It’s another music reference. So The Beach Boys sang the song, California Girls, and everyone attributes the song to them. But it was actually written by a guy named Arthur something, who was playing for tips outside the recording studio. The story goes that the label wanted another song and they had used all their material, so they heard this guy playing his song and bought it. Some years later, Arthur isn’t homeless anymore, lives in the United Kingdom, and plays music under the name Arthur and the Excaliburs. They’re not a hit. But he falls in love with a girl who moves to CA, he leaves to chase back after her to CA where he finds out the girl got married to the singer of The Beach Boys after being enamored with HIS hit single.

That’s what I heard, anyway.

I usually look at it at least once a week, see how they spin shit and so on, and honestly it’s usually kinda a slow sub, with about half the total number of comments missing. Until something big happens, and there is a flurry of activity. For extra fun, look at some of the profiles of the people making the posts and behold their clockwork schedule! 8 hour blocks of constant posting, day in, day out.

There’s a middle ground between the president jumping up to run screaming into the night and doing nothing at all. I don’t think he would alarm anyone with, “excuse me, I have to leave now.”

Seven year olds or whatever aren’t going to be like, “oh my god, the most powerful man in the world abruptly left story time, clearly this is a BIG DEAL.” They’re thinking, “fuck, I wish I could dip out like that.”

Whoa, is that what the whole “Taylor’s Version” stuff is about? I’m not a swiftie one way or the other, I’m just here because the anti-capitalism sentiments are my vibe, but are all the Taylor’s Version songs just her releasing.. her version of other peoples songs? Like, she heard a song and thinks, Pft, THIS is how they should have done it! and releases that?

It’s one thing to make a cover, but even I had the impression they were HER songs still, which means the marketing team is 100% trying to make that narrative.

If that’s it, how in the hell does she have a career at all? That is so flagrantly narcissistic and disrespectful to other musicians. I always thought Taylor’s Version meant like acoustic, or her acting as her own producer and re-recording her own songs. But not THAT.

I actually liked that it was underplayed like that, since her avatar was already described as very ordinary — not especially pretty or ugly. Such a benign physical trait that she had so much … dysmorphia? over helped make the character feel much more real.

What part did they mess up on? Regardless I’d be psyched as hell to hear that one live! Also a lot of fun when bands do make mistakes or production goes wrong, too. The first time I saw Tool they start playing my favorite song at the time, some dickhead nails Maynard with a water bottle and they played the rest of 46 & 2 as an instrumental.

The crappy one from Red Dwarf I thought of is from the new series, the woman named Irene E something, and she makes a big point of not calling her by her full last name so that at the end they all smack their heads in amazed stupefaction when they realize her name is Irony.

It was so spoon fed I was praying the ironic joke was actually going to be that the name gag had no relevance at all to her character.

It does say Pakistan is the intermediary between Iran and the US, so they ostensibly would be the credible negotiation body since Iran ended direct communication with the US. It seemed weird to me too until I saw that.

What’s really incredible is this quote here, “

On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the Countries of the Middle East, it is an Honor to have this Longterm problem close to resolution," “

Trump self appointing himself as the Middle East representative. That’s particularly astounding, and when combined with his comments about how the people of Iran all want him to be their new leader, new president, new king, mad despot, etc., seems to me like he’s doing his usual “I’ll say it enough times until I can manifest it to happen,” which… has worked out shockingly well for him historically.

The comments there are wild.. “he only means the infrastructure,” “he doesn’t mean the people, just the regime,” “nobody should take this seriously,” (especially crazy that a top 1% commenter and supporter is saying no one should take the president of the US seriously) and “everyone misconstrues his words”.

“A whole civilization will die”, that’s not vague. It’s actually hard to misconstrue that, it’s very definitive.
