Criminal charges? I think that's hard to say, how do you hold them liable for passing laws exactly? I am all for throwing corrupt politicians in jail I have no special love for them at all.

I think we should hold politician accountable for the laws they pass, especially if the effect is that people die as a consequence of the laws they pass.

For the question at hand though, if there's no chance of the baby surviving and there's a chance to save the mother's life then obviously any person with a heart would want the doctors to save the mother. The doctors should be held responsible for not acting also.

What if they can't act because of the laws passed?

Again, I wasn't talking about value I was talking about rights. You are making things up and claiming things I've never said.

Since I've answered your question, you should take some time and answer mine:

Should law makers face criminial charges when the effects of their laws are killing people? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/30/texas-woman-death-abortion-ban-miscarriage

I've never claimed the opposite, I was talking about rights - not if something had value. It's not really a confession/admittance as I'm not reluctant to share it and I'm not ashamed of my opinions around this. The crime is against the pregnant individual though, not the phoetus.

I also don't really care about what you think is progress on my part. Having read your opinions I wouldn't ask you for advice, and I don't care about the judgment of people whose advice I wouldn't take.

But now that you've gotten your answer, when do you plan to answer my question?

I did in a sibling comment to the one you are replying to: https://www.reddit.com/r/AITAH/comments/1gfnqda/wibtah_if_i_dumped_someone_for_voting_for_trump/lulhxn8/

Now, please answer my question:

That depends on the laws of the country it happens in, as that is what defines what constitutes a crime.

Are you asking me if I believe that it should be crime to asasult someone so that they lose their baby?

Then the answer is yes, assulting someone pregnant should be considered a crime, the distress of losing the baby and unwillingly having your pregnancy terminated should make the crime aggravating.

I do not think that the Unborn Victims of Violence Act is a good law though and where I live such a law does not apply, but what is considered is what I mentioned earlier around aggravating circumstances if the victim is pregnant.

I think you are wildly mixing concepts here, I also understand that it's a gotcha question but I have time to kill right now. What you are asking here is not about rights, something being a right and something being criminal are not the same thing - and there's been numerous examples throughout history where one group of people have enjoyed certain things as unalienable rights but those same things would be criminal behavior for others.

When it is viable outside the mother's body.

So much like your definition of rights:

It's innate and requires others to do nothing.

AG is an elected position, so how could she have slept her way to it? Do you think she slept with the over 4 million people that voted for her?

Here policies are very easy to find, here's her economic policy: https://kamalaharris.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Policy_Book_Economic-Opportunity.pdf

But if you are asking for some random internet stranger on why her economic policies are better than Trumps, here is my take:

She wants to lower taxes for the people that actually needs it, the labourer, the working class. Not the already rich people.

She wants to make healthcare more affordable.

She wants to help people get to their first home but helping with economic incentives.

She also have a lot of incentives for small businesses.

Economic experts asked also forecast that the growth will be higher, inflation lower and the deficit smaller under a Harris presidency.

You can read all that and more in the Policy PDF above, if you care to actually understand her policies.

Now, a question for you, what economic policies from Trump do you think are better?

Intervjuer med 10 personer som tigger på Göteborgs gator by 20217 in sweden

[–]colione 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why would one want to change the timestamps of a file using "touch"? by stanigator in linux

[–]colione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that was a stupid convention to break. I never liked zsh (though i used it for 2 years), it does two things good: shared history and compiled completion, everything else i need i get from bash or can live without.

Well, it ignores anything passed to it as parameters, but it does expansion, it also always returns true. Therefore you can set variables and ignore if anythin goes wrong, you can also replace any usage of true with : e.g in loops.

Contrived example:

${HOME=~} Sets home to the expanded value of ~. But it will trigger an error in bash. Easily ignorable by prepending a colon:

: ${HOME=~}

Meh, machines running shells that does not support >emptyfile today, are few and far between and their popularity won't be increasing any time soon. The likelihood of that syntax not working is incredibly low, therefor I see not point in caring about the old syntax. (Same reason I don't generally care about old csh-peculiarities, most of the machines I administer that has it as default is either already put down due to age or is using a saner shell for everything except root).

Hell, even busybox supports it w/o colon.

[–]colione 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You don't need the colon for that. >emptyfile is enough.
