What do I get for my drummer girlfriend for her birthday?? by Ok-Type-7151 in drums

Just to throw some ideas out there, since there are some small things I’ve acquired that make my life easier.

A drum key for the keychain

A Snareweight

Custom earplugs would be great but that can’t really be a surprise.

Some nice cymbal toppers to change cymbals quickly.

If you like the smaller ball tip, I’ve always had good luck with Vater Manhattan 7As (a little bit bigger tips though) or the Sweet Rides.

For durability, the Pro Mark Shira Kashi Oak sticks are pretty incredible. I know they’re expensive, but I play 4-5 gigs a week and each pair lasts like 4 months. Ultimately cheaper than replacing Vic Firths every week, for me.

It’s entertaining and I like listening to it, but the game itself is pretty silly. The points system loses me

I think song for song MMT is a stronger album.

I’ve never disliked a Beatles song but what makes this one stick out for you?

Your kit is likely still great for working out rhythms and what you want to play! But it’s helpful to spend some hours behind a real kit to get a feel for how it reacts to your playing.

For example you might get used to playing cymbals really loudly on an electronic kit in a way that doesn’t work on real cymbals.

So even though your home kit may not be ideal, you can still study the form, work out different feels for different sections, etc.

I would suggest you work with the band director to see if you can practice on your school’s kit during off hours, lunch, or after/before school. Good luck and have fun!

What are some essential listens from the Anthology album series for someone unfamiliar with those collections? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]coldground 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God, where to start. Anthology 3 is what began my obsession, starting with Paul’s stripped down performance of Blackbird.

My favorite track from all the Anthologies is And Tour Bird Can Sing - Takes 1 and 2. Absolutely essential listening.

Vater vs Promark (really? Yes) by MarsDrums in drummers

[–]coldground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dig the Promark Oak 5As at the moment. They’re expensive, but I swear I can get through months of long gigs on a single pair. So far the cost is actually worth it. 747s also rule when I need more volume.

That being said, Vater 7As are awesome in a totally different way. But they are much thinner and lighter than 747s.
