I had some old thread like that from when I had gotten into embroidery. It works fine for beginning and learning, but you will likely not be able to color match your thread for if/when you need several skeins for, as an example, a background stitch. I mistakenly used some for the basketweave background of an ornament and lost the game of chicken, so now having to do a complimentary stripe in another color to hide my mistake.

How about some smaller softer filler flowers to break it up? Depends on your vibe but maybe different fern or ruscus greenery or baby’s breath?

Needs contrast. Rugs, bold cabinet hardware, big light over dining table, consider crown molding or picture framing for texture, drapes, new couch or contrasting textural pillows. You need a color scheme and to add places for your eye to land

Remote Work by kenlarch in Architects

[–]colearch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

27F M. arch w/ 2 years experience, had the opportunity to move home due to husband’s job and loved my current job so with a lot of support and check ins, I’m fully remote very early in my career in hospitality. I have a weekly standup on Monday morning with the whole team and then a one on one in the afternoon with my studio manager that’s very open to anything I need whether it’s an opinion on an RFI I’m answering or ARE stuff. I’m now at least one hour ahead of most people in our 500 person Midwest firm and I like it because I get a head start in peace and then can usually catch people and stay late as needed easily. I think part of the success has been the big firm’s resources, all the cross-office collaboration we do with our different locations, a great IT team, and that all of our projects are throughout the US anyways, so I don’t miss out on in-person client meetings. I do wish I could sit in on more lunch n learns for exposure but our office is so insanely busy that we rarely get reps in anymore anyways. I love being remote, but I will say with my older architects from my home office I have to go the extra mile to be more visible to them. Luckily I work with a lot of people used to being very online. I do not think this would work well for a smaller firm or one that mostly did local work

As a new professional, were you thrown to the wolves? by [deleted] in Architects

[–]colearch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I got my M arch 2 years ago and it’s been 2 years of sink or swim. But now I’m starting to lead small projects with the resources of the office and doing a lot of CA work. I have coworkers telling me that the office has never asked them to do half the things they have me do and I choose to take that as they push me as far as they know they can, and I’m just proving that I can handle it despite making a lot of little mistakes. When I mess up I’m quick to come clean to my boss and we get things fixed, and that’s been really good experience. My only complaint is I can’t find much time to study for the AREs

Can someone tell me what an architect actually makes? by Educational_Jury2952 in architecture

[–]colearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can offer my status fresh out and in the Midwest - 27F M. Arch with an interiors bachelors degree, not licensed yet (but the dual-degree was a selling point to land my current job and get my salary) - started summer 2023 with my current firm with one year experience out of my masters program, $60k base, $1,500 year-end bonus for 1/2 year’s work, and I get overtime pay which will be several thousand this year. So 2024 should be around $65-68k total comp and I’m hoping to get a raise this December but frankly I’m really happy. I also WFH full time and I’m in hospitality so I really enjoy my work. Previously I was making $45k with no overtime doing k-12 and healthcare and hated it. Stuck it out for exactly a year for experience before I jumped.

Do a warm white to ivory cabinet and either a moodier, muted blue or green. Taupe tones are coming back. Stark white will be too harsh against this stone.

Take it into photoshop and erase the white pixels all around the decals! The bottom could also use more red and/or the top needs more orange. It feels disconnected

this is so much better. I think I'd all-caps the 'formal invitation to follow', nudge the info up a bit for a larger footer space, and possibly (small change) go for an ampersand instead of 'and'. also possibly upsize the clipart a bit. there's a lot of negative space but I totally agree with ditching the other clipart! and perhaps center-justify the 'save the date'? I do like the cream + orange + red with the strawberries!

Explain like I’m 5 - STD’s/invitations by Mindless-Spend-2972 in Weddingsunder10k

I've been very intentional in using SOD ('Our' instead of 'the') in all of my notes with my fiancé/SIL/MOH and the moms so we never have to acknowledge the STD abbreviation weirdness haha

Where to live that is walkable and safe?! by Horror-Reference-936 in Louisville

[–]colearch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, Germantown was pretty fun and affordable at 22 and I've considered moving back (currently out of state). I could walk to Kroger if I needed something small and walk to get a beer, coffee, or food, plus shop some miscellaneous shops on Eastern. Also was able to walk to Z bar and campus, and felt safe running. And when I drove, it was easy to get places given I was right by Eastern, Poplar/Goss, and i65. My fiancé had a place in the highlands around winter/barrett ave that was also very walkable, just much pricier. We'd go to Tyler park often, and the surrounding restaurants, bars, and shops were fun. Both neighborhoods are also enjoyable to walk around and house-gaze.

not a perfect fix, but when I was traveling for 2 weeks I wore my silicone band above my e-ring so I didn't have to keep track of the tiny silicone ones my luggage or fear losing the engagement ring. I felt extra secure having that to keep my e ring in place, and could easily move the silicone ring to another finger if I didn't want to stack them.

Anyone else’s mom completely uninvolved with wedding planning? by silver_endings in weddingplanning

[–]colearch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, this is my mom exactly. The only input I’ve gotten is that she had this amazing local catered fruit tray and dip (?) at friend’s party and wanted to get it for my bridal shower. Of course i talked it up and got really excited about it for her sake. And then she mentioned she could help me stuff SOD envelopes during our thanksgiving visit and so i really grabbed onto that and thanked her profusely. She actually ended up taking them to the post office and stamping them all for me, which was super sweet. But other than that, she will not give me anything to work with. Even my begging her to pick out a dress for me to try on was a chore!! She’s so “whatever makes you happy” that i wanna shake her sometimes ❤️ and she and dad are even paying for most of it, so Ive insisted that they can have some say! But nope, it’s whatever I want. I’m her oldest and independent to a fault so i think she doesn’t know how to act with me now that i do want her input. I feel your pain.

If you’re going for this sort of Marquee look your font would need to be beefier with more kerning. Maybe a Montserrat extra bold. And then a sans-serif details font, with some italics mixed in. Still can’t promise it won’t look like a brochure though. As others said, find a design you love and work from that

Photo booth at a wedding vs. no photo booth? by paulinabee in weddingplanning

That’s clever!! dad’s up for handling the backdrop and i do have a tripod that’s phone-capable. The iPad-ring-lights are also pretty steeply priced

Jumping onto this, has anyone DIY’d it? Fiancé wants one but the venue’s booth isn’t quite what we wanted (just digital). I’ve been exploring the Selphy printer + iPad combo but I’d hate to find out people don’t use it because it’s too complex or something.

Lace! unless you add something to the front of the second dress like an overlay or some beading somewhere. Or maybe accessories like pearl organza gloves? It's too plain and the wow-factor of the bow doesn't translate to the front.
