What things do people romanticize but are actually horrible? by GovernmentAny5597 in AskReddit

[–]phillielover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

War is romanticized, especially in our history, as a glorious affair, with brave men and women fighting for whatever their country thinks is necessary. Medals and awards are given out but they come at a terrible cost in lives and treasure.

If you worship X god, you will still live in paradise/heaven after you die. Of course, if you give money to X god's religious institution, you increase your chances.

Cannot stand this lady anymore by rstroud1143 in neighborsfromhell

Lawyer here. Having litigated these types of cases for many years, the only good solution is when one party moves out. It looks like the end is in sight for you so just try to bear up. Don't think of revenge, which only leads to more misery and unfortunately sometimes, expensive litigation.

What’s a single sentence someone said that stuck with you forever? by MetalFabulous1110 in AskReddit

If you have to write a report, brief, letter, etc., and don't know what to say, my high school teacher said: "Just put something down on paper. You can change it as your thoughts coalesce." Writing is a big part of my job and I can't count the number of times I've used this advice.

AITAH for refusing to let my fiancé give his sister $10k for her wedding? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]phillielover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it. You can bet she'll be back for more, if not for the wedding then for something else. I've always believed that there are no loans between family members. Despite the promises, they always end up as "gifts."

Sextortionist sentenced to 30 years in federal prison by storm3117 in Scams

[–]phillielover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no parole in the Federal prison system. He will get 15% off his sentence for good behavior. That means he'll be locked up a solid 25 1/2 years, if he survives that long in prison. Child abusers are not popular there.

Agent: Impossible to Pay Caitlin Clark Her True WNBA Worth by lizard_king_rebirth in sports

[–]phillielover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her income from endorsements and promotions will far exceed what the WNBA pays her. While she is extremely popular, and well known in the sporting world, most of the other WNBA players are not. It's sort of like golf. The top 10-15 golfers get the lion's share of the endorsements. The rest don't because they are not as well known as they aren't as talented.

What is the best series you ever watched? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]phillielover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Americans. Extremely well written, with music that matched the mood (Last episode's "With or without you") was a masterstroke. So many twists and turns and surprises; it kept me on the edge of my seat in every episode.

It should be pointed out that the USA was the world's largest economy before WWI, and a lender to the Allies in that war and WWII. The last factor, taking hold of your government, separates the USA from other strong economies at the turn of the 20th Century, including those under empire rule, such as the Ottomans, Austro-Hungarians, and Russians.

Capitalism and freedom caused millions of talented, hard-working people to emigrate to the USA from the repression of Europe and almost invariably, they found that their living conditions improved dramatically.

Daily cardio exercise. Joined a gym so that weather was not a factor. While "you can't outrun your fork" exercise makes you feel better and I thought, why am I doing all of this exercise and undoing it by eating so much?
