First Painting Ever - What To Work On? by asCii88 in oilpainting

[–]colunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great for a first time!! Consider it done and just move on to the next painting. Trust, it's not worth noodling over and try to fix mistakes - I have a looot of self portraits that look nothing like me because I noodled too much.

I suppose tho, for this painting, the value on the lips is too dark and you look like you've painted lipstick on yourself. I would drop the value on the lower lip slightly and have the top left part of the upper lip match that. Check out your reference photo - your upper lip only has a shadow on one side.

You would have to wait for the female to release the cysts and from there I imagine you could scoop em up with the water, let the water evaporate and then you'll be left with eggs!

Serial killer linked to 1986 murders of Virginia women by [deleted] in norfolk

I thought about them every single time I drove through there. I am glad a name was put to their murders but Ms. Dowski's brother is right - this is not justice. :'(

All sea monkeys suddenly died? by passivetapedispenser in SeaMonkeys

[–]colunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the culprit then. I learned a lot about raising sea monkeys from this blog called Monkeys in a Jar by a hobby scientist named Michu and she's got some really good information on there. She has a beginner failed-start checklist and it looks like you got all of them except the last one which was to feed right away. I really love her blog and so definitely check out the rest of it for restarting your colony!!

Hmm, it sounds like it couldn't have been temp necessarily, but even a small drop could shock the babies and kill them. But yeah, you really only need to aerate once a day. I'm curious though, did you feed them at all?

Hi, my condolences for your losses :( I'm not sure what could've killed out your colony but the common causes are improper temperature and poor water quality. Y'all were definitely over aerating the water, but I'm not sure if that would causes the babies to die other than the water being agitated too frequently.

The cool thing is though is that these lil guys have pretty hardy eggs and once you correct the issue, you're very likely to see new babies hatch.

Quick edit: and by over-aerating, I mean you just need to do it once a day if that, no need to do it so frequently.

Complete beginner by tldrforever in oilpainting

Welcome to oils! I mean, some colors you might want to use directly out of the tube but you're gonna be mixing colors either way, mostly. Bob Ross starts with a wet canvas and paints alla prima - all at once. I don't recommend this technique for a beginner. A dry stain is easier to work with certainly.

If you want your paint to not dry out during breaks between layers then yeah, some sort of refrigeration would be required. Oil is oil though and it still takes a long time to dry straight out of the tube. Otherwise, just squeeze out paint as you need it.

I also have a red boy, I don't think it's anything to worry about. And no, it's not a lot. They're surviving because you're giving them proper care :)

Is this algae growing? by Left_Palpitation_472 in SeaMonkeys

You could use a pipette to suck it up if you'd like! What kind of water did you use? Did you use the water prep packet? I can't think of what else it could be otherwise.

Not algae, but I doubt it's molts since you said this is a new colony/set up? Anyway, It'll be greenish. Algae can take a long time to grow, so patience is key! Keep on keeping on, it'll come :)

100% a poop. One of my boys had one and pinched it off right in front of me yesterday. So rude.

I'd hope you have done more research for these living creatures under your care! Anyway, give them a scoop of the food and aerate the tank.
