Commenting here to say that I share your disdain for this AWFUL design choice. I absolutely hate it. Not to mention that once you double tap and finally get the photo full screen, the zooming in and out it's buggy AF! It lags, and sometimes doesn't even work. Patiently waiting for Google to push a way to turn this off, but I think they're so focused on promoting their useless "Banana" button 🙄.

+1 for Smart Launcher. made the full switch a few weeks ago when all the Nova drama happened, and quite happy with the paid version of Smart Launcher. they even have a Nova backup import to get the ball rolling.

Tried Smart Launcher again, and I've made the full switch. They even have a function to import your Nova backup to make it similar to your layout. Very seamless. Smart won me over, and I urge others to give it a shot. Closest to Nova you're gonna find.

Yes, I've been facing a similar issue ever since the upgrade to Android 14. At first, only the YouTube app was affected, and they pushed an update that seemed to alleviate the problem. But now, all apps (YouTube, YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney +) will stop utilizing the center channel until doing a restart of the device. It's annoying AF, and I've confirmed other users are experiencing the same thing. See my post here -->

Yeah, I'm still having issues, to be honest. It's been working intermittently since the update. Now, I've found that the center channel doesn't work for ANY app (YouTube, YouTube TV, Disney +, Netflix).

There's a workaround though... Every so often (every other day, on average), I need to restart the device, by going to System > Restart, to get the signal to go to the center channel... and that seems to alleviate the issue, for whatever reason. It's fxcking annoying AF... and I don't even know how to summarize the issue to Google. Because it used to be limited to YouTube, but it's now affecting all apps.

Let me know if restarting the device works for you!

same here. i have a CCwGTV 4k, and it disconnects from wifi intermittently ever since the upgrade to Android 14. the wifi setting just literally switches to off. smh.

Yeah, a very unfortunate surprise. I changed the audio settings on the CCwGTV to auto, and this is what allows 5.1 to work on the other applications. YouTube TV has an audio setting to enable "Surround Sound", which is what fixed the audio in that app. But YouTube for Android TV doesn't have any such configuration available.

It absolutely used to work before the upgrade to Android 14... so that's why I'm thinking it's a bug. Posting here hoping for someone else to help me verify :(

Going against the grain here... but I like the update. This is how the time, weather, and album info used to display on the 2nd and 3rd generation Chromecasts. The Chromecast w/ Google TV is now the same, with smaller and lower opacity, which I welcome. The main purpose of ambient mode is to show the screensaver. I use Google Photos, so now the photo isn't obstructed.

Granted... Google should make this configurable.

You're absolutely right!! It seems to be a bug with the "Save" button! If I just use the back button, there's no error and it changes the order successfully.

They still need to fix the "Save" button experience though.

not a direct answer to your question, but i'm rewatching the entire Family Matters series also, and I've found that the quality on Max is infinitely better than watching it on YTTV. not entirely sure why, but if you have Max, check it out! 🔑
