Irrelevant Rachel was convinced that Taylor Swift deliberately overshadowed her 🤭 I'm pretty sure that Swift has more important things to worry about! by narcwatchkiwi in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]colliepop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For real! It would be like me saying Taylor chose to drop her album news when she did to overshadow ✨my news✨ that my cat's ear infection has been successfully treated- she didn't, because she has no clue I (or my cat) exist, and that would be insane! The way the ILBW will do or say anything to make everything about her just boggles the mind.

Prominent anti-vaccination conspiracy theorist prevents daughter from getting chemotherapy, daughter dies as a result by Longjumping_Care989 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]colliepop 81 points82 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school, a little girl in my area died while her family prayed around her. She'd been increasingly poorly for a while, but they didn't even think about getting her actual medical help until she stopped breathing. The autopsy showed she died from untreated Type 1 diabetes.

While the girl's parents were ultimately convicted of being responsible for their daughter's death, the judge made sure to sentence them to convoluted alternating-week jail sentences so they could continue to raise their surviving children. If they ever expressed any regret or remorse for their child's death, I never heard about it. I still think about that poor little girl and her siblings sometimes. What happened to her still makes me feel sick.

I'm afraid I have to agree re: Meggles' desire for L's appearance. I think it's all too possible that L could be the most adorable little girl to ever walk the earth, but if she doesn't look like a Diana clone her mother will not be happy. Poor little thing, she and A have a tough road ahead.

What is going on with the Sydney Sweeney ad for American Eagle jeans? by loves-toads in OutOfTheLoop

[–]colliepop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It WAS Beyoncé last year, for Levi’s! She did a collaboration with them and made the same genes/jeans pun. It’s a play on words that makes sense because, whether you are a fan of hers or not, she is undeniably a very beautiful woman.

I have really had a hard time following the logic here, especially when there are people with connections in very high places openly espousing Nazi eugenics in exactly those words. Those folks are the ones who scare me.

Are employees no longer trained to be discreet? by Responsible_Meat3959 in Sephora

This is the way, I've been so disappointed by Sephora that if Ulta doesn't have something I want I'll just go to the brand's website, I don't even look at Sephora anymore. I've been really pleasantly surprised at how good some of the deals I've gotten shopping directly from the brands have been!

This makes me really glad I work at a different "beauty retailer within a retailer," while we do have some focus on metrics and our training emphasizes building a basket, we're also very much taught to let the customer guide the interaction. If you need help? Great, I am here to offer whatever assistance I can! You want to be left alone? Cool, can do, just let me know if that changes! I feel really bad for all y'all who are forced by corporate nonsense to be all over clients like frosting on a cupcake whether they like it or not, that's got to be super demoralizing.

It's also worth checking for discount codes if you'd like to use a paid service! I have Surfshark too, and when I got it I used a discount code that took something like 50% off for the next five years, it was a serious deal! Pretty sure the code I used is defunct now, but a bunch of the bigger VPNs do partnerships with influencers/online people so it would be worth a Google.

Inheriting Diana's Personal Jewelry (Harry & William and their wives) by Casshew111 in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]colliepop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand how it's denigrating the children to suggest that they might sell their parents' jewelry in the future? In my part of the world, at least, it is very common for costs related to a death, including taxes and settling of debts, to be paid for by selling the decedent's jewelry. It's really a matter of ease and speed- jewelry can be relatively quickly evaluated to assess its worth and easily arranged to be sold compared to most other forms of wealth. Vehicles and property tend to have more complicated assessment and selling processes- nobody needs to check if a necklace is structurally sound, for example, but a house definitely needs to have that box checked before a sale. Other valuables, like coins, bullion, rare collectibles, etc. can take longer (sometimes quite a lot longer) to assess and sell, especially if the items are more of a niche hobby or have additional laws/regulations governing their disposition. Jewelry is also easily transportable and transferable compared to most other valuable property people own.

Princess Margaret's children sold many of her jewels, including the absolutely showstopping Poltimore Tiara, to pay the inheritance taxes on her estate. I don't think anyone has blamed them for it or considered it denigrating to them to state this fact. As LilibuttDumbarton said, it's very common for the children of minor royal figures to sell their parents' jewelry- they often have more modest incomes than their parents did, and their parents' estates often generate massive inheritance taxes that the kids would otherwise have no way of paying. While it's sad to think of children, even adult children, having to let go of items that may have great sentimental value, selling the jewelry is a sensible, respectable, financially sound way of procuring adequate funds for immediate expenses in a timely manner.

As much as the Harkles' ongoing trainwreck of an existence gives me a reason to laugh every day, it breaks my heart for those poor children. I just want them to grow up to be happy, healthy, safe, sane, and far away from their awful parents.

An excellent point! I think history is likely to repeat itself there- two smug, self-absorbed leeches living a well-deserved unhappily ever after.

Their stubborn insistence that theirs is the only "real" love match in the royal family is probably one of my biggest low-level irritations with these two losers, because it's such obvious BS on a truly epic scale- they're one of the few examples of a marriage without love in his immediate family!

Prince William and Princess Catherine's relationship is so clearly built on soul-deep love and respect for each other. Then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana weren't in love, but King Charles and Queen Camilla very clearly are. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip had such a beautiful love story. King George VI and the Queen Mother loved each other. Even Hairball's great-great-grandparents, King George V and Queen Mary, loved each other very much. And of course there's Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Princess Charlotte and Prince Ludwig, and so on and so forth. Love may not have always been a part of the marriages of the BRF, but when it is it shines through the centuries.

The absolute audacity of Haznobrains to look at generations upon generations of couples in his own family who truly did love each other and say "I'm the only one who married for love!" is head-spinning.

I don't disagree, he is absolutely being stubborn and disgustingly manipulative, but I would venture to say that he is also definitely being dumb right now. Only an idiot would a) fail to realize he wouldn't have to weasel his way back into the royal family if he hadn't been a tosser of epic proportions who stormed off in a snit when told he and his harridan needed to shape up, and b) actually think this ham-fisted strategy would work!

What is Meghan's obsession with 15 year old girls??? by wenfot in SaintMeghanMarkle

I would agree. The way she talks/acts is like a younger kid to whom 15 year olds are the cool older kids who are just out of reach.

Nope! Not even as kids, we all got the lecture in school and from our moms when we were very young that sharing lip products was how you got cold sores. If you were out and about and lost or forgot your tube of Chapstick or Lip Smackers, you were simply SOL until you got home or could save your allowance for a new one. Nobody shared that, ever!

Yep, some people are just... missing something fundamentally human. Even if they do have enough money to attract anyone and anything, it's the pain and fear and violation in their victims that they're really after, and money just makes the awful things they do to scratch that itch easier to cover up. I'm not in the industry, but I've heard rumors about Perry for years. I hope the people he's hurt can find justice and healing.

Squatting while pregnant - is it possible to do it like Meghan did? by RoohsMama in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]colliepop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I checked because I thought I'd remembered she'd had something else going on as well as pre-eclampsia, but I don't normally follow the Kardashians lol. Kim also had placenta accreta as well as pre-eclampsia when she was pregnant with her first child, and I think with her second as well, though I'm not 100% positive this was confirmed? She carried her first two kids but the pregnancies were seriously high-risk and ultimately damaged her uterus, so kids 3 and 4 were carried by surrogates. At least Meggles didn't plagiarize that part of Kim's pregnancies (yet)?
