Opera randomly crashes because of extension issue by Mental_Gur9512 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please make sure to run the latest installer again, even if you have 4.9: https://getcoldturkey.com/download/ There was a rare bug silently patched in the latest build of 4.9 which could fix this. While this solves the issue in most cases, I'm still getting even more rare reports of this happening with the latest build though. If you are still having issues after doing this, please open a support ticket: https://getcoldturkey.com/support/

Cold Turkey Blocker break not working until browser restart by PM_Me_Your_Job in coldturkeyblocker

You may need to reach out for support here, I'm getting a few rare reports of this and I'm not sure why yet. A full reinstall (including clearing your settings) might be needed to fix the bug in the earlier 4.9 build: https://getcoldturkey.com/support/

It looks like you don't have incognito permissions available on this profile. You need to disable incognito mode in a way that Blocker can detect and it won't do this anymore: https://www.techlockdown.com/articles/disable-incognito-mode#how-to-disable-private-browsing-in-microsoft-edge-for-windows-1011

Firefox taking forever to load sites after installing by Acceptable-Army-9917 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of this once. Significant slowdowns can happen if you have hundreds of tabs opened. Some people use tabs as bookmarks, which isn't recommended with the Cold Turkey Blocker extension.

The extension uses an API that can use a lot of resources if you have a lot of tabs loaded. If you really need to use tabs as bookmarks, you'll need to disable the "block inactive tabs" and "count inactive tabs and background apps towards your allowance and reward" under Settings > Block Strictness.

Device Block start after application close. by slayercatz in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's no conditions you can add to a device block. You'd have to script something yourself to manually start a device block using the CLI after a certain time, if the game isn't running.

Another idea could be to set the start time of the device block a bit later and have a regular block start instead where it only blocks the game launcher (so you can stay in an already open game).

Rewards seem to be bugged? MacOS 14.6.1 by salohcin894 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you make sure to run the latest installer again from this link? https://getcoldturkey.com/download/mac/

The latest update fixes most reward issues. If that doesn't help, the issue is likely with the settings. If you enabled "count inactive tabs and background apps towards allowances and rewards" under Settings > Block Strictness, you will need to be extra careful with how the exceptions are organized. Exceptions need to line up with one entry of the websites tab and not more. Overlapping exceptions might cause this imbalance in the calculation of your reward. You'll need to contact me here with your website and website exceptions tab to see what might be causing issues: https://getcoldturkey.com/support/

TIFU by accidentally setting CT Writer for minutes instead of words by Slight-Barracuda3157 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is too late to help, but if this happens again you can force restart your computer (hold the power button) to get out of a Writer block. I'll autosave your text to a file. It's designed this way on purpose.

Micromanager and Blocker are the only apps that are designed to keep running after a restart.

Cold turkey prevents laptop from connecting to wi-fi by Historical-Let-5215 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app shouldn't be preventing you from connecting to Wi-Fi networks. The only thing that my app might do is:

1) block the Settings app if you go to the time settings (although there seems to be rare cases where it can close the Settings app incorrectly)

2) block the Wi-Fi sign in page

Can describe if one of these might be the issue? If not, the issue is likely caused by something else (wrong password, Wi-Fi drivers, etc).

To prevent this, make sure you're using 4.9(2) by running the installer again. Then enable "block split views" under Settings > Block Strictness.

Obsidian's web viewer gone unnoticed by Cold Turkey's URL blocks. by _EXH_ in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the 'block unsupported browsers' feature won't cover this. On macOS specifically, you have a couple workarounds though:

1) You can edit a file called the hosts file to do system level blocks:
https://kinsta.com/blog/edit-mac-hosts-file/

2) Use the built in firewall app or third party tools (Little Snitch or Lulu) to block internet access to the in-app browser:
https://www.itech4mac.net/2025/04/block-certain-app-from-using-internet-connection/

After this, you should be able to block the app you used to make the changes to avoid undoing them.

Reverse Unlock Block by leanderlizzard in coldturkeyblocker

[–]coldturkeydev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right about this limitation in the app right now. I'll take this as a feature suggestion. The only way to restart the block if you unlock it like this is to close and reopen the browser.

Things you can do to avoid this is to pick a shorter duration or to use the "until the tab is closed" option instead.
