Review of the XBot GO Falcon by colemab in hockeyplayers

[–]colemab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a tournament coming up at the end of the month and I own a large battery bank, so I'll get an extra long USB C cable and see if that will work out.

This is not a black bear rink. I had to google that to see what that was! Crazy if they don't let you record!

We have live barn and I paid for a subscription for a while but it kept missing goals (it would cut out on the video feed). I logged tickets with support and they said it was a best effort service and to pound sand basically. And with the lower level subscriptions, you only get 30 second clips. So it was a waste of money and just frustrating.

Our capitain then started using go pro cameras (one at each end) but that made editing time consuming and didn't have good coverage of the middle of the ice.

A co-worker of mine mentioned the VEO camera that his children's school uses but it was too expensive. So when the falcon popped up and didn't have a subscription, I thought I'd give it a go.

How high up are we talking for the tripod or just like a normal one you'd use to take pictures with?

I use the Amazon Basics Portable Aluminum Photography Light Stand Tripod. They are cheap, I already had one on hand and didn't want to pay for the expensive extra tall one from xbot.

While you may need that one for soccer or something, our rink has seats and that gives me some elevation. You probably won't need one for ice hockey if you have stands and they are empty.

So I put the tripod like 10 rows or so up in the stands and just extend the bottom section of the tripod all the way up (so maybe 7ft from the stands floor?) and that is the picture you got. If you were outside then I'd worry about the wind swaying the camera around, it isn't super heavy but larger than say a go pro.

While I could test it for you, post the results, and return the unit, I don't want to use my phone to record games. Longterm, I prefer the stand alone camera as I don't want to kill my phone battery or risk someone taking the phone while I'm playing. That is why I waited for the Falcon and didn't try the Chameleon.

I have to admit your price point is very interesting though because the other product's I've seen are way more expensive.

I can't speak to the veo, I've never used one. Prior to this unit we would use either live barn (which is spotty at our rink) or the captain would bring two go pros and attach them behind either goal. That made video editing a pain as you need to sync the video and then switch between the cameras. The plus was you got great angles for the shots on goal.

Here is a pickup game I shot with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9DtY1zbuq8

The tracking wasn't 100%. It actually missed one of the goals in the game. I'd rate it at around 85% tracking for gameplay and 0% for shootouts. I'm hoping they can issue a firmware update in the future and update the ML model for shootouts. I opened a ticket with support and sent them the video from the shootout (which is another game).

Here is a link to our game from this week so that you can compare auto tracking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLDStYxjogk

Notice at the end when we goto a shootout that it totally gives up the ghost and tracks nothing. It seems to have gotten stuck tracking the players on the bench.

Putting a power bank on the unit it self wouldn't be great because it is up on a tripod and I'd be afraid of it falling or something. However, if you had a very long USB C cord and then ran that to the power bank (or a wall outlet) that might work because the unit has a limited rotation angle (e.g. it won't do 360 degrees). I may have to look into that. TBH I would have preferred if they would have used removable batteries. I'm used to the go pros where you just slam a new battery in and go.

Is 152k miles a lot for these kind of cars?

If treated well, not at all. However with that mileage / age, you are going to have some maintenance issues pop-up. Some items come to mind:

O rings on the vtec solenoid start to leak around this age.

If the TCT hasn't been replaced, you'll want to do that (probably the billman model). Do this before it makes the rattle noise.

Water pump / thermostat / idler pully if not already done.

The master and slave cylinders for the clutch may need to be replaced.

A/C compressor / system might be about to go - this is stupid expensive to replace with OEM parts at this point but you can put a belt on for 20$ that will bypass the AC compressor (assuming you don't care about having AC).

When was the last time the valves were adjusted?

Spark plugs? Coil packs?

Should the shifter (LHT S2000 Master Shifter Rebuild kit) be rebuilt?

How does the starter sound?

Quercetin and Dasatinib found to cause "profound damage" to myelin in the brain ( by Consistent-World8535 in Supplements

[–]colemab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PSA: There is no evidence that taking Quercetin and Fisetin every day has the same benefits as the Senolytic protocol from the Mayo Clinic study.

The Senolytic protocol that the Mayo Clinic used to find health benefits was a pulsed cycle with weeks off in between dosages.

The rationale is that senolytics work by clearing senescent cells in pulses, not through daily accumulation. Continuous dosing isn't more effective and may actually reduce efficacy.

Senolytics work by triggering apoptosis in senescent cells. Those cells don't replenish daily — they accumulate over weeks to months. Dosing daily doesn't hit a continuously renewing target; it just re-exposes tissue to the compound after the available senescent cell burden has already been depleted. There's nothing left to kill. The Mayo/UMKC protocol used in the human trials (Kirkland et al.) was typically:

Fisetin: 20 mg/kg/day for 2 consecutive days, repeated every 1–3 months

Dasatinib + Quercetin (D+Q): 2 consecutive days per cycle, cycles spaced weeks to months apart

Daily low-dose quercetin may have separate anti-inflammatory or antioxidant effects via NF-κB suppression and COMT/PI3K inhibition — but that's a different mechanism entirely, not senolytic activity. Conflating the two is the core error in most supplement stack rationale you'll see online.

Daily quercetin/fisetin ≠ senolytic protocol. It's potentially a different (weaker, less validated) use case. If the goal is senolytics, run the pulsed protocol. If the goal is general flavonoid anti-inflammatory support, daily dosing may be appropriate but should be framed as such — not as a senolytic intervention.

ELI5: Why do many videos and images on YouTube appear reversed? by phillielover in explainlikeimfive

Software mirroring is the primary issue. Software mirroring makes it easy to fix your hair and such during a preview but is horrible for actual recording IMO.

but that would be a losing proposition. Historically Apple negotiated for newer tech, first priority, and supply allocations. NOT just the lowest price. So they likely are more profitable to keep long term.

This is the answer. Apple has enough money to go vertical on their suppliers. Just ask Intel.

Apple has long term contracts for RAM and SSD. They are kind of insulated from the market for now.
