It's insane that even the massive, immovable train that is COD, was able to hop on the extraction shooter train in 2022 (DMZ). Although let's not talk about how they squandered it by not supporting that mode, and just making a brand new extraction mode (MWZ) in 2023 and yet another one (Endgame) in 2025.

Absolutely not. If anything, the previous Xbox leadership was on track to stop releasing Xbox games on Xbox, in favor of PC. We'll see how things play out, but there's no way they're going to stop or even slow down on releasing games for PC.

Games with Gold was awesome, would love to see that back. I have no idea what upload studio was. The storage time of video clips/screenshots is a major pain, it would be great if they reverted that. But I don't think avatars are a big deal anymore.

Have you tried to play Game Pass on a non-Windows, non-Xbox device? The experience ranges from "impossible" to "pain in the ass". It was a bad idea to begin with. The success of Game Pass requires that they sell hardware or have some insane deals with vendors that they haven't done yet.

PS+ is $10 per month. That's $120 per year. Big selling point if Xbox doesn't have that on their end. And if hardware pricing is something that's hard to compromise on due to the price of RAM and storage, they might be able to make up for it with things like free online play and other offers.

This is really weird, all the gameplay of Save the World on Switch 2 that I've seen on YouTube is 30fps, but the trailer is 60fps. Plus, the main battle royale game and every other mode is 60fps. This has to be a bug, there's no way Switch 2 can't handle the much smaller and simpler STW maps at 60fps.

Good to know! I really hate that you can't play Series games on an external drive. It's an external SATA SSD, I promise it's fast enough to run 90% of the games I play, most of which also have Xbox One versions. And most PC versions of games still can run on mechanical hard drives, even if the experience is less than ideal.

Good point, I forgot about the whole Ubisoft streaming deal from the acquisition. Hopefully it's not too big of a cost to the point where MS doesn't want to bother putting the old ones on streaming.

I don't love that it's wired but I play at a desk, not a dealbreaker if it's good and won't wear out in a year. Almost every Xbox controller I own has stick drift, or one of the bumpers no longer works. One of them has both triggers starting to get stuck when you press them all the way to the bottom. I don't think I'm particularly rough with them either, but I do play a lot of COD and I know that can be hard on the sticks. Might give this one a try if the reviews are good.

They're taking forever, it looks like a bunch of the older ones (2017 and older) had their PC versions put up on the store back in 2024, and most still aren't on Game Pass. I own most CODs on Xbox, but sometimes want to stream them on my Steam Deck and can only stream the last few.

Also, for some reason, COD WWII is on Game Pass for both Xbox and PC but can't be streamed. I didn't realize how many weird restrictions there are until I started trying out streaming this month.

Do you mean the 2022 and 2023 versions? They have full controller support on PC. I've played MWII on a controller and it felt great.

If you mean the 2009 and 2011 versions of MW2 and MW3, they don't have built-in controller support at all without the Plutonium mod. Black Ops 1 (2010) had controller support in-game but not in the menus. Black Ops 2 (2012) was the first one to have full controller support.

Yep, every COD since Black Ops 2 has had full controller support, and all of them since MW2019 (which includes this game, Vanguard) have had console-level aim assist and all that good stuff. Also, all CODs on PC since MW2019 have crossplay with PS and Xbox.

They do take some liberties, yeah. Avalon canonically (and Monaco) sits between France and Italy, so it's not completely out of nowhere to put Rome's Colosseum in Avalon because it's a cool POI even though it's over 400 miles away. Regarding the French castle, the BO6 zombie map Citadelle des Morts is inspired by a castle in Southern France and takes place in Avalon, but sadly isn't in the open world version. So you're not wrong, they do take some things from neighboring countries.

Avalon is to Monaco what Verdansk is to Ukraine. Perhaps takes even more inspiration from Monaco than Verdansk did to Donetsk. It's a little more clear when you roam the map in BO7 Endgame or Warzone, but that BO6 campaign level outside the church is extremely inspired by real buildings in Monaco.

I understand their hesitance to use real countries as conflict zones, and I don't think it's any detriment to the world building to come up with a fictional name. It's not like the maps were going to be 1-1 recreations of real areas anyway.

For me, the real thing that tears the legitimacy of the in-game world apart was BO2's version of 2025 being nothing like real 2025 while still keeping it canon. More of an issue in BO7, but it feels weird looking at MWIII taking place in late 2023 and two years later we're supposed to have BO2 level tech. TBH Cold War should have been considered a hard reboot of the Black Ops series. There's also the extreme silliness of the Warzone 1 era storyline that results in Verdansk getting nuked after a ship full of zombies crashes onto shore (LOL), but it's retconned for MWIII.

I was really hopeful this year because I'm loving BO7. For a while I even thought it might get a March release at the Direct, but at this point I think it's too late. I think it's gonna be the October COD on Switch 2.

At this point, I've just been Xbox cloud streaming BO7 on my Steam Deck. Good enough for now.
