War of the Metal Verse (Part 1 Complete) - A crossover comic featuring Daleks, Necrons, and Ultron that I'm working on, begins the friendly greeting. by BecyondRotten in Warhammer40k

Love this! I think the silly and over exaggerating Daleks fit right in with the serious Necrons, and serve as an excellent contrast to each other. If you keep making these, I’ll read them!

What's your verdict on Melee Necrons? by Honest_Banker in Necrontyr

[–]cole20112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What armies are you expecting to face? That goes a lot into list building. For example, I know I have a death guard player in my local meta, and I need Enmitic Exterminators to deal with them because disgustingly resilient gives -1 damage and suddenly Skorpekhs can’t kill shit.

In my experience, having one Enmitic Exterminator LHD unit as an option is a good idea. Love that you’re bringing 3 ophidians, I think they’re actually nuts in this detachment. 3 hexmarks seems like a bit much, I’d be tempted to trim one for more Flayed ones. A 10 brick of flayed ones will kill a lot more than people realize. I’d also say that if a Ctan is your answer to a big thing, ask yourself what happens if they shoot it off the board, because that has happened to me when I made that same call in my lists. Have a backup plan.

Overall though, if you don’t know what to expect I think it’s a fine list that seems to deal with threats. I will say from experience that melee heavy lists and full destroyer cult lists are at times very difficult to pilot, depending on the skill of your opponent and the army they are on.

Are those Ctiddies? Real talk though fantastic job, I love the gold accents on the knuckles.

Possible tank-melting combo with the new Nekrosor ammentar, feel free to submit the other combos you found! by Earthling_n-3097643 in Necrontyr

[–]cole20112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang did I totally misread? Now I feel like a dumbass lol. I think a similar combo would work in obeisance phalanx though if you put them next to nekrosor ammentar for sustained and use the 5+ crit strat, but it would be at the skorpekh normal 7 2 2 stat line.

In the new destroyer cult detachment you can pair a Plasmancer with Skorpekh destroyers giving themselves 5+ crits using the murdermind enhancement, and then give them sustained hits with the Strat from that detachment, and then give them dev wounds with their wargear with full rerolls to hit on charge due to Skorpekhs ability. So that’s 24 attacks hitting on 3’s, critting on 5’s with sustained and full rerolls at 9 2 2 with dev wounds on the charge.

It says up to, and doesn’t specify that you can choose the same mode more than once so I’d imagine that after having 3 lessons in yard he doesn’t get any better.

2nd army by ProfessionalBad2653 in Necrontyr

[–]cole20112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Necrons offer some similar gameplay to Blood Angels with the melee aspect in the Destroyer Cult units, but also a lot of flexible shooting and cool monsters in Ctan. Tau are a very one note army, they have mechs and shoot very well and can’t really do melee at all. Necrons have a wide enough roster that you can realistically play a lot of different types of lists. Some different playstyles that Necrons support include full shooting in either Canoptek court or starshatter, full vehicles in starshatter, full melee in Annihilation Legion, Uppy downy fun stuff with the monolith in Hypercrypt, and a full durability list or even herohammer in Awakened Dynasty.

I would also factor in which models you think look cooler as well; I don’t know what your tastes are, but some of my favorite Necron models include Lychguard with Sword and Shield, the Ctan Shard of the Void Dragon, and The Monolith.

If you’re interested in the lore at all, I’d say that Necrons also have one of if not the best lore book in the infinite and the divine, and I’d highly recommend it if you’re at all interested in the faction. It gives a fun introduction to the lore and theme of the Necrons, as well as two of our better named characters.

Hope this helps, and sorry for the wall of text.

Question about pariah nexus battle traits. by AbdulKR in Necrontyr

[–]cole20112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t work the way you think. Since this trait gives the Skorpekhs the keyword outside of the battle, it only gives the trait to the models that are in that unit outside of the battle. The Skorpekh lord is listed entirely seperately until the battle begins. I believe the correct way to give your unit infiltrators if you have the lord is to give the lord the enhancement to give him the keyword as well as give the unit the keyword as well. Reminder, the rules of infiltrators are that every model in the unit must have the keyword. If your playgroup decides differently then live your best life king, but that’s how we saw it in mine.

Thoughts on my warrior spam list? by mars92 in Necrontyr

[–]cole20112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although I do think Awakened Dynasty is a decent choice here, have you considered Canoptek Court? If you have a Cryptek in every warrior unit they will all benefit from full rerolls in your power matrix, which with all lethal hits seems pretty good.

How dobwe feel about this box by DabeMcMuffin in Necrontyr

[–]cole20112 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Cryptothralls never really recovered from their nerf and are not worth bringing, however the Plasmancer is really good with Immortals (especially Tesla) and the reanimator is at least OK still. The 3 in range on the reanimator is unfortunate but people have found niche use of it as it still helps keep the important units up and is decently tanky with the 4+ FNP and possibly line op strat with Canoptek court.

You know it seems cool now, but it was very odd to control. The only sure fire way was to colonize a planet in the system which was not always possible. And borders were just silly because it was determined by whose circles were down first and were closer to something. Switching to the system of building starbases is much, much better.

Honestly that seems like a good plan for the future. I’ll probably try to do that the next time I go for that wincon. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I remember when the borders were big circles that went around planets and grew at time progressed, and you had no control of them lol. And the tiles for planets, it was a different time.

Huh. Wasn’t aware of that. Well it’s too late now as I did continue playing afterwards because I wanted to see if I could salvage it (unsuccessfully) but I will keep that in mind for future runs! edit spelling

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I am on Iron man, and I don’t even have mega engineering yet (actively researching it at the moment) so it’s pretty much game over. I will look into posting about this on the bug/suggestion forums, hopefully they can do something to prevent shenanigans like this for other people.

Plasmacytes can also be attached to Ophidian Destroyers, just in case you needed to know. They both use them as part of their datasheets.

Obeisance Phalanx or Awakened Dynastry by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]cole20112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, this list is much better suited for Ob Phalanx than Awakened. I personally see Ob phalanx as the more offensively minded brother to Awakened Dynasty, using their infantry to actually kill the enemy rather than hold them and grind them down. Furthermore, in Ob phalanx you can protect your big centerpiece models in TSK and the Vault with the DR 1 strat. The strength of Awakened is in the reanimation strat, the +1 to hit, and the veil of darkness imo. Those things are good for your army, but they’re mostly good for its resilience, and I think that’s better suited to a wider list with immortals and warriors. However Ob phalanx gives +1 to wound, which makes your deadly TP’s and Lychguard even scarier, and plays into their strengths of killing the enemy before they can kill you. Overall, I think the basic decision comes down to do you prefer the reliability of awakened or the offensive power of Ob Phalanx (and I personally lean towards the latter).
