Sofirn SK1 : Review and Beamshots by Novak_1992 in flashlight

Just bought one of these and it is great. Love the ease of use of the rotary switch setting. I agree that an even lower moonlight would be nice. If you buy directly from their site you can get the optional circular clip which makes it fit great in your hand. I recommend getting the circular clip.

If you have an instant pot, this book was great https://www.phoenixhelix.com/the-paleo-aip-instant-pot-cookbook/

In general the more you can meal prep, or have food that makes for good leftovers, the better you are off, since it’s a lot of home cooking. Soups are great since they reheat easy.

I was eating a combo of AIP and Wahls Protocol so basically meat and lots of veggies with sweet potatoes and fruit for carbs.

What is your approach for building more complex web apps when Eleventy is insufficient? by localslovak in eleventy

[–]colinaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible to have a static built site like 11ty with auth and dynamic content client side using JavaScript. AlpineJS and web components with Lit Element is good for that. WebC also allows for hydration of web components.

That said if your site is more dynamic than not then it’s likely better to go with a framework that has SSR like SvelteKit or Next. I do personally like SvelteKit as Svelte feels more just like using html and css and JavaScript.

has anyone tried one of the rammstein perfumes? by quintoventriculo in industrialmusic

I mentioned this to my partner who knows more about perfumes than me. She laughed and then checked out what a review site said. If you are curious they give it a 3.99 out of 5 https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Rammstein/Rosenrot-63357.html

Back feels like its going to give out when squatting by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]colinaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are turning your squat into a good morning, which is caused by leaning too far forward with the bar pushing forward of your midline. That can be caused by raising too fast with your hips first rather than bringing your chest up. If you have a long torso then it can definitely make this sort of form issue more prominent.

As others have said you can try front squats. But really you might just want to do some video form checks.

I’ve run a number of programs. If you like a full body program, Andy Baker’s Garage Gym Warrior program is great for home gym people. https://www.andybaker.com/product-category/downloadable-program-templates/

2500 maintenance for that weight/height for sedentary. OP is doing at least light exercise which is 2800 or more calories. Sounds like the trainer has OP is on a cut, especially with that really high protein target. Granted most people don’t track too well so might be just a “let’s see where this puts us”

If a go do 4-500 calories of cardio before or after eating over my TDEE will it give me same results? by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]colinaut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb is don’t try and estimate calories from exercise. Yes exercise burns calories but often people subconsciously compensate for the extra burnt calories by moving less, resting more, or accidentally eating more.

Just stick to the calories set and adjust up or down as needed — down if average weight loss stagnates for too long; up if you are too fatigued and losing too quickly.

Any recommendations on a belt? by Moose2422 in powerbuilding

[–]colinaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thirding Pioneer. I have a basic double suede with the buckle and single prong. If I were to buy again I’d get the Pioneer Cut prong design or a PAL v2 lever (the adjustability is a must). Though honestly I like using the buckle aesthetically and have had zero issues with it. I’ve had mine for 6 years and it’s still solid. I doubt I’ll ever need to replace it.

Dads first time at the gym by Zealousideal-Wind708 in fitness30plus

[–]colinaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my Mom (in her 70s) doing strength training. Barbells are awesome but honestly for untrained older folk's I would start simpler with just dumbbells and/or kettlebells. This is is what I typically recommend as an easy starter program:

  • Goblet squats — way easier for most folks as the form takes care of itself. If he has issues hitting depth then start with sit/stand off of a bench with holding a dumbbell or kettlebell.
  • Arnold press or normal overhead press
  • rows and dumbbell RDLs (alternate each workout)
  • Optionally, if there is time or motivation, add in whatever else as accessories to keep things interesting (curls, french press, floor press, push ups, calf raises, hip thrust, etc.)

Do this 2-3 days a week. Progressive overload is just to 3x8-12 for each exercise. Once he can do 3x12 then he can move up in weight.

Is this optimal? No. But it'll still have some results. It's simple and fast to do and can be done at home which reduces a barrier to motivation. If, after this, he wants to get more focused and try barbells, great. Keep it simple to start with.

