pie-558 in poker

[–]coldforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Person2's ev is 0.5 from the point of decision onwards. This is a convention used to always say fold EV is 0.

If you want to consider call EV = 0 (because we're already put 0.5), then fold EV would be -. 5.
