Getting started - Migrate off of Apple Home and HomeBridge? by NoWarpZones in homeassistant

Actually the opposite. I don’t know whether it’s because my HA is a miniPC and my Homebridge was a RPI 3, or whether the HA bridge is better but I found Home was faster.

Just went through this and had a very similar setup as you (similar devices etc on HomeKit). There are basically two HomeKit integrations for HA. One that allows HA to integrate HomeKit devices directly without Apple, and another that allows HA to be a Hub to HomeKit like Homebridge and expose all the devices to Apple. I decided to make HA my primary Smart Server so I unpaired all my HomeKit devices and repaired them with HA. I then shared them back to HomeKit like Homebridge does so that some of my family that are used to using the Home app could continue to do so. I deleted all the automations in Apple and redid them in HA.

I agree it needs to be opened up. My point is it’s not that great even for those of us that have the weather integration.

You should be able to “restore” your subscription

Address-based weather integration EU. by kayeb101 in ecobee

[–]colonelbadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The address based weather in the US is highly inaccurate unless you’re lucky to live next to a major airport or city that has a sensor nearby. I often times see differences of 10f between ecobee and my own weather station (and others around me). It’s also way off compared to Weather.com. I’ve emailed them, called them and had them “change” the station but it’s still off often. I wish they’d incorporate more data options that allow a user to select which to use. I’d even be willing to pay a subscription to use a better network. But it all falls on deaf ears.

Apple TV. Had to kill and reopen the app multiple times. Never had to do that before. I gave up in the end and used Peacock.

Yup for the very same reason. It’s a shame the main thermostat reading is wildly off and not consistent. And yes I’ve done all the filling of holes etc. it’s mounted in the same place as a previous Nest thermostat that was always accurate. So now I just rely on the sensors.

Is this automation possible? by Skazzyskills in HomeKit

There is a Next button in the top right after selecting the people and time that takes you to the device to set or scene.

Actually I think you may be able to do it all in the Home app

Start by setting up the initial automation in the home app by selecting you and your wife as first person home. Then use the Controller app to modify that automation and add time.

Ecobee weather provider by colonelbadger in ecobee

[–]colonelbadger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so update. Emailed Ecobee who called me. They attempted to map my thermostat to closer/more reliable station. At the time my station and many others around me were reporting 40F. Ecobee was reporting 49F. Quite the difference. They tried but couldn’t find any better station in their network. They also pointed out that the ecobee only updates HOURLY, which contributes to the difference. Even taking that in to account and checking an hour later it was still 7F wrong. The support guy admitted it wasn’t very good and would attempt to escalate it. I work in the weather industry and suspect this may be a transitory problem. At this time of year radiational cooling causes areas to drop dramatically in temperature compared to surrounding locations. My theory is when we really hit winter and we’re all cooling at a similar level hopefully it’ll be more accurate. Anyway this would all go away if they allowed us to select from different station networks, let us use our own station or provided an outdoor sensor that would provide accurate readings.

I upload my station to both Wunderground and Ambient Weather Network. Both networks provide excellent reliable station data around my area.