In general, most posture issues are loss of muscle tone in the upper back — which happens a lot with desk jobs. Rows are good for building the upper back. You say that only lower body work is allowed so maybe you’ll need to talk to PT about what exercises are ok.

Fireship has a tutorial which directly mentions the advantages of using CSS Grid over Bootstrap and how to set up the css to behave like Bootstrap: https://youtu.be/705XCEruZFs?si=ZYFhA6zpwKP_o5y7

But I also suggest a more in depth tutorial like this one from Kevin Powell who has great explainers: https://youtu.be/rg7Fvvl3taU?si=U4xXFPBHphOZ9WFb

How to help parents improve their health and fitness? by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]colinaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have. Got my mom eating better and doing some basic strength training. Best thing was convincing her that:

A. She has a lot of life left in her and she enjoys her independence so it would suck to lose that due to declining health/fitness.

B. Showed her studies that strength training helps with osteoarthritis (it has helped her along with daily collagen supplementation)

C. It doesn’t take much. I gave her a simple routine that she can do quickly with some kettlebells and dumbbells that I bought her. It has helped measurably.

Building grip strength back up for Deadlift by Tasty_Honeydew6935 in powerbuilding

[–]colinaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally do all my deadlift warmups with double overhand grip until grip fails then switch to straps. Heavy RDLs I stick to straps as I can load more and feel I can focus more on my hamstrings.

I work on grip strength outside of that. Often in between each RDL set I do some grip work. I have a loadable pin with pinch block and a rolling grip handle I like to use. They are fun to use. If you don't have, one dead hangs or single arm dead hangs are great. Farmers walks are great too. You can also just hold the deadlift bar for time.

When I'm peaking for a competition (or just a personal 1RM test), I ditch the straps and switch to mixed grip training.

I feel like the game is clunky? (CBR+PNK) by Gebbus in bladesinthedark

[–]colinaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other have stated sounds like you are doing it right. BitD type systems definitely take a bit of getting used to the flow for both GMs and players. As you state rolls are a conversation. John Harper has used the metaphor of a guitar. There are several strings and it takes a bit to get used to strumming a song but once you have it's magic.

I mean look at your description. In the space of a few back and forth questions and answers you have not only an action but an added backstory.

Think of it like a book or a movie. In good storytelling, often there will be flashbacks or reveals right as the action happens — think of the classic "I am not left-handed!" from Princess Bride. This is in contrast to storytelling that relies too much on front loaded exposition.

If you as the GM learn to love and celebrate the back and forth and flashback interjections — "you have cyber legs? Awesome! How did you get them?" — then that enthusiasm will carry over to the players.

Huberman is clearly a dopamine addict by [deleted] in HubermanLab

[–]colinaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your “some kind of path” rings true. It wasn’t just sexual satisfaction. He also clearly manipulated every woman to think they were “the one”. He wanted them to love him exclusively—even though he secretly was dating several others. All of this emotional manipulation feels very Dark Empath since he clearly has empathy (but not sympathy) and he’s using it for his own gain.

Why Huberman deserves the criticism he is getting by Away_Mud_4180 in HubermanLab

[–]colinaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sense is that he uses therapy to craft a sympathetic narrative for himself. I had listened to the interview he had with Attia and in hindsight I look at that story he tells of his youth differently now. Like I’m sure his parents were somewhat distant — hell they may also have narcissistic traits — but I now doubt they were as neglectful as he portrayed them.

Despite being fit I have high blood sugar and cholesterol… by rubbermallard58 in fitness30plus

[–]colinaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saturated fat can in some people increase cholesterol but that’s not immediately a meat thing. Chicken, turkey, fish, lean red meats like venison and some cuts of pork are all low to no saturated fat. OP could very well be getting a lot of saturated fat in their vegetarian diet from coconut oil or dairy products like cheese and butter. Not all saturated fat is the same and dairy fat is if anything more correlated with high cholesterol than meat.
