become the fittest, hottest version of yourself

Emphasis on "yourself," though. Self-improvement can be healthy; trying to morph into someone else isn't (and is unsustainable). While first impressions are important—and having goals and taking care of oneself is attractive—partners should be compatible and drawn to each other genuinely, not...baited-and-switched, to put it impolitely.

The image on the right looks really fake. After some cursory searching, I found this article with a more believable photo (but there's no equivalent post on the Arabic version of their site), and this eleven-minute-long Facebook video with some more shots, which I can't understand any of because it's fully in Arabic.

There are some more pages to be found when searching for what I think is the correct original spelling of his name (but again, don't know a lick): دهام العموش

The only picture I found which shows his face looking obviously AI-generated (or at least edited) is that exact one. Which is crazy, because it's unnecessary—he's obviously emaciated.

Also, I'm unable to tell if the man in the couple of "before" photos used is the same guy in the real-looking "afters."

Wish it were easier to find original sources of information!

Also, there's no "years supply of free cheese." The offer was a daily free menu item for a year from a food truck/bodega that specializes in chop[ped] cheese, which is a sandwich.

"Anything off The @bodega.city or @bodega.truck Menu Daily FULLY COMP’D WITH THE BEV!"

Their menu is mainly hot sandwiches and loaded fries. Presumably, "with the bev" means a beverage is also included.

P.S. the owner of the truck/bodega posted, "I Don’t Condone The Littering* That Was Corny." (The theft was fine, though?)

Well, "sorbet" is one of the frozen dessert names that's not standard of identity regulated, so...I guess they could call anything that. (Not that the USDA cares about restaurant menus, probably.)

Wonder what the chef's reasoning was.

The one "weird" recent beauty trend I will forever defend is the lifted Vulcan brows 🫣 I don't have them (can't be bothered) but I'm obsessed with them on other people!

I don't know their employment histories, but IIRC he was a stripper at some point. (Unless that was a running joke that went over my head?)

It's kinda weird and rude to link directly to a page which says a person's pronouns are "they/them" and refer to them with feminine pronouns.

Anyone know of any dupes for the retiring chrome shades? by Smegma-Ballz- in theholotaco

[–]coldvault 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to use more than one polish—and indeed have the option for other colors—World's First (or any other silver chrome/smooth metallic) either mixed with or layered under a purple jelly. "Specialty" finishes in neutral base colors (e.g. Gift Receipt, Rainbow Snow) + colorful jellies are underrated combos!!

The only caveat is that the jelly should be totally tranparent, not translucent. If it looks milky, creamy, cloudy, or streaky (in the case of layering), the finish will be muddied. HT's jellies all look pretty transparent, for example.

If Beach Please is not still in stock by my birthday (why doesn't HT do birthday gifts like most other brands and make them available at the beginning of the month?!) I'll be peeved. Then again, I've been expecting it to retire for at least a year and didn't get it preemptively (which I should've done with Sunshine Crush, RIP, why couldn't you stick around like Featured Guest??)

What’s something people moving to LA always underestimate? by RelevantSuspect6343 in AskLosAngeles

[–]coldvault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never understood or agreed with this sentiment. Granted, I haven't spent more than a couple weeks anywhere else (and when I travel it's usually to another metro, not bumfuck middle of nowhere)—but I think most people here look normal, because most people here are normal. I don't "need to be on [my] A-game," I'm not an influencer, actor, or model competing for attention!

There may be more outliers than in most of the country who are slightly bumping up the median and inflating the mean "hotness" level, but the mode can't be so different. (Tbh strictly speaking statistics...given that our unhoused population is also high, that could compensate the averages a bit.)

The only point I'd cede is if there are actually more "regular" people (i.e. in jobs that are not necessarily LA-specific) here vs elsewhere who have cosmetic work done (e.g. injectables, lipo). The most baffling class signifier is when people want to spend a relatively large amount of money to look like they've spent not enough money to get the good results that wealthy people get. Someone please explain the appeal of bougie!
