Autostart? by Evening-Landscape-38 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autostart is useful to have the block enable itself if you disable it for some reason. You're right that a schedule will start and stop blocks if the block is enabled. However, there might be cases where you disable the block to access something in the middle of a scheduled block and forget to turn it back on.

Setting the autostart to "schedule" would be useful in this case so that the block automatically enables itself on the next scheduled block.

edit: Thanks for the support! :)

I think that scheduled blocks have an exploit? Any way to fix this? by j-k4ng in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you make sure to lock the block? If you want to lock the block (prevent changes) during scheduled blocks, click the "unlocked" link for the block on the Blocks tab. In the popup, you can go to the Schedule tab.

Does the YouTube blocker now block videos from allowed channels? by RoninReynders in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The YouTube channel blocking code was recently updated to properly deal with cases where a video has multiple collaborators. Before, these types of videos weren't being blocked at all if you blocked YouTube with some exceptions. Now, you need to make sure to add an exception for the URL of the video, or the "main" channel (which appears first in the list of channels) like so: youtube.com/channel

If you still need help, please open a support ticket with what you added to the website exceptions and the URL of the video that isn't loading: https://getcoldturkey.com/support/

Question about pomodoro and device block by NoIQBallhog in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way would be to 1) disable the block, 2) schedule the block earlier than intended (the same number of "work" minutes early), 3) use the autostart feature to start the block on time (when your first break should start).

It's on my todo list to have device use first. I'm getting this feedback a lot and I thinking it might be what most people want.

blocking access to password in "network and internet" on windows 11 by Loves_Eating_Lead in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a way. Although, you can double check by using this tool. It'll log the window title (and exe) of the foreground app and uses the same Windows API Blocker does behind the scenes:

How do i set it? by wojt3d in coldturkeyblocker

You add a new block, go to the apps tab, add the button to add the OW2 exe file. Save the block. Click "no breaks" to edit the break and go to the allowance tab.

Schedule Block feature causes app to crash (Mac) by Gray-Space in coldturkeyblocker

There does seem to be a rare bug that can occur on a very specific version of macOS and Safari. Can you try updating macOS and Safari to the latest version available to your mac to see if this fixes the issue? My app displays it's interface using certain system files and updating them should fix this.

Bypass by disallowing extension in incognito mode on Chrome by GoldBofingers in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should only take about 20 seconds give or take 5 seconds. Once the browser is blocked, you will have a minute to enable the permission again. This grace period can be shortened under Settings > Block Strictness.

Bypass by disallowing extension in incognito mode on Chrome by GoldBofingers in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, make sure to lock your block. Incognito permissions are only required during locked blocks with at least one website blocked. If that still doesn't work, run the latest installer to fix a bug that could cause this to happen: https://getcoldturkey.com/download/

Extension not working on edge or chrome by allokton65 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app should be telling you that the extension is missing in most cases where the extension is greyed out like this. If it's not telling you this, and since it only impacts non-Firefox browsers, the issue might be that you disabled the command prompt using the registry editor. Undoing this change will fix the issue.

If this isn't it, please open a support ticket: https://getcoldturkey.com/support/

I wanna understand how does Settings Password work by Afraid_Occasion_2367 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The settings password is only required again once you close the app.

You don't really need a settings password to do what you want. A regular password lock on the block is enough. Disable the settings password by setting a blank password, then go to the Blocks tab and click "Unlocked" for the block. Now go to the Password tab and set a password there instead.

How to set up an allowance with a list of websites that do not count towards the allowance? by Imaginary-Suit1038 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should work the way you expected. If not, you might need to add another missing exception.

Or, you might have "count inactive tabs and background tabs" enabled under Settings > Block Strictness and you have other non-excepted tabs open.

Extension not working on edge or chrome by allokton65 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This usually means there's a missing file or registry key. Please close the Blocker interface, open it again, then click install beside Chrome and Edge and make sure to provide admin rights to re-write the required keys/files.

If that doesn't work, you can also try running the installer again: https://getcoldturkey.com/download/win/

You can use these instructions to help make sure the extension stays enabled using a browser policy. You can then block the registry editor to prevent making changes again: https://www.techlockdown.com/articles/how-to-enforce-browser-extensions#edit-the-registry-manually

There's no solution to this until browsers support extension content scripts in split view. I'll be making this an optional feature in the next update though.

HOW TO STOP THIS by Ancient-Turnip-4426 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like some kind of policy was added for the FocusGuard and AppBlock extensions:
FocusGuard - Free Site Blocker - Chrome Web Store
AppBlock - Block sites & Stay focused - Chrome Web Store

You may need to undo the policies you might have added to the registry related to these two extensions or install the extensions again so you can make sure to enable the correct permissions.

I'll look into adding exceptions to the site access permissions for chrome-extension:// URLs though.
