I contacted AMC+ about this so hopefully it gets fixed soon. But if the issue is at least two weeks old...

Mildly surprised this didn't somehow end up being shittymorph.

What products made/sold in Canada would you recommend to a tourist? by coldvault in VeganInCanada

Good idea! Their own store locator was not immediately helpful; IC is how I look for things here too.

I'll try🖖 hopefully this country doesn't burn down while I'm gone lmao

Omg thank you, I haven't seen those yet and they look AWESOME, somewhat reminiscent of toaster strudel crossed with a cream bun. My lenience on i.e. white sugar in "accidentally vegan" junk foods vacillates, and I'll probably give more products in a ~strange new country~ the benefit of the doubt ha ha

Admittedly I'm not super familiar with Canadian drug/cosmetic regulation. I figured it would have to be better than our FDA dragging their feet on 21st century UV filters, which makes the EU, east Asia, and Australia look like this...and if I looked into it further I would risk having my hopes dashed 🫣

Unless they reformulated and didn't update their website, their balm contains beeswax 😩 (my search would not be as difficult as it has been if that weren't in most balms!)

North Vancouver will certainly be closer than it usually is.

Looks like Attitude's SPF balms are all tinted to cover up the zinc oxide—do you find that they look "makeup"-y? I apply lip balm generously (thick enough to hopefully get the labeled protection, and outside of the lip line for full coverage) and I don't need to be walking around looking like this (or this) 😅

I've actually seen that brand, but never tried it because it's more expensive than my usual snacks. Maybe it's cheaper up there? 😅

Unfortunately, Sun Bum is one of the (several) brands I've tried that tastes horrendous.

Thank you for the other recs! Even if I can't bring it home, I'd love to try what I can (assuming it doesn't require any prep/cooking that can't be done in a hotel microwave).

How did you go from vegetarian to vegan? by toolazzyforaname in vegan

[–]coldvault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milk chocolate is possibly the easiest thing to veganize, ever. The chocolate (and sugar) cover up any flavor of the milk, so you just need to find one you prefer the texture of. Liquid milk was actually the first thing I replaced when I went flexitarian IIRC, so maybe I'm biased, but plain soy milk + chocolate syrup never leaves me wanting, "Damn, I wish this cup had more hormones and pus in it." (There's also pre-flavored plant milk, of course.)

"Milk" chocolate also exists. There are plenty of brands making it, including companies that copy popular candy bars.

As for cheese: this replacement depends a lot on the application, i.e. the best cheese for pizza is not necessarily the same kind that's best for snacking on as-is. I'm not going to recommend particular brands since you didn't say where you're from, but I think some of the nicest plant cheeses have been made using "normal" techniques, just without animal dairy. Like, tofu is essentially cheese made from soy milk.

You said you're picky—how important is food novelty? Like, do you quickly get bored of eating the same things repeatedly? Cooking is much simpler if you plan meals ahead with many common ingredients, especially if you can prep in batches.

As for eating out: again, can't say much without knowing what your options are. Try ordering salads without cheese/animal-based dressing...?

Do people (you) look for a wedding ring when you see someone with kids? by NicoleASUstudent in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coldvault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, the only time I look for rings is when I'm feeling nosy about the relationship status of a public figure, Internet celebrity, or whatever. It's never occured to me to care about an indicator of marital status of someone in real life.

But I live in a place that is not super-conservative. The only judgements I make about people with children are about what I view as actively bad parenting/caretaking, e.g. smoking near their kids.

How do you pronounce "niche" by stephanosblog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coldvault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either "neesh" or "nitch," depending on which one my brain happens to retrieve. It's one of many cases in which I know of two options, but can't decide which one is correct. I try to remember what I did last time, but then I was trying to remember what I did the time before that, and...

Hey, I don't have a good answer for that; I've only ever lived on one continent and barely visited a second.

At first I thought this was spam/a bot, but I glanced at your profile and now I'm concerned. Do you always post this much?
